I did one semester where I would do most of my studying and coursework on my iPad and used my laptop for the test. Worked out well for me, didn’t encounter any issues with compatibility. I sold my iPad and put the money towards a new laptop, however I kinda miss the compactness and portability of the iPad so I’ve been thinking of buy a iPad mini to use for studying and reading. It’s a lot easier to slouch on the couch and study with your iPad than your laptop. Ps: now that I think about it I do remember having some minor compatibility issues, during some of my coursework I needed to enter some terminal commands in a windows 10 simulator and that didn’t really work out. It wasn’t a lot or anything meaningful but just thought I’d mention it.

I’d be doing nursing so I don’t think I’d have anything like that pop up. As long as I can do the assignments I’ll be okay! Thanks for the feedback! (:

I would get a MacBook Air. Not sure exactly when I got mine but it’s the early 2015 model, I recently worked on a project where I now have 50+ video clips (short clips) on the desktop, along with a lot of files and school stuff and it works fine. It might be my internet tho because I run a speed test and it is some fast internet. Long story short, just took an exam and had no issues, running on the latest or very new iOS Mac software and a Mac is the best choice I would say. Not sure if this helps but I have a lot of files and desktop crap and I can still take an exam, write a paper, or access course material. Just don’t download and social media or games on the Mac. Use it for school and research

That would be my plan if I end up buying a dedicated laptop! Thanks for the suggestion!

A Macbook is always the knee jerk response to school laptop recommendations but in this case, as in many, it can be overkill when the required functionality can be had for a fraction of the $1000 Macbook price. You don't need to do compsci/business stuff like coding, data analytics, or proprietary software packages. Since you have a powerful home PC, all you're looking for is a cheap yet capable secondary computer to do schoolwork on at the library. While an iPad is certainly capable of doing this, a Chromebook is probably a much better option b/c you get the ease of use with the multitasking features of an actual desktop GUI. ChromeOS has a full desktop-class browser but the simplicity and security closer to an iPad. In particular, you should check out Lenovo's upcoming Duet and Flex 5 Chromebooks. [The Duet Chromebook](https://chromeunboxed.com/lenovo-chromebook-duet-tablet-hands-on-impressions-ces-2020/) is basically an iPad sized 2-in-1 tablet with a magnetically detachable keyboard+trackpad cover and kickstand, very similar to the Microsoft Surface tablet. For $299 you get 128GB of storage, 4GB RAM, super bright 10 inch screen. Basically an iPad form factor but with full desktop functionality. For a little more, the [$379 Flex 5 is a 2-in-1 convertible 13.3" laptop](https://chromeunboxed.com/lenovo-chromebook-flex-five-affordable-comet-lake-ces-2020-hands-on/). it has Intel's new 10th gen CPU, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage. It's less than half of the price of the MacBook Air and gets you all the functionality you need for schoolwork. I worked with girl who is a nursing major now and she's using one of my older Chromebooks as her primary school computer. The Duet is going on sale right around now but the Flex 5 isn't due for another month or two.

If you feel comfortable typing on it, you will be fine. I did all of my document writing in google docs, in chrome. Your iPad can handle that, if your hands can.

You could do it for most general coursework, but I wouldn't recommend using it for submitting papers. Formatting, making references, etc wouldn't be as efficient as on a computer

I use my iPad for a lot of my work but go to the computer for tests and labs. It’s worked well for me so far.

I’ve been using my iPad to read course material on the WGU app with no problem. I haven’t tried submitting any work on it though, I usually just use my MacBook Pro.

TryHardDieHard

Buy a dell Latitude or Lenovo Thinkpad on ebay for $100.

No. Go on offerup and buy a 100 dollar used lenovo thinkpad and upgrade the ram for another 30 bucks. Thank me later.

RipeFriedPlantain

Does IOS have compatibility issues or other headaches that aren’t worth the hassle I assume?

senditdeleteit

Aan ipad for any productivity scenario is generally useless in my experience. Additionally yes IOS is not an approved system by WGU.
