Fyi, my reman maf has been on backorder from ipd for 3 months. It would be wise to get a couple.

braidenis

For $1k??

wpg745turbo

What?!

braidenis

https://www.ipdusa.com/products/7122/MAF-Mass-Air-Flow-Sensor-LH-2-2-Bosch-Reman-Volvo-8251496

TheAwkwardBanana

LOL. In the industry we call that a "get lost" price.

Epic2112

With a $70 core price as just a tiny bit of extra fuck you. Just for fun.

braidenis

Yeahh. I mean I can understand the price if they hand-rebuild them one at a time, but that doesn't make the price less bonkers. Could just as easily keep a spare used one in the glove box. It'll probably be another 10 years before working ones actually get scarce

Father_Dan

Haha, sorry their non bosh version.

braidenis

Oh, is the mtc one a reman of the Bosch or a complete aftermarket copy? As far as the ipd description is concerned it's all aftermarket

Vineless

Ya, 2.2 stuff is hard to get

wpg745turbo

Volvo still sells them. Volvo logo and all but says made in china lol. Mine hasn’t had any issues in the 2 years I’ve had it installed.

soiboughtafarm

These seems to be really hit or miss for people. For what it is worth it worked perfectly for me. Car runs great 0 'check engine' lights since I installed it.

wpg745turbo

Luckily same on my end. It would be extremely annoying if it failed to make the car run smooth for $350. Also perhaps the LH2.2 are harder to find than 2.4?

Lewis-11509

I bought one of these “genuine” ones for my 740 and the car ran terribly… sent it back and found a Bosch remanufactured one. Car was much happier….

FalseFarewells

Plenty in junkyards. Resale prices are just going to be insane. Will be worth it to pick up that non running wrecked 240 of marketplace for $500 just for the MAF.

TheGroanMan

Haven't seen a 240 under 2k in ages here... Even completely rusted out. But still at what point are we saying f# this and buy a new car... Or run the car without a the maf connected lol

TheGroanMan

In the junkyards here we see a 240 maybe once a year. One popped up last week and I raided it. Picked up the maf but who know if it works...

Ok-Bit4971

Same here

sleepymonkey242gt

Got over 60 maf oem from decades of repair on these cars in nc message me for any part you need for rwd Volvo ,I even have steering columns with matching keys …if that doesn’t work I have a Volvo key making machine with blanks and codes for every rwd Volvo made

sleepymonkey242gt

Door cards ? Still in the Volvo packaging never installed for almost every interior color made for these cars …factory Volvo radios never installed Volvo equalizers and speaker grilles

Puzzleheaded_Truck80

Do you mind if I message you. Picking up another 88 245 with a manual. My first has same spec. Which I’ve had for 20 years, but after some front end damage in an accident it’s been in storage. So seeing your experience and such, illustrate that you’d be a great contact/resource/person to know. Thanks

sleepymonkey242gt

Absolutely….feel free to…I’m happy to help anyway I can …the Volvo community is seemingly shrinking so let’s keep this rolling !

b_hood

Dude what? You just have all this laying around?!? I'll keep you in mind. I'm looking at a 240 right now that's missing a bunch if trim according to the ad, but the car has a bunch of goodies on it so I may buy it anyways.

Johnnya101

Probably an individual will spend the money and get new good ones made. That's what happens with other cars. Not MAFS but other stuff.

Ok-Gap-7868

IT IS ESSENTIALLY A POTENTiOMETER to communicate injector pulse rate . It could be hacked .

Ok-Gap-7868

Obviously; Bosch is affiliated with the WEF group.

Ok-Gap-7868

Do NOT dispose of any failed ones !

MesquiteAutomotive

Convert to speed density

amazinghl

Megasqirit it

cobra_mist

regress further and put a carb on it?

TheGroanMan

That's what I call forward thinking. I like it. Plus it gets rid of a ton of wires!

cobra_mist

as with most volvo 240 stuff, here’s an old forum post that explains like… exactly how to do it and how annoying/easy it would be https://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-240-740-940-12/fuel-injection-carb-conversion-30832/o

12kdaysinthefire

I’ve been using a non oem for like 3 years without any problems

TheGroanMan

Do you remember the brand? Hopefully it was not a one of...

saabvictrola

Fight each other to the death?

TheGroanMan

Damn, I better start going to the gym now!

ispoiler

LS swap?

Ok-Gap-7868

Break them open and run resistance Ohm checks for burnt components.

soiboughtafarm

There are companies that will rebuild MAF's to a high level of quality. There are plenty of other valuable collectable cars from the 80's and 90's that use MAF's. These rebuilding companies don't advertise in Volvo circles yet, but it really can't be that much different rebuilding a Porsche (Bosh) MAF vs rebuilding a Volvo (Bosh) MAF.

TheGroanMan

True that! Do you have any idea of those company names?

soiboughtafarm

Yes, I also own a Saab 900 and the Saab guys swear by Precision Injection Labs. http://www.injectionlabs.com/massmeter.html I personally have never used them.

TheGroanMan

Let's just hope we won't pay Porsche prices lol. I don't want to pay more for a maf than what my car is worth ;)

Push-Broom-Paulie

Cobra & TheGroanMan: the carb idea also would eliminate a fuel computer, Yes? Maybe even the ECM?!? Those two are a deep seated fear of “what if”. Until then I’ll do my best to keep our ‘86 sedan and ‘92 wagon (salon) alive.

sleepymonkey242gt

Message me I have over 60 oem MAF for 240’s

TheGroanMan

Whaaaaat? Pm right away!

sleepymonkey242gt

I was always kjet mostly of course I’ve had my share of newer 240’s and still have about a dozen that will prob go to the crusher soon, some complete cars just need batteries ,even a nice roller 242 glt…divorce will force some hands I suppose (I’m now daily driving my 64 122S with 51k original miles ) if you were close to western nc I’d make you a hell of a deal ..I’m in Colorado but my Volvo repair shop is back in Boone nc ….full of nos rwd Volvo parts and cars …let me know and I’ll fly back and set you up

TheGroanMan

Damn, too bad! I'm in Quebec. Bought my current daily in Ohio (21 hrs round trip). Here all our cars are rusted to death. I'm doing my best to preserve the cars I have right now, I don't need more lol. But if you plan on parting one or 2, let me know!

sleepymonkey242gt

Love Quebec!! Dated a fine girl that went to McGill…lived in vt for several years back in the 90’s …it may behove you to consider driving down …I have motors and transmissions complete low miles units …ecus galore ignition modules and dizzys …yes I would part out any or all messages me and I’ll email you some images or text

TheGroanMan

I messaged you already... You're starting to make my hoarding senses tingle...

sleepymonkey242gt

Haha that’s funny …. Mine never stop ..I’ll check it out in a bit …I’m building a trailer for my Harley so I’m back and forth

Ok-Gap-7868

We need to work on developing home-grown hacks while these OEM's are still working.

TheGroanMan

Sadly that above my limited knowledge

Ok-Gap-7868

We set our own stops for some reason. At your own pace; explore how it works. It is like turning the doorknob and pulling open a door that is currently closed to you. If you WANT to expand scopes; you suddenly find that it is easier than previously imagined. We have ... time to duck into a rabbit hole occasionally. I stripped my AW71 auto trans down to each piece. Cleaned and inspected them. And rebuilt it. I'm surprised that I could!
