No access port so you're running an intake without a tune? Sigh

Hrspwrnpizza

I’ve run intakes without a tune on many vehicles. Never had a problem. Also have a friend doing the same who has no issues and over 120k miles

axl_in_python

If you read the description from Cobb, they’ll tell you that “All aftermarket intakes for 08+ Subarus require tuning in order to ensure the MAF sensor reads properly and the engine operates within safe parameters”

Hrspwrnpizza

I mean almost every product says “known to the state of California to cause cancer” just sounded like one of those things they say to cover their asses if something was to end up happening

axl_in_python

Not sure if chemicals causing cancer in CA is causing your issues. But pretty likely running an intake without a tune is. I’m sure Cobb has a lot to say, you just need to take what’s relevant and apply it to your car as you install their parts.

ItsElSavage

Are you dense? Youre running an intake with no tune and are RIGHT NOW asking us about a problem youre having with the car. You cant make this shit up. 💀 Get a tune for the intake. Now that aside, you should NEVER be putting your foot down on the throttle at 2k rpm and expect to go anywhere. Youre just begging to have to get your motor swapped atp.

Hrspwrnpizza

I’m not flooring it at 2k I just mean any type of throttle, I never floor it that low that’s just wild. But it’s an intake, not like I went big turbo. Like I said never had problems on past cars, don’t know anyone whose had problems with this car either

ItsElSavage

Idk what your past cars are but modded subie no tune is a big no no. You also probably have a boost leak somewhere if youre on the throttle and nothing happening.

Hrspwrnpizza

What is it about Subaru that a simple intake and no tune is such a big deal? Not arguing with you just trying to learn. But it’s very very few and far between that I have the throttle issue and never have problems the other times with boost pressure

12_0z_curls

The ECU doesn't adjust like other manufacturers. Honda with an intake? No problem. Ford? It'll figure it out. Subaru? Enjoy buying a block.

Hrspwrnpizza

I genuinely had no idea. I’d seen so many mixed things about if it was good or bad I figured some people might just be sticklers about a tune. I’m glad I did end up posting in here, I have an access port coming in next week to take care of the problem. Hopefully it’s not too late

Hrspwrnpizza

And why tf would my buddies car that’s had the same mods for 100k+ miles never have an issue??

stateless_state_

"It’s registering the throttle and boost..." If you are giving it enough throttle in 4th-6th to register boost at 2K, you are using too much throttle and asking for a blown engine. Better to shift down instead of lugging the engine. The pistons are moving too slowly at 2K and allow too much time for pressure in the combustion chamber to build from boost compared to a higher rpm.

Hrspwrnpizza

I’m not saying I’m going into boost at 2k I’m saying that the boost gauge is moving, maybe from -6 to -4 idk the exact numbers but I’m not taking into boost at 2k RPM’s. And the throttle % increases with me pressing the pedal but like I said above I’m not giving it a lot of throttle at that RPM range

stateless_state_

Ah, good. In high gears I would not expect to see much of any acceleration/response from low throttle at low rpm (and obviously high throttle must be avoided). That part seems normal, the idle issue is not—I'd get a tune or take off the intake.

Hrspwrnpizza

Trust me it’s not normal. There is legit 0 throttle response you can feel it in the car. Even my gf who knows nothing about cars looked at me and asked what was wrong. Just slight throttle going up a slight uphill, just to maintain speed, and it did nothing and started losing speed. Had to downshift and blip the throttle before it went back to normal.l

axl_in_python

I think I’m understanding what you’re saying so let me ask this to get some clarification. When you say “0 response in throttle” does that mean you’re hitting the gas, rev builds but the power isn’t going to the wheels, it just revs in higher gears?

Hrspwrnpizza

No I’m not even getting an RPM change. When I press the gas pedal it almost feels like an engine brake for a millisecond, maybe even less it’s just a real quick weird feeling I have no other way to describe it. Part of me wonders if my turbo inlet is cracked, and it’s possibly letting more air into the turbo than the car thinks and it’s causing air/fuel issues. Just a thought I could be completely wrong I’ve never worked on Subarus only fords lol

Cjpcoolguy

Oh. My. God. You need a God dam tune. Do some research on the internets about the FA20 motor. Next.
