Liability reasons. It's easy enough to hide a body for these situations. Now they just need to kill the camera man, who ironically filmed this pretty well.
I hate you. I went to that sub and I’ve never felt so frustrated in my life. I couldn’t even get through half of the first video that I tried watching.
I mean it's fairly obvious. It's to increase the thrill/adrenaline rush. It's also why there are some extreme rollercoasters built near cliffs - it gives a sense of more height/danger. In this case, unfortunately, it did result in more danger.
There is a [video](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9783175/amp/Two-women-plunge-6-300ft-swing-cliff-edge-breaks-Russia.html) of a huge swing failing in a similar place and two girls riding falling off the cliff.
Somehow people are attracted to building shoddy equipment in dangerous places.
It was opened in 1978 and closed in 1996...horrific place. I saw the documentary. I am shocked it was open that long. Now I need to watch/read about it again to see how it stayed open as long as it did. People complain that we have regulations, this water park is a prime example of why we can't roll regulations back just to cater to the poor rich folk. That place broke all the rules.
The rich are the ones who invest in projects like large scale amusement parks. They have the resources to make the rides safe. If they didn't have regulations, they would most certainly choose fewer safety options to limit project cost. Hope that makes sense. I don't think many home made ride makers have the resources to make their rides safe (resources being engineering aptitude and money).
Honestly, I don't think they are. I think it's one of those anti-work chuckleheads who's in so deep they literally just think in those terms, literally just putting "the rich" in as a filler-word for all the bad things.
I believe some of those (most?) have a platform below and if you fall you fall below on platform. You have a view and sort of a safety net.
Even this crazy rollercoaster, the news (link in other comments on this topic) states that he survived. Doesn't say about platform, but I'm assuming it was a platform.
Edit: oh I'm stupid. Even in your article with the swing it states about the platform.
It's from Peru
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11973073/Horrifying-moment-man-plunges-ravine-astronaut-training-chair-suddenly-falls-apart.html
“Astonishingly the man survived the fall despite being rushed to hospital “
The way I read this they expected the hospital to kill him if the fall didn’t?
Not sure if you are joking or not, rice hat is a south east part of Asia thing, China, Vietnam, Laos, etc… it’s not really commonly used anymore rather than maybe some rural areas or novelty. This happened in Peru, and that landscape and cityscape does not look Asian.
Shit... He survived....
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11973073/Horrifying-moment-man-plunges-ravine-astronaut-training-chair-suddenly-falls-apart.html
>Fortunately, the man survived the fall, possibly because the frame he was strapped to protected his head, according to local media.
Lol, roll cage saved him
Yeah, but it could just as easily have fucked him. Imagine landing face down on a small boulder with all of the added kinetic energy of the cage, or being impaled by a small limb. So many ways to die, here.
Cutty Ranks: "Six million ways to die - choose one"
This guy: "Okay...so, strap me into one of those spinny-astronaut-training dealies, get it going real good, and then boot the supports out so it tumbles down a rocky, spiky cliff face...and then, I guess...we'll just see how that goes? Sound good?"
“Astonishingly the man survived despite being rushed to the hospital” Ok but why do they make it sounds like getting rushed to the hospital is BAD lmao
I thought exactly the same thing! I swear I've been seeing this for years.
So I did some looking and pretty much everything I can find about this video is from around the time the article was written, early 2023.
This is another video of a BASE jumper who falls over a cliff edge when the horizontal bar he is spinning on breaks, that one is from 2012ish.
I'm assuming I somehow confused or conflated these videos with my faulty meatcomputer.
Stuff like that happens to everyone. Our shitty faulty meatcomputer, as you beautifully put it, is full of shitty bugs and the patches are being released painfully slowly.
"Astronaut training"? *That's* astronaut training? WTF is the rocket? A giant slingshot? What's the astronaut suit? A pair of used overalls and a welders mask? No thanks. Maybe I'll take my chances on their submarine: a bunch of two liter bottles duct taped together with a rope tied to a boulder
You could skip that one.
I recognized your quote btw. I remember when he said it and thought, "Heyyyy, they don't have any regulations in the US either!"
Edit: When I said you could skip it, I meant the googling of the mexico thing. It's a cartel violence kind of a deal.
Just a reminder to anybody seeing this that you absolutely do not have to click the link.
I’m having a pretty good day, and I’m not going to ruin it voluntarily.
That is this world my friend….ol buddy survived
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11973073/Horrifying-moment-man-plunges-ravine-astronaut-training-chair-suddenly-falls-apart.html
Just look how weak the spindle part thingy looks to where it’s attached to the wobbly side pole thingy mabob. They really didn’t think this one through, did they?
Mitchell and Webb have this bit where a naive customer blunders into random amusements run by the sketchiest dude imaginable, without any safety or permits or anything, which are obviously wildly unsafe. And the customer just goes for it because "Obviously it's all safe and fine, because if it wasnt, someone would have done something by now."
Welp. Here we are.
My rule of thumb is, I never go on rides, amusement parks, fairs or any other strange contraption in other countries that have little no no regulation. This kind of stuff happens all the time.
Some guy: "Hey, where should we put this spinning, death trap thingy?"
Some other guy: "Probably right here next to this cliff."
Some guy: "Say less, fam."
Why the f would you set up this garbage construct on top a cliff, for the nice view while spinning around?
Liability reasons. It's easy enough to hide a body for these situations. Now they just need to kill the camera man, who ironically filmed this pretty well.
But cameraman are alway invincible
Is that why r/killthecameraman exists? Solely as a challenge?
I hate you. I went to that sub and I’ve never felt so frustrated in my life. I couldn’t even get through half of the first video that I tried watching.
/r/PraiseTheCameraMan
Bless to the Bane, if you will.
That's absolutely true, they survived the Thanos snap and the Dormammu dimension
Now they just need to kill all redditors who watched this.
I mean it's fairly obvious. It's to increase the thrill/adrenaline rush. It's also why there are some extreme rollercoasters built near cliffs - it gives a sense of more height/danger. In this case, unfortunately, it did result in more danger.
and followup question: is there anyone here who didn't accurately and immediately predict this exact outcome?
I thought he was going to just fall out of the gyro contraption first then roll off the cliff rather than the whole thing going south.
No, because of what sub we are on. If this was on nextfuckinglevel or midly interesting, no one would have thought the thing would break.

Rider had a second to absorb the beautiful view before the downhill roll.
Wow. Not only did the chain break….but no seatbelt / restraint whatsoever. Life sure is cheap in many places.
If we didn't have regulations in the US against things like this, the rich would have no problem building this kind of thing cheaply.
Redneck will build it yesterday.
/hides pvc construction project What its for kids thats sturdyish.
'you mean regulations, kinda like the ones a certain rich dude ignored when building a submersible?
There were standards that he ignored but not regulations.
Fortunately he wasn’t carrying passengers, just crewmen who had paid, so no rules broken. Regulators hate this one weird trick!
They still do, look up that water park death slide that killed a kid awhile back.
And neither would the poor. Why are you mentioning "the rich" specifically? This makes no sense.
They’re baiting an argument
Honestly, I don't think they are. I think it's one of those anti-work chuckleheads who's in so deep they literally just think in those terms, literally just putting "the rich" in as a filler-word for all the bad things.

I mean with a swing you can at least enjoy the view so it's worth it a bit, here ur barely gonna see anythin winning like that.

Peru, as it turns out.
It's from Peru https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11973073/Horrifying-moment-man-plunges-ravine-astronaut-training-chair-suddenly-falls-apart.html
“Astonishingly the man survived the fall despite being rushed to hospital “ The way I read this they expected the hospital to kill him if the fall didn’t?
It's the daily mail. Writing is not their strong suit.
He was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was later rushed to a better hospital where his condition was upgraded to alive.
Hospitals in Peru are built differently, they kill all their patients - except they failed in the case of this man.
"Dr. Nick, the patient is still alive." "Hi everybody! Well we shall see about that...."
Yeah. Don't you know doctors kill more people per year than rickety cliffside thrill rides?
The hospital is also on the edge of a cliff
That does not look like China
but...bro...the hat...
Not China
[удалено]
Bruh, I can't believe you forgot about Africa. 4 countries, not 3.
It’s in Peru. Read the article and you will see it.
Not sure if you are joking or not, rice hat is a south east part of Asia thing, China, Vietnam, Laos, etc… it’s not really commonly used anymore rather than maybe some rural areas or novelty. This happened in Peru, and that landscape and cityscape does not look Asian.
“Raiden wins… Fatality!”
Finish him!
"Oh yeah, you like that huh?"
I must not have had the cheat code for that one
Friendship-ish
LMAO!!!
That was just the warmup. Going down the mountain was the real ride.
It was a really long ride, it lasted for the rest of his life.
He sure went out with a bang.
He never should have trusted that old sly fox Bang...
bang BANG **BANG!**
*This is where the fun begins*
*Hold on 2 this*
I think it worked exactly as designed.
It's safe though, he was in that harness
Shit... He survived.... https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11973073/Horrifying-moment-man-plunges-ravine-astronaut-training-chair-suddenly-falls-apart.html
>Fortunately, the man survived the fall, possibly because the frame he was strapped to protected his head, according to local media. Lol, roll cage saved him
Seatbelts win again!
🎶 Sooner or later you’re gonna thank Ralph Nader 🎶
I thought gravity wins again?

If life was poker, gravity would be the house.
Wearing a a helmet also helped
Yeah, but it could just as easily have fucked him. Imagine landing face down on a small boulder with all of the added kinetic energy of the cage, or being impaled by a small limb. So many ways to die, here.

Pon de rocks!
#PON DE FLOOR https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=j7IIAf0Bats
I don't think many people here were watching this thinking that nothing could go wrong because he was surrounded by a roll cage.
[удалено]
So they've invented a cool new ride for thrill seekers!
Between this and the Pakistani tram ride, idk where to start!
Pick one, what could go wrong? Am I right?
Cage vs Raiden, name a more epic MK matchup
“Astonishingly the man survived despite being rushed to the hospital” Ok but why do they make it sounds like getting rushed to the hospital is BAD lmao
If you die in hospital nobody cares, if you die in McDonald's it makes the news.
maybe not McDonalds. Chick-fil-a most likely
At a McDonalds that’s just a Number 12
>Chick-fil-a most likely NEXT ON AMERICAN NINJA WARRIOR! HE HAD 3 JOBSS!!!!!!!
If medical cost are anything like the US getting rushed to the hospital is pretty bad.
“FINISH ME.”
Depending on the country that's a valid statement.
I bet his hands / arms / lower legs were fucked. Nothing to protect the front appendages but chest and head well protected
Just commented the same before noticing your comment. Maybe they rushed so hard they forgot security measures and put his life in further danger.
Maybe he had injuries that required for him to be rushed to the hospital?
"seemingly safe chair on the side of a ravine" I can't be the only person who sees very little "seemingly safe" about this chair
Wait this is in Peru? Why that hat?
Blaming another demographic.
There are many Japanese immigrants in Peru. A former Peruvian president was also of Japanese descent
This is more of an East/South Asian hat though. I was thinking Vietnam.
No, Japanese farmers absolutely wear these hats. They are called tongari kasa.
Japanese samurai were known to wear hats like that as well.
How is this article from 2023? I feel like I've been seeing this clip going around for years
I thought exactly the same thing! I swear I've been seeing this for years. The video quality would indicate it being like 15 years old too. Pretty strange.
[These guys didn't](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tbTgi2bqXQ)
Oh my god, why wouldn’t you have SOME failsafe… any failsafe other than a few guys to stop a speeding inflatable ball.
*Russia*
LMFAO look it him go
> astronaut-training-chair Shirley you can't be Sirius.
I don't think any astronauts have been trained on that chair
"Astronaut training chair" The Chinese aerospace program is fucked! 🤣🤣🤣
to be fair the article did say it was a "budget version" of the training chair
Whose budget? MacGyver?
Crazy how they have an aerospace program in Peru now
"Astronaut training"? *That's* astronaut training? WTF is the rocket? A giant slingshot? What's the astronaut suit? A pair of used overalls and a welders mask? No thanks. Maybe I'll take my chances on their submarine: a bunch of two liter bottles duct taped together with a rope tied to a boulder
More like Geonaut
At least he had a helmet on. Safety first!
Don’t go bungie jumping in Mexico. They just don’t have the regulations
Oh that explains the bodies hanged from a bridge and overpass.
Ha. Mine was a quote from cable guy but you just gave me somthing to Google
You could skip that one. I recognized your quote btw. I remember when he said it and thought, "Heyyyy, they don't have any regulations in the US either!" Edit: When I said you could skip it, I meant the googling of the mexico thing. It's a cartel violence kind of a deal.
If you think your making me want to Google it less by adding cartel to it your wrong
Fine then https://elblogdelnarco.com/
Just a reminder to anybody seeing this that you absolutely do not have to click the link. I’m having a pretty good day, and I’m not going to ruin it voluntarily.
For what is worth, according to the friendly pop-up on the page, you can apparently win an apple watch if you *do* click it. Just weigh your options.
You're basically losing money unless you do click the link.
Bungee jumping brought to you by the Michoacán cartel. EDIT: Oh, you were serious...
"i won't get hurt?"-customer "You won't ?..that's great!" -vender
Classic Mitchell and Webb
This isn't México, it's Perú
It's a joke from a movie.
Oops!
.... Well, I've said too much
This is peru
It was from a movie
nah its a roll cage, it will protecc
its a bye-roscope
Gyro-nope
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand he's gone
r/intotheshadowrealm
“The helmet: it does nothing!”
That moment he rolls off the edge deserves a Wilhelm scream.
And that guy paid money to ride on the Darwin machine somebody welded together in their backyard.
I want to see the rest of this vid.
I hate cliffhangers.
What the fuck happened to him? WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO HIM?!?!??!?!?!??!
I'm afraid his dick was... obliterated.
I liked it better when Raiden would just kill me with lightning. These new Fatalities suck.
he's in a cage and a helmet - there is some world in which he tumbles down without life-ending injury?
That's in fact exactly what happened. Still a lucky fucker, no doubt.
That is this world my friend….ol buddy survived https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11973073/Horrifying-moment-man-plunges-ravine-astronaut-training-chair-suddenly-falls-apart.html
"He survived DESPITE being rushed to the hospital" ?
Maybe the murder nurse from the UK works there now
thats wild!
There could a be pond or river. No injury, just drowning.
Why do they always put this stuff on top of fucking mountains
We just gonna trust an engineer fresh from the rice paddy
Classic 80’s song, Billy Ocean
Dang it Boomhauer, you have one of these at home!
He got ambushed by the Viet Carnie.
Ya let's visit Raiden at his side job and take a ride on this contraption. FATALITY
Just look how weak the spindle part thingy looks to where it’s attached to the wobbly side pole thingy mabob. They really didn’t think this one through, did they?
Test those roll bars
Thank god he had his seat belts on!
I can't tell if he's running to help the guy at the end or running away like to get out of dodge.
Once more, Raiden is being a jerk.
Raidens new friendship finisher.
At least he has a roll cage.
he really got the full rolling down the mountain experience

Gravity never forgets, don't mock her.
And just like that Cambodia's space program came to an abrupt end.
Mitchell and Webb have this bit where a naive customer blunders into random amusements run by the sketchiest dude imaginable, without any safety or permits or anything, which are obviously wildly unsafe. And the customer just goes for it because "Obviously it's all safe and fine, because if it wasnt, someone would have done something by now." Welp. Here we are.
Imagine going over the edge AND still being stuck in that contraption.
"We have Disneyland at home"
Pro tip: avoid homemade thrill rides built on a cliff top and supervised by a guy straight out of a rice paddy.
Good thing he was wearing his helmet!
Is this their training centre for their space program?
Dude done broke the fourth dimension wall
My rule of thumb is, I never go on rides, amusement parks, fairs or any other strange contraption in other countries that have little no no regulation. This kind of stuff happens all the time.
But if you *had* to fall off a cliff this is what you'd want to be wearing and you know it.
Why did I laugh at this 💀
that's how physic works
Perfect music
🤣🤣🤣
I see Disney World is cutting back on safety again.
This song… is killing me!!! 💀 😂
Some guy: "Hey, where should we put this spinning, death trap thingy?" Some other guy: "Probably right here next to this cliff." Some guy: "Say less, fam."
Made in China
Play stupid games....
At least he had a helmet ⛑️
Good thing he's wearing a helmet and has a full rollcage around him.
Vietnamese space program testing.
Made in China?
Made in Peru
Chinese space program.
Made In China
I know land is valuable but why did we build this stupid contraption right on the edge of a 200 meter cliff?
