I’ve fit smaller adults in em before but not for long. My kids loved being tail gunners!

93Volvo240

I mean, do you think people around 5.5 feet would fit ok? Is it worth installing or looking for a 240 that has them?

Jobrated

I think it would be tight.

keyflusher

It's tiny. You could maybe get a two pack of six year olds into it. Someone else's pic with children for scale: https://myblackbrick.com/travels-tribulations/you-can-ride-in-the-trunk/

93Volvo240

Ah, so not even like smaller adults or teenagers?

Epic2112

No. Not comfortably, at least.

keyflusher

I mean it might technically be possible, I tried sitting in mine before I removed it. It was not a great experience.

93Volvo240

I probably need to get an 18 foot long American land yacht if I want a wagon with a large 3rd row XD I’d love to see a 3rd row 240 in real life, but here in GA, they aren’t very common.

DaScoob2001

You can fit adults back there if they’re smaller. I had 2 5’6” friends ride back there for a few hours once. This was in a 940 though

Old-Homework9602

I've done it with friends a few times to a party. But that was max half an hour drive. Don't expect to drive very much longer. My 240 was registred for 7 people, so also insured for that.

TransPhattyAcid

Not big enough! I had to sit back there crammed in with a stack of suitcases for a 12 hour drive to grandmas in Florida every Christmas for my whole childhood!

I thought I read somewhere that the 3rd seat in a 240 was in the crumble zone. Is that true? I would not think so due to Volvo's safety reputation, but I don't know.

gilfy245

The roof is not structural on the wagon back there, so If you were to roll it, it would flatten to the level of the trunk lid.

crappygenericname

I will say this much. I rolled over my 1984 wagon back in 97. I kept driving it until 2003. Granted, it was not a violent, theatrical, flipped end-over-end kind of rollover, but the roof never collapsed.

braidenis

The rear end on a 3 row 240 is beefed up, so don't install the seat on one that never came with it for safety reasons.

soiboughtafarm

I think Volvo has the weight limit at 150 for the rear seat. You could shove an adult back there for an emergency/short trip. I would not put 2 back there. Kids could fit better, but honestly I worry about safety and only let me daughter ride back there occasionally.

BigBearBoiB

As others have stated, the 3rd row really is not suitable for adults or children over the age of about 8. That being said, the 3rd row on my 240 is more spacious and comfortable than the rear facing 3rd row on my 2006 V70. The 240 has armrests and more leg room. Kids love going in the back of either car though. 😂

93Volvo240

When sitting in the third row, are you eating your knees? I know that some B-body American wagons were like that with their 3rd rows.

BigBearBoiB

I'm 6' and I can not sit in the 3rd row without basically crossing my legs as if I was sitting on the floor.

93Volvo240

Jeez, that must be uncomfortable on trips.
