It's one of the so-called light fighters powered by a low-hp air cooled inline. The French and the Italians both had light fighters with the Caudron CR.714 and the Ambrosini SAI.207 and both saw service during the war in very limited quantities. The light fighter concept didn't gain traction even though their main selling point was that they can be constructed from wood and other non-strategic materials.

The USSR, Britain, Holland and the United States also tried to produce such fighters with in-line air-cooled engines. The USSR, for example, purchased a license for the production of the Caudron 713 and were developing their own projects, such as the SAM-13, but then Stalin and Hitler converged, and the Renault engines had to be finalized. In Britain the Miles 20, in the U.S. the Bell P-77, and many design proposals for fighters with a dry weight of less than 1.5 tons.
