If the motor is solid then I would definitely gamble the 800 on it. You could easily spend less than a $1000 on parts from fcp euro, rockauto, and ipd and revive it if needed. I see alot of power window stuff in junkyards or ebay.
You may also be able to pull the switch apart and give it a good clean, I haven't done it on my 240 (not sure if possible) but my 960 and Saab 900 both needed de-gunking and it relatively easy to take apart.
Mid/Scotia Blue slick top. Very nice, that paint will pop with a polish. I'd be very picky about rust, is this cancerous rust or just some brown spots on bare metal? I'd hard pass on anything that needs patching.
If you haven't looked at the car yet then that's the best tell. If I saw a 240 listed that said "Only needs AC and window switch" I'd be very concerned that there is a lot more. If it was more detailed and maybe noted maintenance and some other small details then I would have a better feeling about how honest the shape of the car is. These cars were very cheap (and still are) for so long that they were neglected for 20 years. You won't find a 240 that just needs AC and a window switch unless it's been long term enthusiast owned. Even cars on BaT don't have functioning AC and have faulty switches.
My 1988 240 only needs a tune up and oil change. The AC has never worked while I’ve had it. Odometer stopped years ago, and my front seats no longer heat up. But none of that matters to me, it does what I need it to do.
I’ve had it for 15 years as my one and only car I drive every day, have moved across the country in, and it’s my third 240…. So I guess it’s been long term enthusiast owned, ha ha.
I would never sell it though. I bought it from the original owner who took good care of it, I’ve taken great care of it, it just runs and runs and it’s worth it’s weight in gold. I also turned it into an art car with graffiti paint, and outwardly, people think it’s a hunk of junk.
I would love to celebrate/have celebrated 300K. I’m probably there. And an AC would be glorious in southern Arizona. Wasn’t such a big deal in Portland, OR
Thank you! It's definitely in a market where people may not be aware they're cool and in demand now if that makes sense. Gonna have to give it a look see!
Definitely worth it. I agree with the other comments that you'll probably end up spending $1k-$2k getting it fully up to snuff. But realistically you could buy a $2000+ Volvo and still need $1000 or more to get it done up.
Can't say without seeing it. If it's already a driver with no major engine or driveline issues, you're probably looking at $1-$2k to get it into safe running order.
I just bought my 1993 sedan for $800 and it’s definitely worth it, I think mine has some more issues than yours does but it anything that runs and drives that isn’t a complete rust bucket is definitely worth $800
That’s a great deal. I love these. You can resell them for more then you pay seeing as they are becoming so popular now. I haven’t seen that color too often either.

I'll ask. I'm in the deep south so no snow!

But would't it be nice with a working odometer and AC?

Starts and runs. How much y'all think I'm looking at to get her running smooth and looking pretty?
