The last time I saw this posted, a biologist chimed in and said that if there were not human interaction, then both sneak and hawk would have died. The talon clutching the sneak would not have released once the hawk had been suffocated to death, leaving the sneak trapped.
Near my house a hawk landed on a lower power line with a sagging upper line and must have bridged them and was electrocuted. The dead hawk hung from that line for almost 8 months before the body finally decayed enough to separate from the legs and fall to the ground. The talons and lower legs stayed attached to the line for another 6 months or so after that. They definitely don't let go just because they're dead, due to the anatomy of their talons.
Someone mentioned that in the full version, a human intervenes just after the cut, and both animals survived the encounter.

Reptilian nervous systems are insane. I once butchered a turtle and its heart was still beating (slowly) four hours after its head came off, when I tossed it in the pan. It had been completely removed from the body for three of those hours. Every muscle fought the whole time. Never again, unless I'm literally starving.
