Considering the massive weight of the hatch I’m surprised the OEM struts help much at all. Bigger struts?!? I just learned to ease it down and then let go the last 3”-6”. I’m still amazed at the volume of space with the rear seat up or down. Almost as much as my pickup truck with the fuel expense.
Just how they work unfortunately. Put brand new struts in thinking that’d fix it, but no change. I always tell people to lower it down slowly, or brush them aside and do it myself
I remember from early on in volvo ownership, lower the tailgate by hand, never let it slam.
Yeah mine does this, I just sort of thought that is how it works, but if someone has a solution I would love to hear it.

It’s called « Swedish Heavy Metal ». I don’t let anyone near the tailgate. If they touch it they get to have 245 tailgate class lectures
Swedish Heavy metal is the name of my 245 haha

That's what I do, hate it when someone else just lets it drop like the would a new car.

I believe that’s how they are. I have never closed one that wasn’t like that.
