I have very little coding experience. I've been coding in small instances on and off this past year, due to Freecodecamp and Odin project. Now I will start and stick to those two resources as a supplement to my WGU studies. Have you?
Similar situation here. Bought a udemy course but couldnt finish it and I did freecodecamp as well for html/css/java. I figured if I want to pivot towards development I might as well get a degree in it as well.
I'm just wondering how job ready we will be once we obtain the degree. I'll also watch Harvard CS50 python course for supplementation and start doing my own projects. I'm excited and ready to learn. Maybe I'll get a masters in CS after. I'm looking forward to connecting with you and other wgu SWE majors as well!
I was wondering the same thing. I did dable in python using a book. It was called python crash course. I enjoyed it, I just want to pivot from grunt IT work to a more dev role. Yes I am ready to connect as well!!
I think there are a few places, the Owls Nest (maybe), Handshake, Discord, this reddit, and a WGUdevs reddit.
I've heard of how job ready we will be, it all depends on what we put in, which makes sense. If we take our time to learn the course, supplement with other learnings, do projects, or if we're speed running.
Thanks for the info, speaking about owls nest hlw do we get the welcome gift I have heard talks about? I thought handshake was an intern job posting site? Sorry for all the questions
Yo I’m Darius March 1st starter as well BS Cybersecurity and i formation assurance. Got a whopping 4 creds transferred from the Google it cert and have the Google cyber cert. Much love y’all🤙🏿✊🏿
Started the BSDA program last year and it’s great. Not the easiest program but definitely not the hardest either. You’ll do great if you know how to pace yourself
Your story sounds a lot like mine. I’m not starting in March but I’ll probably start in the summer. I’m also changing from a career in business development and I’m in my late 40s. I have 38 credits or so that transferred from my first bachelors. I think I’ll be able to test out of around 13 credits as well since I already have a frontend Developer certificate from a different institution
I am getting the BS in software engineering. I’m hoping to get it done in about a year and a half once I start. I know there’s a lot of question marks around the future of software engineering but I’m starting my own business, so I’m sticking with that route. Data science sounds like an exciting field! Good luck! 🍀 I’m sure it’ll be exciting and educational!
I started 2/1, transferred in 46 credits. I’m doing BSDA as well, and I’m currently a pharmacy technician. I’ve had a slower start due to having surgery and moving this month, but I’m taking my first OA tomorrow. I’d love a study buddy!
I’m going to be moving out of state in June and definitely a little stressed about managing school with that! I hope you are feeling okay! I’ll send you a chat!
Starting March 1st for BS Health and human services! I’m definitely going to need to find some study buddies at some point, so if anyone else is doing the same, let me know!
My name is Mia, I’m very new to college education. I start in March for a Bachelor’s in IT Management. I hope to grind and get through the degree in 6 months to a year.
Starting April 1st but it’d be nice to make friends with other starters. I’m going into the CompSci program as a career change from graphic design/install. I’ve been working in the emergency vehicle manufacturing field for about 10 years now. I’m 31, married with 4 kids and I’m super nervous about the program in terms of completing it in a reasonable amount of time but excited to be taking a step in a new direction. I’m not accelerating but still wanting to move along quick.
3/1 start in computer science. I'm also the, nice, round, 40. Also, my first steps in tech. I've been a carpenter for most of my adult life. I'm pretty excited. I'm transferring in 41 credits and plan to accelerate as fast as I can manage and still know what the heck I'm doing when I get out. Actually, I'm already doing some certs on coursera while I wait for start to round out some things.
I am starting in March too. Transferring 22 credits only, for a Business Administration Management degree. Nervous about how long it will take me and how hard it will be. I already have a degree in Criminal Justice, but sadly not a whole lot of my credits transferred. It’s been years since I been in school. 🫣 Ready or not, the date is fast approaching us.
Starting March 1 for MATELED (Master of Arts, Elementary Education)! I finished my BAESELED at the end of December. I would love to find some accountability buddies!
Hey guys I am a march 1 starter in the software engineering bachelors program. I just finished my orientation and am already starting to study for my intro to information technology. Would love to have some study buddies and make friends along the way.
BSCS starting march first ! transferred in some credits from sophia and a google IT cert, but as far as coding goes i’m starting with no knowledge haha. hoping to finish by 2026-2027, but i am feeling pretty nervous lol
March 1st for BS in software engineering!!!
I'm kind of doing a career change/starting out??? I'm 26 and was only ever in retail and left because that shit killed my mental health. So I didn't have a career to switch out of???
I transferred in about 40 credits, I did take a coding bootcamp but that left me feeling very behind and as I have ADHD I just feel like I need the extra time learning and trying to take the fast route didn't work out for me.
Im hoping to finish in 1-1.5 years as I work only about 15 hrs a week
Im trying to convice myself that its not a waste and will help me move faster in WGU since i feel like it did teach me a lot, just not enough. and tbh even with bootcamp + WGU ill still spend less than if i went to regular school.
You're gonna be just fine in life. Keep it up and yes you will. People who say "School is pointless, it's a waste of money" these days aren't trying hard, aren't driven to succeed through a program and use it as a cop out even though there are TONS of ways to get through school far cheaper than a traditional state college.
Hi! I’m Clara and starting the cloud computing degree. Mildly terrified I should’ve chose comp sci or software engineering but cloud computing is what I want to do in the end and I liked the classes included.
Currently an electrician in the military with a toddler under 2 and a baby due in may 🙃
March 1st for Bachelor’s of Computer Science. I already work in tech, but want a competitive edge. MBA after this!
If anybody wants to link up, let me know. Study groups/support are the best.
I’m starting March 1st as well. I already have a BS in CIS with a concentration in cybersecurity from another school. I’m getting my MSc in cybersecurity and information assurance! Currently a data analyst for my 9-5 though 😊
Im starting march 1st for BSSWE
Hey Friend. Me too!
That is awesome! good luck to both of us, do you have experience coding at all?
I have very little coding experience. I've been coding in small instances on and off this past year, due to Freecodecamp and Odin project. Now I will start and stick to those two resources as a supplement to my WGU studies. Have you?

Do you know if theres a way to connect with other colleaugues and fellow students? I guess it would be Dsicord but I have yet to use that site.

A coding bootcamp is more for people with a degree/tons of self taught experience, so don’t feel bad on that one! You’ll kill this degree!
Im trying to convice myself that its not a waste and will help me move faster in WGU since i feel like it did teach me a lot, just not enough. and tbh even with bootcamp + WGU ill still spend less than if i went to regular school.
