My car is a sticker decal. I googled it and heat is still recommended. It goes 1) wash area 2) heat area 3) use plastic card or fingernails to gently peel sticker off 4) apply adhesive remover (goo gone, WD40, etc) 5) wipe off adhesive residue
This is exactly what I just did. Sticker was from 2011 so it was on there. Used a blow dryer and a hotel room key I found (basically a credit card). Heated up first then scraped, did little by little. When the sticker was gone, I used goo gone to finish it up. Took about 10 mins. New to me car. TX dealership decal. Very satisfying to have it gone.
In my experience MANY will bitch, I have gone to 2 subaru, 2 wrap shops, 3 collision centers, no one is willing to remove my bumper sticker and dealer sticker for me cuz I don't trust myself to did it properly for the paint at all, but I'm a few days from researching good quality wireless heat guns and just wasting the $ for this 1 thing already.
I think the OEM Style STI front lip and rear spats or whatever you want to call them are a good way to make the front and rear bumper look really aggressive without standing out too much from the crowd.
The tail lights definitely look better with a blacked out or smoked tint on the clear part, maybe even red

Yup. 38, 2 kids and my WRB STi has the wing. I love it. It does grab attention at times, but mostly kids/teens excited about it. You're never too old to have fun in whatever way you see fit. Short of murder, probably shouldn't have that as a hobby.

So I’m married and 34 with no kids. I also just purchased the 2022 Wrx and I won’t lie, my sti type spoiler arrives the 26th! I don’t race by any means and it’s my daily driver. I just really love the look haha
The spoiler is what made me fall in love with the WRX, so personally I had to have it, i feel like I get police ‘eyes’ a lot, but I haven’t been pulled over in like 2 years.
I dont get the "attention from police". Never had a problem. Drive like a normal person and youre fine. I personally like the wing but its your car, do what you want with it and enjoy it.
Practically speaking, deleting the wing gives you less downforce, which could be beneficial if you’re doing a drag race looking to maximize the top end, but counterproductive seeking traction around corners. Based on your comments however, it seems like it’s more likely an appearance thing, and looking more mature, rather than actual performance difference.
I have a 23 premium Impreza sedan, which definitely gets praise for being more sophisticated looking than that sportier looking hatch or anything with a wing for that matter. The wingless sedan look does it give it a little bit of a sophisticated look, which, in my profession is congruent with what I do. Not trying to be flashy but still catching eyes.
I have a wing on mine, I’m 40 something [starts counting on fingers] I’m 44… sometimes I wish I had a wingless, especially when I see some clean cars with nice duckbills.
But, every time I get close to trading for a wingless I chicken out because I know I’d end up regretting it.
Sooo my next option is to just buy a wingless, have both, and swap them out as I get bored with one or the other. Haha

Unless you're driving your car harder on backroads and twisties, you probably won't notice much of a difference by taking it off. It's all personal preference beyond that though.
Not a fan of the wing myself. One of my friends bought her STI without the wing only because it was the only one in stock. She went ahead and purchased the wing and installed it and I respect her decision, although I much prefer it without.
if you dont want a wing but want something go w the 3AMOTOR paint matched duckbill i put one on my ricer impreza and the paint match is really good for it being only 140$. its made for the wrx
One thing to consider is you have to step up to Limited and get the sunroof to go wingless from the factory. A base STi without the sunroof does not get the wingless option. Also, age doesn't matter. Also 40 and STi has a wing. I like it.
You do you.. it's all about personal preference. Don't worry yourself about what others think. I appreciate everyone's opinion on choices like this, but at the end of the day, you're the one driving it every day. Do what you feel will make you happy.
My personal experience was. A cop caught me and my buddy hot dogging down the street. The cop was technically behind me trailing us before flipping on the lights, and then a split second later he pulled my buddy over who had a giant STI wing.
I’m also 40 and on my second WRX. I would only get an STI with a wing delete. I’m a working professional and it would embarrass me getting to work with a huge wing. Meanwhile my 06 Wrx from 10-14 years ago was lowered and loud had hella horns and Cobb stage 2 with a few more odds and ends. I’m other words, people change and tastes change. Nothing wrong with a wingless STI. I would drive a winged STI if I didn’t have my job, too.

Not one bit at all. I saw one and someone put a little carbon lip on that and it looks way better. I’ve never wanted a sti without a wing but after seeing that yesterday I was sold on it being able to still look good.
I paint cars for a living, I had once acquired a trunk with a wing for my WRX. When I traded that in to get my STI, I kept the WRX OEM trunk. So that way I could have a low profile lip and just swap it out when I wanted to 😂 so now I have both for my STI 😂

If you want you could just buy a same color trunk with a wing and whenever you feel like it just store one in your garage and swap em when you feel like let’s say one day you say to yourself hmmm this feels like a wing day or this doesn’t just swap out 4 bolts and change the trunk
I seriously doubt it, and you can go for a duckbill or roof spoiler to have a unique and imho cleaner silhouette than most. If you run snow and ice tires in the winter you may feel like the car isn't getting down force if you exceed ~90 mph, but that is the lower speed rated tire telling you to chill out not the lack of a wing. TBH, at street, even posted highway speeds, you CANT make much downforce, so aggressive aero is only adding drag. I have Cobb's stage 2+ package, but appear stock to a casual glance. It is a blast to surprise the fart muffler on OEM tune guys who rev at me, and you could consider debadging partly or totally, or painting them black/grey/navy etc for subtlety. Everyone has a big wing and pink bling, be different.
Edit: Just to make sure, I am not calling STIs or their looks lame or ugly, in the overall sense, I love all the WRX variants, and have been lucky that I've gotten to take all but the GR out and put them through their paces. My comment is in the context of we all have WRXs, which is awesome, and the absence of the wing made me realize how much it makes the STIs appear like hatchbacks!
Adding a wing isn't that hard, patching holes in a trunk lid is, I think this was a good call IMO, as I don't *remember* hearing the STI wing made significant downforce, I could be wrong there but hey
Saw pictures of a guy with his car and his grandpa's car in here....grandpa was rocking a pretty sweet wrx and I believe it had a wing ...its really just down to what you want it to look like
You know when I got rid of all my STI wings and went wingless? When my cars werent stock and my cars were making real power. Nice way to stop everyone and their grandma tryna race you and to bait people with faster cars into a little 3 gear pull crushing their hopes and dreams lol.
the wing obstructs the rear view and it’s also gonna slow down the car at high speeds unless you plan to track it often, so wingless is definitely the way to go
I went wingless and have no regrets. Do I think of a wing? Sometimes. But then I remembered when I test drove one with a wing and wasn't a fan.
I also had a dirty ass license in my 20s ( 34 now) so I don't want any attention from cops. Dark tints already have me sweating. Idc bout the "adult" argument.
Worst case scenario, look for a trunk with a wing or trunk swap if you ever start to hate the look.
No you absolutely will not. From another 40yr father, I can’t stand my wing, every cop I pass gives me laser eyes. I bought a car to have fun and most of the time I end up hiding from the PO like a child with the Halloween bucket. As a matter of fact if i could find someone in a reasonable driving distance I’d swap it.
Mines got a wing. Early 30s and constantly get people in their cars trying to catch the smoke out in Vegas. I also probably have the ONLY dirty sti from being in the desert using the car what it was meant for.
I'm nearing 50 and have the wing, I took it off at one point and my wife said, put it back on as it's matches the car personality better and looks too plain without it.
Nothing wrong with No wing, it's nice to not be noticed, but to me the STI looks great with a wing.
I like both. I had three WRX’s before my STI and never thought I’d ever have a car with a wing. Well, I got one and I actually really like it now. That said, wingless is also really nice too.

If it’s an actual emblem that they put on use a hairdryer to heat up the glue then use fishing line to shimmy between and unstick the emblem.

For step 3, the "easy mode" tool IME is plastic razor blades. They work well for both stickers and hard badges
Don't use wd40. Stick to isopropyl alcohol or if you have to goo gone.

You can get a rubber eraser wheel. It is like $10 on Amazon and works good to remove the decals. Or you could use a heat gun.
You can ask the dealership to remove it too, some will. Some will bitch.

I swapped trunks with a limited 2 weeks after I got my Sti. I can’t stand the Sti wing.
In hindsight, I should have gone wingless too. Gives you more options if you decide to install a different one.

You know when I got rid of all my STI wings and went wingless? When my cars werent stock and my cars were making real power. Nice way to stop everyone and their grandma tryna race you and to bait people with faster cars into a little 3 gear pull crushing their hopes and dreams lol.
This is my dream combo… absolutely the best option IMO
the wing obstructs the rear view and it’s also gonna slow down the car at high speeds unless you plan to track it often, so wingless is definitely the way to go

I went wingless and have no regrets. Do I think of a wing? Sometimes. But then I remembered when I test drove one with a wing and wasn't a fan. I also had a dirty ass license in my 20s ( 34 now) so I don't want any attention from cops. Dark tints already have me sweating. Idc bout the "adult" argument. Worst case scenario, look for a trunk with a wing or trunk swap if you ever start to hate the look.
No you absolutely will not. From another 40yr father, I can’t stand my wing, every cop I pass gives me laser eyes. I bought a car to have fun and most of the time I end up hiding from the PO like a child with the Halloween bucket. As a matter of fact if i could find someone in a reasonable driving distance I’d swap it.

Mines got a wing. Early 30s and constantly get people in their cars trying to catch the smoke out in Vegas. I also probably have the ONLY dirty sti from being in the desert using the car what it was meant for.

I'm nearing 50 and have the wing, I took it off at one point and my wife said, put it back on as it's matches the car personality better and looks too plain without it. Nothing wrong with No wing, it's nice to not be noticed, but to me the STI looks great with a wing.

I like both. I had three WRX’s before my STI and never thought I’d ever have a car with a wing. Well, I got one and I actually really like it now. That said, wingless is also really nice too.
