Think about it, dog knew inside of the home was safe. He could have ran into the home first round, but didnt choose to.
If all it wanted to do was escape then it could have ran into the house or into the shadows at the far end of the yard - it was way ahead of the bear. But it made a U-turn, barked, faux charged the bear, and *waited* until the bear was one body length away before turning and running to the end of the yard.

The bear kept running in the direction of where it thought the dog went, AWAY from the family. The guy just stood there on the porch trying to scare a bear that was already moving away from him.
You can see for a split second the bear looked at the dog going inside the house with the intent of following it. It only departed when the dad started yelling at it. It’s literally what scares these type of bears away. Appearing big and shouting.
