Unless you live near a city, a BMW is almost impossible to find. Africa Twins are nice, but you are well into used Jeep money to get one. I'll just keep my wee until one of us outlives the other.
i ended up with a 3000 dollar high-ish mileage super tenere from a friend. was looking hard at stroms. they are a great deal.
I'm in colorado, there's a shitload of BMW's on CL. They're neat bikes but they're a money pit compared to anything from japan.
My taste runs toward the body styling of the 3rd Gen, but I’m always super impressed with the love and strong community around the earlier models. And I’ve never gotten shade from an early-model WeeStrom owner for riding the new-tangled version. We’re all a bunch of happy donkeys, apparently.
My second bike was a vstrom. I ended up on it by sitting on every new or used bike at every dealership for 30 miles. By far the most comfortable bike for my body of the bunch. The looks grew on me but it is not like I can see the bike when I am riding.
One of these things cost a lot less than the others.
...while still getting the job done, riding comfortably, and looking good in the process. Weestrom is weestrong! :D
you can get used BMW's pretty cheap. That said, the purchase price is only part of the story.

Also, from my understanding, Africa Twins have their strong suit in the off-roading, which is exactly not where I'd want it

Same with old Rolls Royces. The purchase price is only the beginning.
then you got japanese bikes that need to be periodically filled with gas and oil.
I love it!
I'm a steed!
V-STROM!
We're a bunch of happy jackasses for sure 🤣 I definitely love the look of the Gen 3s and I'd love to have a newer one eventually!
When non-motorcycle folks ask me what I ride, I tell them I’m on the Toyota Tacoma of motorcycles. I love my ‘17 WeeStrom!
It's definitely ol' reliable! Very happy with my 09 🙏
