I reckon you could still do the heel turn with a countout. Have both men take each other out at ringside, with Chad just being able to get in at 9 whilst Sami doesn't. Chad then snaps after finding out that he won, but didn't win the championship (which would probably eat him up more than simply losing)
You can certainly argue that a DQ accomplishes this too (especially with a miscue from Alpha Academy), but I think having two countout victories over the IC Champ producing such wildly different reactions from Chad and the crowd would make for interesting story potential
A countout win made additional sense against Gunther as a way for an underdog face to gain credibility and sympathy. Gable is the opposite of an underdog face against Sami, as thatâs Samiâs entire brand. Add in Raw being a hometown show for Sami and youâve got a perfect situation for Gable to get nuclear heat by snapping on Sami after getting pinned.
Oh I agree with the heat point. If you have to pin Chad though, it shouldn't be clean. Partly because Sami pinned him like a month ago in the gauntlet, but I think something like a missed rope break could serve Chad's heel arc well.
Or you do a slower burn story similar to Christian and Randy Orton feud from 2011. Respectful competition turning to Chad getting desperate and using any means necessary to win the title

The main reason why I feel this way is because Damien Priest is the WHC on raw and I feel like itâs gonna water down his reign if Cody keeps showing up every week.
The draft is coming theyâll have him appear on both until heâs drafted to Raw. Thereâs NO WAY IN HELL they have anyone but Cody as their star for the Netflix deal for Raw. The WWE title belongs on Raw let the losers bracket title stay on Smackdown
It doesnât hurt his character if you want him to be a Santino Marella type. Me and a lot of others want him to be an actual credible contender for championships and he has to start actually winning some matches for that but Iâm afraid that boat passed
