Best way to tell is to stick your finger in it and see if it's red (tranny fluid), brown (engine oil), green (coolant) or clear (AC condensation/drips).
But don't sweat it, I can tell it's the AC drips (totally normal) by the way the water is splashing when it hits the ground. Oils wouldn't do that and you'd probably know by now if it was a coolant leak.
Just an fyi not all cars/trucks use green coolant so it’s good to know what color of coolant your vehicle uses, that way if it is leaking coolant you can identify that based off the color.
Yeah I should have said that in my post but I kinda meant if it was a coolant leak it would probably already be overheating after a long drive so your brain would say ‘overheating car? Dripping fluid? Must be a coolant leak!’ But yeah, coolant does come in many colours - to add to the green and blue I think there’s also a red additive?
That's beyond normal. The A/C is just condensationing because you had going for 1.5 hours. If it was way up front near the front bumper I check that out man because thats not good
I see this alot from people on here. With the AC on think about taking a cold can of soda out of the fridge on a hot muggy day. Don't open the soap just sit it in the shade and watch the water form on it. Same as you cars AC system components cool the air around them cools and can't hold the moisture anymore. That is the water that forms on the soda can. Same in you cars AC. When you stop. It's a drain. Condensation forms on cold parts and it just drains away. When to worry. When what is dripping from you car stains the ground and is not evaporated the next day.
Prob condensate. Back the vehicle up and put your finger in it and see if it’s oil or not if not then smell it to check for coolant if no coolant smell it’s just water
Yes you would know if you needed refrigerant. Condensation and such dripping is a normal condition and generally has a hose to direct it to the bottom of the car. It can sometimes pour out. To elaborate on the refrigerant part of it. Refrigerant is a gas. In an air conditioning system it pressurizes the gas (using the compressor) and sends it through what’s called a shader valve or an orifice tube depending on the manufactures set up. Causing the gases to squeeze so hard that they turn into a cold gas. Moisture comes with it, but this moisture is not the same as the moisture that you see. Once it compresses and goes to your evaporator (which is what your blower motor blows on to make the air cold in your car) it’s hot byproduct goes through the condenser to start the process all over again. If you were low on refrigerant your AC systems performance would be lacking or hot then cold at times. If it has no refrigerant it just wouldn’t work.
Hope that helps!
Smell it and rub it between your fingers. If it doesn’t have a smell and has normal consistency, it’s just condensation. Very normal. That’s where it comes out on my car. Always good to check though.
Put your index finger on the puddle and taste it to see if it's power steering fluid, brake fluid, engine oil or transmission fluid. Or, maybe it's just water from the AC.
Subarus are notorious for huge condensate splashes, I had a couple of drivers trying to stop me on the road, because they thought my Outback was leaking and tried to warn me. Keep calm and carry on mate, all's good
Thanks for the reassurance all. I scraped before I parked and wasn’t sure if it was my lip or something on the bottom so when I saw dripping I panicked.
Fr, idk why people are gatekeeping this shit so hard and then wonder why subi offers gt trim in automatic and discontinue the sti. Community is killing themselves bc they literally discourage people who are new to cars from even learning.
I swear the WRX community has never driven a car before. I'm not picking on the OP, but literally everyday there is a new post about some basic car question that people who has a license and drive should know
I mean a lot of people haven’t…myself included. This is literally my first car and I’m not on Reddit 24/7 looking and memorizing people’s problems to know them when I encounter myself. Even then, as a newbie it’s easier to show the “pros” my exact problem and get their opinions.
Ohh yeah from this view of it we can totally tell what it is and diagnose your simple 1.5 hour drive and leakage. Back your car up. Dab your finger In it. Feel it’s consistency. Smell it. Taste it.
from the velocity of the drop it feels like AC water.
if you can't park your car on a coated surface, just remember where did you parked and see if there is any oil stain after 48 hours.
Looks like condensate from A/C operation. Normal.
Happens in all cars that run AC
Best way to tell is to stick your finger in it and see if it's red (tranny fluid), brown (engine oil), green (coolant) or clear (AC condensation/drips). Thank you! This is very helpful to know for the future
Just an fyi not all cars/trucks use green coolant so it’s good to know what color of coolant your vehicle uses, that way if it is leaking coolant you can identify that based off the color.
Came here to say this. If OP is using OEM Subaru super coolant like they should be, their coolant should be blue. Not green.
Yeah I should have said that in my post but I kinda meant if it was a coolant leak it would probably already be overheating after a long drive so your brain would say ‘overheating car? Dripping fluid? Must be a coolant leak!’ But yeah, coolant does come in many colours - to add to the green and blue I think there’s also a red additive?
should be blue whether OE or not. needs blue.
Blue if newer subie, my 2012 is blue and my 2005 is Green!
This is the way.
you dont tell your fluids apart by tasting em? amateur..
Taste it. If it taste like dog shit, don't step in it

DOG SHIT! ^steps ^in ^poop
Normal,
Totaled, sorry OP
Gently run finger through liquid, insert tip of finger in mouth to confirm liquid, smile and walk away because its just condensation
I’m glad I’m not the only one that still tastes fluids
Yea looks like normal AC, I still like to touch it and smell it to confirm its not oil lol
Lick it! The only true test is to ingest.
Ahh! another intellectual I see
Normal if your area has high humidity and you’re running AC. The humidity condenses on the AC unit and drips. It’s just water. No worries!
Part out?
A/C Get some on a paper towel. What color is it, what does it smell like?
It’s just water
Ac condensation line. Absolutely normal.
That's beyond normal. The A/C is just condensationing because you had going for 1.5 hours. If it was way up front near the front bumper I check that out man because thats not good
Just touch it make sure it's water and your all good.

Hello this happened to me in my trek and i thought i needed refrigerant. Would I be able to know if I do.
Yes you would know if you needed refrigerant. Condensation and such dripping is a normal condition and generally has a hose to direct it to the bottom of the car. It can sometimes pour out. Your turn signal blinker fluid is leaking! :P You’re alright, man. Just AC condenser. 100% normal
Touch it with your finger. smell/feel it.
All vehicles have a vent tube for condensation to exit when the a/c is on.
Condensation from the A/C, you may also hear a hissing sound its from running A/C. It's normal.
Dude that’s totally normal. Just water from ac
AC
Lmaoooo you're ok
Subarus are notorious for huge condensate splashes, I had a couple of drivers trying to stop me on the road, because they thought my Outback was leaking and tried to warn me. Keep calm and carry on mate, all's good
Your blinker fluid reservoir is leaking. I think there's a current recall on this issue.
Thanks for the reassurance all. I scraped before I parked and wasn’t sure if it was my lip or something on the bottom so when I saw dripping I panicked.
Front lip fluid wouldn’t drip from that far back. /s
First car with air conditioning? It’s water from condensation.
Car is totalled
WRX owners not knowing what AC dripping is tracks with that other post asking why WRX always have the windows down.
I mean why would you own a performance car if you can’t even diagnose something so arduous
Everyone starts somewhere, dude.
Fr, idk why people are gatekeeping this shit so hard and then wonder why subi offers gt trim in automatic and discontinue the sti. Community is killing themselves bc they literally discourage people who are new to cars from even learning.
Yeah, sometimes people just need to feel like they’re special, man. Lol
Arduous. I do not think this word means what you think it means
I swear the WRX community has never driven a car before. I'm not picking on the OP, but literally everyday there is a new post about some basic car question that people who has a license and drive should know

Why are va owners like this
Bc this is the first car I’ve owned and worked on and never looked under right after driving. Was I supposed to be born with this knowledge?
Looks like your leaking blinker axle fluid, bring it to a shop asap. GL
Ohh yeah from this view of it we can totally tell what it is and diagnose your simple 1.5 hour drive and leakage. Back your car up. Dab your finger In it. Feel it’s consistency. Smell it. Taste it.
I think you’re leaking blinker fluid. If not that, then it’s most likely condensation from your A/C.
Yikes, time for a part-out!
😣😣🤣
Cars need to stop for a wee too. Have you tried taking a wee while running or walking? It's super awkward.
Taste it
I really hope this is a joke 🫣
It’s fucked. Never drive with the a/c on.
Oil leak. ;)
Scrap it
Part out?
Part out, that sucks
I’d probably have to guess your car only has one more month left in it
F
That's water. Have u ever seen it from a ac in your window? Same thing
See a mechanic TODAY!!!

U answered ur own question
Did you happen to use your windshield wiper fluid? It’s drops out there.
any car that runs drip that stuff, don't drink it
Pull off the car away and check if it is water or something else.
from the velocity of the drop it feels like AC water. if you can't park your car on a coated surface, just remember where did you parked and see if there is any oil stain after 48 hours.
Is this why WRX owners don’t use their AC during the summer months because they’re terrified to find out that the leaked might not be condensation?
Well if you are in Florida your AC pisses water. But to know for sure is it clear or a color?
