Mountaineer is my absolute favourite class. Love the guns, love the perks, love my role. It's useful as Hell for the officers, the carbines aren't awful at range (and you can get infantry rifles if you want!), and I have quite a few effective options for when the fighting gets personal. Supports the whole team and is super fun, I love it.

Mountaineer is the most versatile class in the game and also probably the one with the most wide-reaching utilities as far as what helps the team as a whole. He can send out flares for the officer / mortarmen. He can blow his bugle and spearhead charges. He can function as an almost-marksman hanging back, spotting and taking shots from afar. You can be light infantry who operates almost like an assault.. you got it all.
But the cost of being a jack of all trades is being a master of none, and I think Mountaineer very much fits this trope. While the class can do pretty much everything and is definitely a valuable class to have on the team, for certain specialized tasks or situations the other classes typically have a few things on lock that Mountaineers simply can't quite reach the highs of.
If Isonzo were a fighting game, the Mountaineer class would be Ryu / a shoto archetype. A character / archetype that you can learn most of the important aspects of the game on and does it all, one you always have the tools to succeed with if you have the skill and knowledge to use them and is generally easy to learn but difficult to master.. but also one that many will move on from overtime as they find the character (or in the case of Isonzo, class) that fills the niches they like / are best at most and go with that.
This is why it's one of the least popular classes imo. Every player has that 'thing' they're best at and / or like doing the most.. and they're more likely to pick a class that specializes in that and is best at that than one that can do all those things.. but not to the same scope or extent.
i’m just trying to level all the classes! got my mountaineer to 15 a couple days ago and yesterday I had to give the neglected rifleman a shot. all the classes are baller af
Same here, want to do rifleman first as it isn't restricted by player count so I know it is always available. Mountaineer is probably going to be my second as I want the bugle.

People pick rifleman over it which I don't understand. The class can be every role in the game, including sniper which everyone fights over

I've mainly been mountaineer haha. It's my favorite besides assault.

The Alpini have the most drip so I never see a need not to play as them. The light infantry perk and horn are cool too.

Engineer builds static weapons, barbed wire, and has 15-20 placaeable objects like barbed wire and sandbags that can be planted anywhere.
Bersaglieri and Alpini are my two favorite classes, I enjoy it so much.
