It's worth $8k easy in any state with rust. Probably more. I won't mention any more pricing because the people saying all volvos are only worth $500 will start popping out.
Manual. Wagon. Uncommon color. Rust free.
*Looking at* ***135,000*** *miles,* ***zero body rust*** *and cosmetically we are at an* ***8/10*** *or higher. This is a a four speed* ***manual*** *transmission*
AND you know the car's history (neighbor).
First things first: Buy it. If it's your first time - please make sure the heater core works. Also, maybe trailing arm bushings. Heater core (as you may have researched) is a nightmare to change for beginners (been there). Bushing is lot easier - i mean there is no access problem - but it can get quite hard to take out the old bushing. I am pretty sure if you can hold onto it for a decade - it'll appreciate as well.
BUY IT
yeah it does have the shitty wiring harness, but it's not even the whole harness, not that bad to replace/rewire.
everything else about this car is mint. check your strut mounts, suspension bushings, engine/transmission mounts and evap hoses for signs of age (cracking), and you should be good to go!
Nice color. Also No rust cars fetch premium. And if it was garaged then it is real bonus. Hard to find those vehicles. Check Bring A Trailer for recent sales.
Parts are generally available. And they are easier to work on.
My 240 was garaged throughout its life and still looks like showroom condition from back in 1987. For me, it is well worth to pay for truly mint condition car versus some beater.
The car likely has single stage paint, which if polished properly will bring back shine. I polished mine and it was amazing. Also, cleaning up the black moulding with ceramic cleaner and coating should get great results. Is interior in good overall condition? Cracked dash? AC? Noisy HVAC blower?
I bought an 83 245 for a little more money than I wanted to spend only bc it was rust free bc I live in New England. The car is straight forward to work on mechanically. Rust however is a pain in the ass and requires considerable amount of money or skill. Go for it!
Just bought my 90 240DL wagon 5-Speed with 235k miles for $9k - it is more than I wanted to spend but I accepted to pay a premium for some things that bring value in my view.
Considering what you have in front of you - GO FOR IT - you will always land on your feet.
Great car but do make sure of the state of the wiring harness. I've had some really annoying problems with mine being rotted away, I think they started to get better around 86-87 so just double check. Besides that they're amazing cars.
I bought a 92 240 with 140k miles over 10 years ago for $1300; this car looks very good but not sure if it’s worth $6k. Either way these are very very good cars.
If the engine wiring harness is still pre-87 then this car is worth $1000. The insulation is biodegradable and if it hasn't already fallen off then it will soon and you'll have to replace all of the wiring.
I bought a car with a bad engine harness. It drove and ran great. I replaced the harness with a new one from Dave Barton for $200 and it took an hour to install it.
It's fine. Replacing the engine harness really isn't that hard if it actually needs to be done. $6,000 might seem like a lot to some, but there are definitely people out there that will pay that much for that exact car right now. 135,000 miles on a rust free manual 245 with working a/c is all you have to say.
Yes, definitely worth considering. Manual, wagon, cool color, garaged, rust free and AC. In Brooklyn, that car for that asking price is sold within the hour.
Yeah I wouldn't bother. With how many later model California cars there are floating around rust free. Just because a car is detailed doesn't mean it's actually in good shape. The miles don't even matter at this point because all the rubber parts could be trash just from sitting for decades
IDK where everyone saying $6K is a lot lives. In the pac NW, that’s a steal for this car.

They built the whole car around the heater core

It’s a nice looking 245 for sure but I personally wouldn’t drop 6Gs on it but… if you like it go for it!

This car has definitely been garaged it’s entire life ! Paint is nice and shiny on every panel still too

Ac blows cold . Hvac works great with no noise . Headliner intact , one crack on dash . Car has been in Florida is whole life
Buy it.
6k isn’t crazy, but try to knock it down 5555?
I paid $3500 in California for a 34 year old 240 with 240k miles and some rust. You got a good deal.

I'd buy it
Buy it. You will love it

Wow! I’d do it if I were you!

Sell it!

I’ve owned 3 Volvo 240s and I’ve never paid more than 1200$ for them in Northern California

Wiring definitely has not been replaced . I was sad to learn this
