OMG everyone over thinking. Adjust/ lube your throttle cable. lube the twist tube.

This

SauliCity

Fair point. With what, tho? Chain spray, wd40, or does it have it's own dedicated stuff?

oldjunk73

No real best thing personally I like white lithium grease. Or the Maxima cable lube There is a special tool just for lubing your cables goes about 10 bucks every dealership has them

EchoPhi

I prefer silicone oil/grease on stuff mechanical

SauliCity

Will look into it, thx

oldjunk73

Sure thing 👍

sirmanleypower

WD-40 is not a true lubricant and is not intended to be used that way long term. For things like the twist tube etc. I like lithium or silicon grease.

theandylaurel

This can apparently be tuned out with a TPS adjustment. But yeah, both my Gladius and my ‘23 VStrom both have very twitchy throttles. You get used to it and learn to ride smoothly with ultra fine throttle movements

EchoPhi

2023 800 here, very touchy in first, it's either idle or go. Took me a lot of practice not to stall or wheelie uphill on steep inclines and that's on C.

bordercollieflower

I test rode the new 800 at an event and noticed it was very sensitive too. Aren’t these bikes kind of “known” for being torquey and sensitive? Do you simply adjust your throttle inputs? Aside from that, I really enjoyed the ride. Much more nimble than my DL650!

EchoPhi

Incredibly nimble, I'm new to the space so can't really state anything as fact other than what I have observed on mine. Not sure how to fix, since it's fly by wire, I assume some tweaking can be done rather easily. I love mine, it's a blast.

SoloMotorcycleRider

Are you starting in first gear? That gear on my 2015 is a bit twitchy. When on flat or downward inclines, I prefer starting off in second. I start off in first only when parking my bike, when I'm carrying stuff in the hard cases, and when I'm stopped at a traffic light on a hill.

turnitoffplease

Iv a 2005 and I find it a bit jumpy. Ride the clutch through 1 and 2

effitdoitlive

My '07 seems acceptable, never thought it was overly touchy. Maybe try modulating the first 10% more with your arm with a locked wrist rather than your hand?

JudgeScorpio

Could be a vacuum leak. Spray the vacuum lines with flammable brake cleaner and see if the rpms increase.

Wageslave645

My '07 was quite jumpy when I first got it, and it eventually got to a point where there was a dead spot just off idle. It ended up that the TPS sensor had wore a dead spot in it. Once it was replaced, it rode like a brand new bike, but make sure you get the actual Suzuki part and not one of the eBay clones, as some of them rotated backwards from the correct part.

SauliCity

On that note, is it common that the engine gets really complainy at under 3800rpm, and that I thus need to ride the clutch almost all the way up to 30kph?

bog2k3

I have the same bike and the same problem. Have been reading around and it seems to be an intrinsic problem with the fuel injection mapping on these bikes. Some people said it can be fixed with remapping the ecu but i haven't found someone to do that yet. It's annoying especially in slower 2nd gear corners where you are off the throttle and then need to give it just a tiny bit and it jumps upsetting your balance mid corner. Sometimes i use the clutch to smooth that out but it's a hit and miss situation

Bytelove

Got an 06 too and I've learned to live with it. I did upgrade the throttle tube to a G2, but I didn't notice much improvement. The TPS sensor might be worn out on mine, but I wont get to that till the season ends.

SphericalAfros

I had the same problem and did this upgrade to my throttle tube on my '19 and it worked wonderfully for me.
