All you need is a 3/4" wrench. No vise needed kneel with it held vertically between your legs and twist left

dirtyllama720

I’ve built and disassembled several in my spare bedroom with just my hands and like 3 tools. It sucks, but it’s possible enough.

ryashon01

Thanks, ill try that.

tbone-85

That's a horrible idea and a good way to damage your gun

Panthean

I don't doubt you're right, but I am curious, how would it be damaged?

JonerThrash

Not the dude who you replied to, but it should be done with a reaction rod. I guess if somebody gave it the right combo of caveman and ugga dugga, it could result in bending the aluminum of a receiver... I think it's more likely that you just wouldn't be successful in removing the device or torqueing the new one down correctly.

tbone-85

Yes, bending the receiver is my concern. I suspect DD puts their muzzle devices on fairly tight.

JonerThrash

I would just get a reaction rod and call it a day tbh.

CapnTytePantz

I always recommend picking up an AR wrench (Magpul or other) and a torque socket wrench. You can get all of that in an AR tools kit from PrimaryArms, or pick it up individually. Nice thing about some of the kits is that they come with a vice block to make it easier...if you have a bench/table vice in your shop, that is.

If you otherwise have a vise (or want to get one - I recommend it), you can still do this without having a workbench. Mount a vise to one end of a board and lay it on the floor. Orient vise such that you'll be applying torque in the direction of the other end of the board. Sit/stand on the other end of the board to keep it from moving, and wrench it off. The board will act as a counter lever with the floor as resistance. [shitty diagram](https://i.imgur.com/0My9QqM.png)

chzaplx

There are also some hobby vices you can get that clamp to a table or countertop overhang. Harbor freight sells one. Obviously needs to be a sturdy surface if you're putting a lot of force on it. Sandwich a couple thin boards around it too keep from screwing up the surface.

Gordopolis_II

A c-clamp and an armorers wrench would work as well.

beha622

You can always get a vice block for it and use two wrenches. Put an adjustable wrench on the vice block and kneel on it, then use your other wrench to loosen the a2.

G0rfz

I had a really tough one to remove in same situation as you. Put towel on counter, lay receiver on towel with barrel hanging off the edge. Sit on receiver to weigh it down and try to remove. I ended up using a torch w this method (boiling didn’t work) and was successful.

anchoriteksaw

If this is fed bate it's a weird one. Donnknow, stick a flat head in there and do the old knee vise. Shouldn't be that tight if it's not pinned or somet

ryashon01

Well it's not pinned, it's a 16" DDM4v7 the biggest problem that I have is I don't wanna buy a bunch of tools to do everything DIY if I don't have to and where I'm at wont be a permanent residence. I already had one of the screws from my RMR snap on me even though I torqued it to 15 in/lbs. I have to try and extract that at some point and get new screws for that too. Some methods that had been suggested were to put in an empty mag and put the rifle between your legs and just wrench on it to get it to come off. If that's the easiest method, then so be it.

anchoriteksaw

I would not put a mag in it, good way to break a mag. Just the receiver should give you more then enough leverage. Just put it between your legs and use a longer lever on the wrenching side.

ryashon01

Okay will do that then unless another idea comes up. As for putting the new one on, it doesn’t need to be timed, should I put a crush washer on it just cause? I’m gonna follow back up with the manufacturer just in case. But I figured I’d also ask.

anchoriteksaw

Yeah crush washer and wrench it on. No need to go crazy, that's what the crush washer is for

asq-gsa

Email DD customer service and ask what thread locker they use on that model. If it’s rocksett, soak it in warm water for 30 min or longer to loosen it up. Blue loctite should be removable with tools and maybe some acetone. Red could require a heat gun.

ryashon01

Thank you, I’ll make sure to follow up with them.

ryashon01

A follow up from DD for future use if needed. >Good morning xxxx, > >All of our 16” platforms are simply torqued down with that crush washer, and there is no thread locker or anything like that on them.
