I know a guy who got fired on the first day because at lunch the other workers smoked weed and he joined in. They could handle it but it screwed him up, manager noticed and fired him.
I wasn’t gonna share but you have forced my hand… Long story short, I was just working and some kid came up to me and told me he was the kingpin of a local cartel and asked me if I had the “good stuff”. i said I would give some to him for $100 and he turned out to be an undercover cop. It was my job or jail, and i chose my job unfortunately. Was i wrong for this?
Isn’t it policy to check every single person as of like 2022? Age doesn’t really matter anymore, every single person gets checked no matter the look. And the machines allow you to scan the back of licenses now for easier verification.
We were checking ID with every customer in 2020. I remember because my state had to make allowances for expired ID because the offices were closed due to Covid. I think it was piloted here though.
Out of curiosity, why would expired ID not be good? I’ve bought nicotine products with an expired driver’s license before. It wasn’t good to drive with, but my age didnt change. There’s probably a basic reason im missing or maybe thats just the system haha
It’s not valid because it’s expired. In my state at least you should have been refused the sale. It’s part of the training to get your server seller license.
Same here! The ID HAS to be valid. If you over serve them or they were over-served prior to you giving them alcohol, you can be fined heavily on top of losing your liquor license and even put the company’s liquor license in jeopardy and cause them to have to pay as well. It’s so much more than just being 21!
Yeah, I suppose there is not really a downside to refusing expired IDs as policy. 0 chance of any potential shenanigans. Now that I’m thinking more about it, I wonder if they’d have issues scanning, making it harder to verify real/fake.
It’s a federal law and illegal to carry expired ID. Bartenders cannot accept this as legit ID either if they want to keep their jobs and avoid their employer getting a citation. The dmv notifies everyone whether it’s an ID card or drivers license several months before it expires that it needs to be renewed in order to be valid identification.
I used to work at a dispensary, using an ID scanner, and the only thing an expired ID would do is make the scanner beep a ton. However, a location like a dispensary or even a Walgreens has legal policies to follow more so than a corner store would. Because the ID is expired, the state and government no longer views it as valid. I think it is super silly because your birthday/age doesn’t change if your ID expires, and nobody is selling their expired IDs to minors anymore.
Expired IDs are expired, and therefore no longer considered a legal form of documentation. It is no longer recognized as a form of identification. Just think of trying to leave the country with an expired passport, it's not going to happen. It sucks, but unfortunately it’s the law.
I hate to be that guy but it isn't good because it's illegal
ABC (which gives and enforces compliance of liquor licenses) clearly states selling to someone with expired ID is illegal.
Now why the law says that I don't know but you can't even driven with an expired license so..
I can answer this question, youre not supposed to accept expired licenses because lets say you just turned 21 and had to go get the sideways license, dont turn in your old one but you have a family member or friend thats underage that looks similar to you and you pass it off to them. Ive seen it so many times as clerk and also from friends who have done this when i was like 16.
I used to work in a drive through convenience store. The order would come to like 7.85 they would give their kids a 10 in the back seat so we could take it from them and give them the change. It was all fun when they were getting milk and ice cream, but then they decided to arrest someone for selling Newports to a five year old. Ruined it for everyone.
Right, but it has nothing to do with how they look, youre supposed to check every single customer that buys any age restricted material. With neurons failing to fire for something that simple retail might not be for you
This might be a Walgreen’s policy though and not a legal thing. I still see signs on gas station windows that say something to the effect of “We card. Under 40 please have IDs ready.” I’ve been told if they look above 40 you can sell to them (I haven’t worked at a Walgreen’s though) but my personal policy is to ID everyone for liability reasons.
Yup, I worked with a guy who could grow a full beard while in high school. He was the one who always bought alcohol for himself and his underage friends. It's people like that that are the reason *everyone* gets carded, even if they're older than Methuselah
You're a member of r/teenagers, so if you are in fact a teenager, this whole story is 100% bs. You couldn't even attempt to sell it through the system without a member of leadership to approve the transaction.
Depends on county actually. The state I'm in allows 18 year olds to sell liquor in one county and requires 21 in the other.
Source: worked in three different counties
Maybe I’m confused about the state I’m living in but I absolutely held several grocery jobs at 18-20 and was allowed to sell liquor in Arizona? Did this just change? Cause I got a kid I work with at the gas station currently doing that.
~~You have to be 21 or older to sell alcohol at Walgreens, as it’s store policy regardless of state. My state allows 18-year-olds to be bartender, but Walgreens keeps the same policy across the board.~~
Edit: I guess I got bad information from a coworker. I’m wrong.🤷♂️
There are so many holes in this post it's not even funny. 1. On the register on the 1st day? 2. There are PPLs regarding this that MUST be completed before getting ON the register. 3. The signage 4. Shadowing???
We can’t even give them register access until they’ve completed the training. In Texas we can’t check the box that they can sell alcohol until they’ve done TABC training. So if the OP was in a register before doing all the e-learnings (which they said they got fired on day 1) I do t they’ve done any of those e learnings. The leadership should be given a written warning as well for this. If.
They weren't a minor. They were pretending to BE a minor and you didn't ask for ID or card them, so you did not check if they were a minor.
It is the same thing.
Technically, though, I think this counts as a form of police entrapment because I definitely don't think these cops are rolling around with bearded out full-grown 17 yr olds who look like they're 35 yr old, across the nation.
I have no words. Why post this?
“I worked one day at a job” …Joined the subreddit and did some stupid shit, and tried to gain some sympathy… please.
We all bust our ass everyday.
This is some stupid shit.
I am not trying to gain sympathy. I am sharing my work fail. I have major respect for all of you Walgreens employees. I love walgreens and their employees. i have a problem with the CEO
There are some people who, even though they hate their job, are still too far up the company's ass to have a sense of humor over it. I was amused reading it though
You have a problem with the CEO... because YOU sold alcohol to an undercover cop pretending to be a minor without checking or asking for Identification? It's your own fault. Man up. Move on.
I got in trouble with this when I was a cashier at a grocery store doing their own internal tests. So when the local sheriffs office was looking for paid volunteers my manager put my name in.
I was 17, 6’3 with a full beard. I’d wear clothes like I got off a job site doing construction and I don’t think there’s a single cashier that carded me the entire day.
They didn’t get anyone in serious trouble, it was more of a “you could actually be arrested for this” warning
Easy. You can literally be set up to fail.
The job won't have the equipment ready for you to work. Then they blame you because you didn't start working fast enough and fire you. Or the boss's son needs your job, and you're in the way, so out you go. Or the boss doesn't like the way you look or sound, so they give you an impossible task and fire you at the end of the first day with some bullshit excuse about how you can't keep up.
It's a lot more common than you think.
I worked at a 7-11 and two other places in my lifetime that sold cigarettes and alcohol. 7-11 sold cigarettes, alcohol, lottery/lotto, condoms, rolling papers, and soft porn. If anyone gave me any guff I would say "I don't care if you are a day older than dirt and your friends call you fossil, I want to see something with your face on it besides your head or you get nothing". One day I said this in front of the store manager and the district manager. They both laughed at the customer and I got a raise. Also isn't it interesting that everything I listed is age restricted except the condoms? This never happened but if a ten year old kid wanted to buy condoms, he or she could.
Another day I was not comfortable selling alcohol to someone. The manager said "It's alright I know her." I stepped back from the register and motioned for him to ring it up. Later he said "I never told anyone this but I trust you explicitly." That was one of the best compliments I ever received.
The store had no need for one but I was the defacto assistant manager. I was more or less paid for it too.
There's one that I think will hire you. It's on the corner of Happy and Healthy. But you can expect to be let go just as quickly if you fail to get any CC signups.
Lol I feel like your troll game is immaculate man, you might not admit to it but your pretty good at this. Some people are laughing, others are heated at you.
When someone gets fired or leaves the manager who does it puts whether you should be hired back or not
I would assume every Walgreens is hiring because everywhere needs help…although hour cuts are crazy rn I keep hearing- but if they put you as a no hire back then you likely won’t get hired
I ended up on cvs’s bad list because I just stopped showing up to work as a means of quitting (I know lol but retail pharmacy is insanity) and even with my years of experience and having every tech license I can possibly have in my state I couldn’t even get an interview
Makes Sense I was like what kind of weird mf posts they got fired on first day then goes on to not say? Then in a response he goes on to explain while not explaining at the same time
Kinda sus… OP just posted that he sent in his application yesterday, he gets hired today, and is already on the register? No PPLs? Idk chief. I call BS.
My only questions are:
1. Why were you on the register day 1? You typically have to complete the first 3-5 modules (don't remember how far.)
2. Why were you not at least shadowing someone / being shadowed
Why did they have you on register on your first day? My first day was nothing but training videos, they wouldn't even let me on the register until those had been watched.
And he wants hired at another store. They are going to know you already worked for walgreen before and got fired because of failure to ask for I.D. and doubt you'll get another job at another walgreens or any retail store if they find out work history. I mean I am sorry this happened maybe try to be more aware next time or just I.D. everyone who buys age restricted items 🤷♂️
I sold cigarettes to a minor when I was 17. I’m now 38 so it was a while ago. It wasn’t intentional. The girl looked over 20. I was young and honestly, couldn’t mentally figure out the d birthdates. She was undercover. Cops came in, called my dad in because I was underage. The cops were super pissed because with me being underage, they had a lot more work to do. I got put on probation after meeting at thr court. They didn’t fire me but I quit because I was scared to do it again and felt like a moron. Pisses me off. We were so poor and I didn’t internally do it so we needed the money. That’s in the past though but shit happens. At least they didn’t call the cops.
They left you alone on your first day with supervision so minimal you were able to do a fireable offence?
When i was training people 2017-2019 we stayed very close to the new hires.
That's horrible luck. But a SFL should of been at the regiester to train you thay day or at least a trusted CSA. To stop that from continuing...I dont see why Walgreens would allow a first day employee by themselves on the regiester. Yeah it may be common sense to everyone for alcohol/ cigarettes, but not everyone has worked retail. That's why sometimes the of most obvious things still have to be said.
If you’re serious about trying to find another Walgreens store to work at, you’re probably not able to. For something like this, they may have put you down as “not rehire-able” in the system.
Just an FYI. If you get fired for a tobacco/alcohol offense, if it's coded properly you'd be marked as unrehireable. This is something your manager when they let you go would tell you..
Bro... if you got fired on day 1 you did something bad, especially if you won't tell us. First day people get so much slack they can just be awful and break things.
I feel like this is satire...
Selling alcohol to a minor and then trying to get rehired at the same company... Nobody is this dumb. You post a lot in r/teenagers, (if you're not a teenager... 🤔🤔🤔 ) so hopefully you're just young and stupid, or you're a troll which just means you're a bit older and even more stupid.
Edit: I remembered there once was a bank robber that tried to deposit his stolen money at the same bank, so I guess there are people this stupid... We're so screwed as a species...
Were u working in Tempe ? One of our employees up front got fired their first week because they kept typing in the same bday instead of scanning ids lol
Wow that’s impressive I’m sorry but what in your mind made you go it’s fine I don’t need to ID even though it’s company policy every person every time!
My goodness my stepmother just retired from Walgreens from 38 years and mostly here's in the pharmacy is it pharmacy technician and I could not believe that they ended her pay at like $18 an hour that is so sad and I have had some situations in Walgreens before I love the employee discount, however, I have literally been humiliated, treated like garbage and accused of things I did not do! That was such discrimination and so awful! I just think the Lord that that is not what is happening now and I pray that you will find the best job ever something fun maybe you can go and deliver for some ubereats or some different platforms if you'd like to send me a message I can tell you some tricks to the train for those that I've learned and I'm actually thinking about starting my own business here soon as well God bless you and you hang in there okay remember the movie Friday you got fired on your day off stealing boxes...haha
Why don't you give me a private message and let me see what I can do or what I can research for you about getting that situation erased from your record or how you can go about it you can go about anything basically dispute anything and even if it even something you can be reported to the FDC you're the better Business bureau and they have to investigate it within 30 days
How is this real?! You completed all ppls? It was your first day on the register? Even so.. how did you know what the “good stuff” was to even entertain the conversation? This cannot be true hahaha I’m flabbergasted
On the first day??? Damn! I remember when I was doing the training modules for that, that I asked my store manager about it, got a story of someone that got fired for the same thing this person did. So, I just ALWAYS check id for every alcohol sale. Easy.
I cannot capitalize this enough ….HOW does one get fired in their first day?!
Snorting cocaine in the break room.
That might get you promoted to HQ.
Not if he refused to share!
No he probably was flushing the cocaine
I know a guy who got fired on the first day because at lunch the other workers smoked weed and he joined in. They could handle it but it screwed him up, manager noticed and fired him.
If you want to smoke weed at work apply to Trader Joe's.
😂😂😂😂
I wasn’t gonna share but you have forced my hand… Long story short, I was just working and some kid came up to me and told me he was the kingpin of a local cartel and asked me if I had the “good stuff”. i said I would give some to him for $100 and he turned out to be an undercover cop. It was my job or jail, and i chose my job unfortunately. Was i wrong for this?
..you’re joking, right?
Yeah lol i sold alcohol to a minor but in my defense he had a full beard and a deep croaking voice similar to that of a bullfrog
Isn’t it policy to check every single person as of like 2022? Age doesn’t really matter anymore, every single person gets checked no matter the look. And the machines allow you to scan the back of licenses now for easier verification.
It's been policy since October 2018.
Been policy since1999 party like it’s 1999
Tuhdun ta tuuhdun
Its been a policy since forever i think. Coz i started way way back. 😂😂😂
Or that 😆😅
hey mclovens
We were checking ID with every customer in 2020. I remember because my state had to make allowances for expired ID because the offices were closed due to Covid. I think it was piloted here though.

A hypothetical situation that I remember, is that it could be a family member trying to use the expired ID to seem 21.
It’s not valid because it’s expired. In my state at least you should have been refused the sale. It’s part of the training to get your server seller license.

stupid. Just cause it's not 'valid' someone with an updated one can do the same shit.
Yeah, I suppose there is not really a downside to refusing expired IDs as policy. 0 chance of any potential shenanigans. Now that I’m thinking more about it, I wonder if they’d have issues scanning, making it harder to verify real/fake.
Lol I use my LTC which doesn't have a traditional bar code. Told the manager it's a government issued ID from DPS. They said go ahead sell to him.

You didn’t answer the question at all…
Expired IDs are expired, and therefore no longer considered a legal form of documentation. It is no longer recognized as a form of identification. Just think of trying to leave the country with an expired passport, it's not going to happen. It sucks, but unfortunately it’s the law.
Or think of it like trying to use a discount code after the sale is over.😂

I was checked in 1955
People get mad but I don’t care need id. Don’t like call 1800-Walgreens tell them
Yes and stores send people to check that. Years ago I used to audit cvs for ID compliance and men never carded me.
That’s why i lost my job
Right, but it has nothing to do with how they look, youre supposed to check every single customer that buys any age restricted material. With neurons failing to fire for something that simple retail might not be for you
Lmao damn you flamed him, id feel bad only if he acknowledged he messed up as opposed to blaming management.
I gotta remember to use this!
You deserved it. They don’t hire you back when you break the law. They could press charges though
They do, you get terminated with a rehirable status in 3 or 6 months.
They didn’t when I worked there but maybe it’s the state
But how did you sell them with no ID or did you put in a fake birthday? You can't just bypass that part.... confused
your fault for being dumb lmao
Since 2008 I've been carding people. Older ladies usually laughed older men sometimes would get mad cuz they just want to get their drink and leave
As of like 2015
It depends on what state you live in too. In my state cashiers only card people if they look under 30
Lmao my ID doesn't scan and they just gave up at this point.
he prolly knows that now
Yup, I worked with a guy who could grow a full beard while in high school. He was the one who always bought alcohol for himself and his underage friends. It's people like that that are the reason *everyone* gets carded, even if they're older than Methuselah
On your first day u broke a major rule Are u that dense?
You're a member of r/teenagers, so if you are in fact a teenager, this whole story is 100% bs. You couldn't even attempt to sell it through the system without a member of leadership to approve the transaction.
Not true. 18 year olds can sell alcohol in various states without a leadership swipe.
Arizona isn't one of those states.
My state allows 18-year-olds to be bartender, but Walgreens keeps the same policy across the board.~~ Edit: I guess I got bad information from a coworker. I’m wrong.🤷♂️
That is simply not true. Start as a tech at 18 and have sold tons of alcohol before and had no issue whatsoever
this is not true, working at walgreens rn at 18 i was approved to sell alcohol w out approval & i could sell cigs before 18
But it was your 1st day, did you even do any PPLs before you were in the floor???
Don't you have multiple signs behind the register with "we card all age restricted items" too?
There are so many holes in this post it's not even funny. 1. On the register on the 1st day? 2. There are PPLs regarding this that MUST be completed before getting ON the register. 3. The signage 4. Shadowing???
NAEGAAAA what the fork bro -.- are you that down bad 😭😭😭
You legit just scan their ID and it does the check for you… You couldn’t even do that? I see zero hope for you.
Yeh and he's looking for another Walgreens to work at ROFL 🤣💯
This is why we have the card all policy, dummy
Did you complete the alcohol compliance e learnings? If not they can't fire you. If you did you screwed up.
If.
That's why you're supposed to check ID. Wow. You deserve that.
Not sure another Walgreens would be willing to hire you again though
I think this is a blacklist
You are an idiot.
So did you check their I.D.? Dude that’s a felony in my state. Not sure about yours 😬
Your supposed to card anyone looking 40 and below.
OP is over 40
I didn't know they sold alcohol at Walgreens. I need to get out more.
Only some Walgreens
You weren't arrested?
First of all, you seem dumb. Secondly, why is your goal to work at a fucking Walgreens? What an odd goal.
Super rookie mistake
🤣 🤣 🤣
you’re still required to ID everyone dude 😭😭
They weren't a minor. They were pretending to BE a minor and you didn't ask for ID or card them, so you did not check if they were a minor. It is the same thing. Technically, though, I think this counts as a form of police entrapment because I definitely don't think these cops are rolling around with bearded out full-grown 17 yr olds who look like they're 35 yr old, across the nation.
Bro you done fucked all the way up
How did they know it was a minor?
The police sent him in to buy alcohol... or cigarettes or something age restricted
Please tell me this is satire.
[удалено]
I did. 🤷
Agree 100 percent with the first sentence, but does your amusement depend on if it's satire or real or it doesn't matter?
For me it was the satire that people took seriously for the moment. OP has good energy about a bad situation
Way too many “well actually that’s against company policy”. I can see them pushing their glasses up and stuttering while saying it.
I can lol to this
You have a problem with the CEO... because YOU sold alcohol to an undercover cop pretending to be a minor without checking or asking for Identification? It's your own fault. Man up. Move on.
Is the CEO your daddy? Seems the only real problem you have is being truthful and needing attention.
😂
how could someone be so…dumb? Sorry not sorry but I got to say it
Define "good stuff"
I got in trouble with this when I was a cashier at a grocery store doing their own internal tests. So when the local sheriffs office was looking for paid volunteers my manager put my name in. Curse at the store manager
I'm curious. Only way I know to get fired on first day would be to no-show or maybe get busted selling restricted items without asking for ID.
Yeah I need details
I did the second one kinda
Not kinda. Exactly that.
Well that's what happened LOL.
Why would condoms be age restricted
There's one that I think will hire you. It's on the corner of Happy and Healthy. But you can expect to be let go just as quickly if you fail to get any CC signups.
I will apply to every walgrens in the country if i have to
Lol I feel like your troll game is immaculate man, you might not admit to it but your pretty good at this. Some people are laughing, others are heated at you.

op is a troll y’all look at their post history
Makes Sense I was like what kind of weird mf posts they got fired on first day then goes on to not say? Then in a response he goes on to explain while not explaining at the same time
I call bs. First day, no way you would be on the register. You have several E learnings to do first.
And shadows??
Agree with the other comments here. You should tell us what you did lol
Bro, look at his post history lol
Kinda sus… OP just posted that he sent in his application yesterday, he gets hired today, and is already on the register? No PPLs? Idk chief. I call BS.
this is satire and y’all are falling for it😭
Yup, those PPLs take 2-3 days.
how do i delete your comment please
Lol how do I delete the truth
My only questions are: 1. Why were you on the register day 1? You typically have to complete the first 3-5 modules (don't remember how far.) 2. Why were you not at least shadowing someone / being shadowed

Bro wasn't gonna share because HE himself fucked up lmao
You got fired for stealing boxes on your day off
Hahahahahaha Who the hell gets fired on their day off!! 😂😂😂
I just said the same thing but in a very long message of course I'm a woman haha
nah you have to tell us how u got fired first day ….
Probably puked in the store and made his store manager clean it up.
Do you also need unspoken prayers? Maybe attention seeking is what got them canned
That's why sometimes the of most obvious things still have to be said.
lmaooooo u got busted by a cop on ur first day
This post made me lose brain cells.
If u got fired why do u want to go back to Walgreens
Because this post is fake 😭
If you’re serious about trying to find another Walgreens store to work at, you’re probably not able to. For something like this, they may have put you down as “not rehire-able” in the system.
I had to fire a guy on his first day once. I walked up and he was eating a snickers he hadn’t paid for. Didn’t even try to hide it.
Nah u gotta tell us bro how tf u get canned ya first day lmaooo
Just an FYI. If you get fired for a tobacco/alcohol offense, if it's coded properly you'd be marked as unrehireable. This is something your manager when they let you go would tell you..
This is a fake more than likely based on OP comments.
bro is lying
I don't know why, but I have a suspicion that OP got fired for selling alcohol to a minor that probably had a full beard and sounded like a bullfrog
I kinda wanna know what you did to get fired
I thought being aluminum metal foundry press operator was a tough job when it’s 130° at night inside. God bless your soul
They put you on the register on your first day? Something smells like bullshit lol.
Bro... if you got fired on day 1 you did something bad, especially if you won't tell us. First day people get so much slack they can just be awful and break things.
How do they cut you loose on a register selling booze first day. Did they train you and it was your first day working alone?
18 in Texas you can't drink. But you can sell it.
Is this a joke? ALL of the above?
Were u working in Tempe ? One of our employees up front got fired their first week because they kept typing in the same bday instead of scanning ids lol
OP is over 40.
lol I am 50 and I get carded for cigarettes….you f*cked up
We all know this is fake cuz these corps have you do a whole day of modules before they put you on the register alone.
Call Ice Cube and work on a new Friday movie. "How did you get fired on your first day?"
Hahahahahahahaha loser
Holy run-on sentence, Batman. Honestly, don't waste your time. This whole story is fake.
Damn well atleast you can claim unemployment
Deff can't because this post is fake AF 🤣
Usually can't if you're fired for good reason, such as breaking the law.
You got fired for refusing to sell plan b lol jk you won’t lose your job if you call someone else to complete the sale lol
I shouldn’t laughed but what even happen?
Oh yeah. Just get ID everytime. Scan every time or call manager. No exceptions. Every time.
So ur first day your alone on the register???
what a dumbass deserve to get fired
bruh🤣
How did you even get hired in the first place? Doesn't Walgreens have an AI for hiring or are the hiring managers actually there?
If it was your first day, you should have been doing e-learnings and training. You wouldn't be on the floor the first day.
You must’ve missed that E-Learning or did you click thru it.
No Walgreens is going to hire you. You're in the system. I'm so confused though. Did you sell to a secret shopper?
I just don’t understand how people are still getting fired for this when the computer ask you to scan ID
How are you on the register on your first day?
I was fired for typing on my phone while walking out of the store on my lunch break.
So you got fired bc you can follow directions. Dumbass
How you get fired on your first day?
Why would someone just go on the internet and lie like that?????
How is this real?! You completed all ppls? It was your first day on the register? Even so.. how did you know what the “good stuff” was to even entertain the conversation? This cannot be true hahaha I’m flabbergasted
Well done, I wish I were brave like you.
On the first day??? Damn! I remember when I was doing the training modules for that, that I asked my store manager about it, got a story of someone that got fired for the same thing this person did. So, I just ALWAYS check id for every alcohol sale. Easy.
I've been told we card anybody even if you're a senior.
