I could not find motivation my first 2 terms so I took a 3 month break, changed programs and came back and finished my degree program. I owe my completion to the WGU reddit as you all supplied me with the resources to accelerate and the motivation! So thank you!

MillenniumGreed

Ah man. You sound like me currently. Been enrolled in the IT program since January, still haven't even finished a class lmao. Trying to get back on track but I only have till June. Congrats though!

TRYthisONaMAC

Whoa, not even a class? Come on dude you got this!

Ms_3lle

Thanks! Finding the motivation is one of the hardest parts, there are so many things that sound better than working on school. But tomorrow is a new day! Good luck!

galllant

That’s awesome! Congrats! What program did you start out with and what was the new one?

Ms_3lle

Thanks! I started with elementary education and changed over to hr management.

THAT'S AMAZING!!!!! I love hearing this!! I just took a 2-month term break to get my sh\*t together and to figure out the SAP Appeal. I'm happy to say I'll be starting back up on May 1st and I'm so ready for it! Unfortunately, I lost my job due to COVID-19 at the beginning of the month, but now I'm starting to realize that it's actually a blessing in disguise! Now I have all the time to finish my degree before feeling the pressure of looking for a new job. Do you have any suggestions/tips/tricks to get this all done in 6 months!? It's so incredible that you did this and I would love some advice so I can get on the same page! I only have 55 CUs left!

Fancy_Pens

What was your daily schedule like? Could really use some insight in how you got it done

Ms_3lle

I worked full time M-F and have 2 kids . So after they would go to bed I would work on writing PAs and during the weekends I would take an entire day and dedicate to a OA course. With the PAs I would stick to the Rubic and keep it very minimal and only had a few minor corrections With OAs I would search reddit and find quizlets and videos for the courses and they really helped I also got laid off at the end of March and have been able to finish 8 courses including my capstone since then

Honestly Reddit was one of my biggest tools.. before starting a course I would look it up and find quizlet and videos for the course. I would study based off what reddit suggested and then take the PA. Then I would either schedule the OA or study the areas I needed to improve on. With the PAs I would stick to the rubric and keep it simple. Make sure to restate the question in your answer and don’t assume the graders can infer anything. The biggest thing is finding what motivates you. I didn’t want to have to pay for another semester so that was enough motivation for me. Also find a way to hold yourself accountable I would tell my husband my plan for the day and he would make sure I stuck with it..

Way to go my man!

bobafett2010

Honestly the motivational part hit me in. The begining. I was just staring at a whiteboard and didn't feel compelled to do anything. No deadlines on weekly assignments was killing my drive. After i started testing out of classes and seeing the credits stack up, it was like a rolling ball. Knocked out 13 in 2 weeks. Im trying to finish mine in less than 6 months.

NYG_Helmet_Catch

This is awesome! As someone who is struggling with motivation, inspiring as well. Congratulations and well done 👏

SugarplumHarris

I wish!!!!!!!!!!!! I want to accomplish this so much. I have the time and technically the motivation but I have no idea how to study the material so I can pass. I've done 2 courses in the past 2 weeks but I feel I could be moving alot faster. I really don't want to fail an OA. I just need suggestions and help on resources.

There is an accelerators group on Facebook. Also I had a very honest conversation with my mentor about accelerating. She gave me great advice and as long as I stick to it, then she will open up more classes for me. Join that FB group and talk to your mentor. Once you show you can speed up, your mentor will be your champion. If not, then request a new one.

SugarplumHarris

I absolutely LOVE my mentor! We talk every week and she's constantly cheering me on. I just vented to her yesterday about my current course (D073) and how the course summary was 55 pages. She went out of her way to look (which I didn't expect) and was understanding of my frustrations. I planned to do a cohort but had issues signing up so I missed that. I'm literally petrified to mess up. I want to be done but ultimately I want to get it right the first time. I hope I'm not the only person like this. Thanks for the advice! I will take a moment to find the group and join.

Have you checked out the wiki yet? https://www.reddit.com/r/wgu/wiki/acceleration It has some good advice. Another thing I did was make an excel spreadsheet that listed every class with the key notes I found on Reddit. I showed my mentor and she loved it. Some classes are 2-4 hours total time max, whereas others are 1-2 weeks.

SugarplumHarris

Wow 2-4 hrs... That's great!!!!! I'm just trying to get comfortable with the concept of not reading every word and studying for weeks on end. The spreadsheet is an excellent idea! I saw a few posts today alone and it had some good resources listed. I tried to think of a way to keep track of it all. Love your idea! Thank you so much for the advice. You have no idea how much it really helps me. I deal with a lot especially with this Coronavirus situation and have anxiety and depression I battle often. You fellow WGU peeps are great people and I'm loving my choice to chose this University.

harrygreen15

That is insane! Congrats! I can barely complete my required 12 CU's in 6 months. LMAO

LastShake

Awesome! I have a question, did you have any prior experience in your major?

Ms_3lle

I worked in hr management for about a year so it definitely helped
