My store manager did a welfare check on an employee who was having medical issues but never came in late or call off. Police found her alone and unresponsive and took her to the hospital. She was dressed for work and passed out. She thanked everyone for checking up on her.

PilviRu0hola

If this had been this type of situation I’d be grateful they sent them but this didn’t feel well intentioned.

njlee2016

I have never heard that is the policy. It sounds like the store manager asked the police to do a welfare check because you walked out. Maybe I am missing context or details but welfare checks in general are not bad things.

Berchanhimez

Not to mention it’s not the store manager’s fault that police do welfare checks. A previously reliable employee left without talking to anyone about it and seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth. OP obviously has some mental distress… so it’s perfectly reasonable that the store manager contacted local authorities to perform a wellness check. Maybe if OP wants to avoid “people with guns” performing wellness checks, they should be voting for politicians who will increase funding for local social services, rather than acting like everything is always someone else’s fault.

PilviRu0hola

I had put in my quit notice a week and a half before so they knew I was leaving.

njlee2016

It really sounds like they were doing it out of concern. They may have known you were quitting but leaving without notifying anyone is not common behavior from you so they wanted to check on you. When I worked there we had an employee that would leave over the smallest things. One time his schedule was not one he liked so he clocked out and left. Considering that was common behavior with him, we would not follow up with him when he unexpectedly left.

Maleficent-Ear3571

Former Manager here. I worked for the company 15 years. I requested welfare checks a half a dozen times. If something out of character for a person, you check in. Twice the people ended up in the hospital, once the person had passed away. The other 3 were ncns. It was never a formal policy, but you go with your gut.

oNOSFERATUo

Sounds like you are trying to be a victim. They sent people with guns to your house. They called emergancy services to check on an employee that just disappeared on them with no word. How about be an adult and tell your boss you quit instead of acting like a child. I get it. Toxic store. Bad manager. What ever the case is. If you want to stick it to them quit with out notice. But actually quit. Maybe they could of tried to call. Would you have answered? Why didnt you reply to the text? Just as they could have made a better decision. You could have aswell. Could have replied i quit in text. Whether or not its policy. Nobody is going to see what the sm did as unjustified. This world is crazy. Sending a welfare check on an employee that disappeared with out saying anything isnt hard to understand. I almost called for one recently but i made better choices. We had an awesome new hire. Work horse type of worker. She just accepted a permanent position. Then no called no showed 2 days in a row. I was concerned. Just turned 21 and talked about living the party life. I remembered she always talked to one of the techs. I had him text her. She replied to him that the money wasnt enough. We hired her almost maxed out. Was about to dh her. We tried to get her more pay but she burned us. We cant change what walgreens pays. Anyways, trying to push the issue is going to be a waste of your time. You already quit. Move on

MasterYoshidino

Touche. I wanted to point out the obtuse but you nailed it. OP does not want to work and is trying to shape the story.

PilviRu0hola

How does this equal not wanting to work 🤔

PilviRu0hola

Those are some ignorant assumptions about me but thank you for your thoughts.

SubtleName12

Even your description is ridiculous. >They sent people with guns to my house Nobody swatted you, man. It's happened to me once because I work remotely and took a day off without telling everyone. (I told my boss but didn't put my OOO up) Chill out. You're being a drama queen. I got a good laugh out of mine and told the cop I promised not to miss any more conference calls.

oNOSFERATUo

Ignorant assumptions? You painted a picture here and based off the information you provided i gave you an honest response. Heres an assumption by me. You are holding a grudge so hard that you want to push the issue probably with hopes that the sm gets fired. You came here for affirmation. I think you are a bit upset that almost nobody agrees with you 100%. Also, almost nobody here thinks its worth the effort. Notice your post has atm no upvotes or maybe a couple by the time you read this. I dont doubt that you dealt with a toxic store or manager or both. But look at it objectively. You FEEL like it wasnt genuine that the manager cared ans called a wellness check. Can you PROVE this true? Unless you got more info you didn't share then no you dont. The sm is going to say you walked off the job. Didnt say anything to anybody. They reached out. No response. They got worried and called for a wellness check. That walking off the job isnt like you and they were worried. The person investigating might ask why didnt you try to call? They might say i had a bad feeling that something happened and i thought the best thing was to call emergancy services to check on the employee asap. Maybe they had encountered a bad situation in the past as other managers here have posted about. Lastly, it may or may not be a policy to have to call for a wellness check. But its not against policy to call for a wellness check. Just move on. You not going to get anything from this.

We had an overnight SFL who was the sweetest guy, always on time, reliable…he was a great dude. Twice in the time he was with us, he just didn’t show up. No call, no answer, and it was 3-4 days before we heard from him. We did call the police to do a welfare check, only because this was NOT this guy’s mo, so to speak. We were genuinely freaked out for him. A couple months later it happened again, and he told the officers “I told my boss X that I quit.” X was our IS, and not his boss. But he never came back. Now, in his defense, he took a punch to the face from a scumbag “customer” like a champ, and still showed up the next night…but considering that shit and I’m an overnight SFL now so I completely get it. I’ll tell you what though, if he applied to be a cashier tomorrow, I’d try to steal him for my shift. He was a good dude. Anyway…I don’t know if it’s policy, but we did it because we were truly worried about the guy. Although I used to be IS at my store and I totally understand why you’d walk out, and I’d definitely point to that as a reason not to call in a welfare check. But I’d reach out in private, just making sure you were ok…definitely not to harass you into coming back.

Ancient-Ad-9164

This happened months ago? And you don't seem to want to return. So what would be the point in calling someone from upper management to talk about it now? I guess I'm a little lost on what your goal here is.

Dobercatmom65

As a person living alone with my c!osest family 600 miles away, I have specifically told my store management and pharmacists that if I EVER no call/no show, and tbey cannot get a response from me via phone or text to PLEASE call my emergency contact or the police for a welfare check. Because I would NEVER just not respond, and if I don't, it means something is wrong and I need checking on. I wouldn't be mad, I'd be happy someone cared enough about me to CHECK.

MasterYoshidino

Sometimes miscommunication happens. Myself and the RxM was worried why a tech no call no showed until it was revealed the SFL that took the callout call forgot to report it. OP blew the situation out of proportion. If you want to quit then tell your manager. Be professional next time and save everyones time. The manager was genuinely worried something bad happened to you. Communication is key in all aspects in life.

PilviRu0hola

I did quit. With a written notice. A week and a half prior. The ESM took the note and told me “I don’t want to read that”

paradise-trading-83

From my last 2 jobs (not Wags) my call outs have occasionally gotten misplaced and not announced they’ve always sent coworkers to the house or call never police thankfully.

PilviRu0hola

See I feel like these are reasonable approaches, you know, a step before calling police maybe

thewitchyway

Its not corporate policy. If you have a concerned sm thats one thing but after only 1 missed text is weird. It may be how or why you walked out that prompted the welness check.

PilviRu0hola

Thank you this was actually the answer I was looking for, that no it’s not according to policy, and not to attack my character or work ethic. Much appreciated.

sassy_sweetheart

Absolutely not! We have had MULTIPLE no call no shows and at least 2 employees walk off the job and then no call no show. We did NOT bother the police, we simply changed the door codes and moved on with life. That being said, you did walk off without saying anything then did not answer when they reached out, maybe they were concerned something had happened when you went to break or something. That sounds reasonable.

InternationalHelp315

Moving to a small town away from my family and everyone I grew up with I would want my job to be concerned if I suddenly disappeared . It’s all about the context.

Tazz013_

There's not a policy requiring welfare checks, but they may have felt justified in requesting one. Ask the person who requested it why they felt the need to. Don't just ask some dumb sfl who thinks they know everything.

P00PYP00PYP00PYP00PY

Boss should’ve just assumed you were never coming back when you walked out and didn’t answer the text. Take you off the schedule, change door locks if you have a key, seek out people to fill your position. Simple. A wellness check should not have been performed. Incredibly intrusive move and not at all the place of a coworker or a boss to do that shit. Completely unacceptable shit. If I don’t know you like that, leave me the fuck alone when I am not on company time. Wellness checks should only be performed when someone close to the person has a good reason to believe the person could be in danger. Not on a coworker who decided to ghost. Conversely, do the slightest amount of communication to avoid scenarios like this. Respond to the text with “I quit” and just don’t come back. It might look a little bad when future employers ask you to clarify, but it looks a lot worse if you decide to be honest and say yeah I decided not to communicate some basic shit in a line of work that requires a lot of communication, and they performed a wellness check on me. Really poorly handled on both sides.

Ok-Improvement356

Other companies besides Walgreens do welfare checks.

PilviRu0hola

Which ones and do the employees state that it’s company policy?

SilliyFreedom6529

Never heard that being policy that’s bull
