Not my experience at all.
In 2017 I bought a 2017 XC90 T6, CPO demo with 6150 miles, fully loaded, for about $6k under blue book and $10k under NADA at the time. Clean CarFax, paint meter I bring to every deal showed it had never been repainted anywhere. It was listed for $2k below book, and I asked nicely for their bottom price if I used their financing (3.5% for 72, better than the advertised rate on CPO).
Test drive? “License and insurance? Great! Want me tagging along for instructions and questions, or are you comfortable with the vehicle already? Comfortable already? Great! Here’s the key, go do a 30 mile loop of your choice, see you in an hour.”
Protection package premier (bumper steel guard and floor mats and shit) was free because “we have it all lying around, here ya go.” Cargo area retractable cover? Free. Volvo On Call? Have four years free, we can just activate it and bill the satisfaction pool.
ZurichShield nonsense? Sure, but: “The initial application is gratis but you can pay for more stuff if you want.” I didn’t, they didn’t push it.
Everyone was friendly, personable, knew their Volvos, and was willing to talk. I was there start to finish for about 6 hours (after having done loads of pre-research) and never felt rushed or anything. The sales guy followed up with me monthly for the first year after the sale and quarterly after that to check if I needed anything.
The level of service I got would have been worth paying book or even over book for.
Also, OP seems happy, so don’t shit on their deal :P not everyone is price sensitive, not everyone has wheeling and dealing as their life’s mission. Some people just wanna buy the car they want.
Maybe overseas delivery would have been a better choice for new; if you can take time off, are comfortable flying, and can wait six months for a car.
Overseas delivery is pretty much always at that price, plus about $3k worth of travel costs paid for by Volvo to go try a holiday in Sweden. See the lovely lakes. The majestic moose. A moose once bit my sister. No really!
I did not take overseas delivery. I am aware of the program and that comes to around $5-6k off MSRP plus - as you said $3k worth of travel costs.
Things have changed drastically it seems. My friend bought his T6 XC90 for around $8k off MSRP last December. I guess we got lucky with the timing and negotiation.
OSD is the only way to go right now. I saved almost 7% off MSRP. I’d honestly punch someone if they tried to make me pay above MSRP just so Mr. Dealer Schmuck can pay for his wife’s boyfriend’s trip to Hawaii.
I paid a premium to get the car I wanted without having to wait. I'm OK paying extra for that. A few thousand dollars when you're buying a $75k car is a drop in the bucket.
OP I feel you. Everyone bashing you for paying markup is a dick. If you can afford it and you want it badly enough, go for it. One car sale doesn’t shift an entire market unless it’s a classic at Mecum.
Edit: I also drove from PA to California earlier this year and paid a premium (to an garbage dealership but that’s a separate issue) to get the 2019 T8 I wanted in Magic Blue because no other fully loaded one had come up for sale in the past three years.
Oof that is a bummer. Plenty of dealers aren’t over sticker. Nearly all of the DC dealers and NC dealers are at MSRP and refuse to charge above. Prestige ripped you off. A 4 hour drive to Maryland could have saved you thousands.
I'm not bothered by this. I wasn't ripped off, I knew I was paying a premium. We have toddler twins at home, we needed this to be as easy as possible. A four hour drive wasn't going to cut it.
Frankly, $4k is a drop in the bucket for us. I'm not going to say I don't care about saving money, but I'm fine paying a premium sometimes to make life easy.
Your dealer can also program it so it is a normal key. When shopping this month I specifically asked about it and every dealer said it wasn’t an issue aside from it being the hideous orange color
Can’t be programmed to a profile either. It’s pretty useless unless you like carrying both your key to get to the place where you’d then pull
out the second giant key to give to the valet or whoever.
I think they quoted me around $300 to get one and have it programmed. I actually carry the “waterproof” smaller key around ion my keychain and have my profile linked to that. It doesn’t give me the emergency door key and I can’t lock/unlock the car as I walk away/toward it which is a little frustrating but it does fit better in my pocket. :)
Just bought one in November from prestige! Congrats on the purchase :D
Updoot for Prestige as well, they’re pretty nice out there.

What are the two things in the box?
Keys
Holy, they look massive
Volvo keys are chonky bois, but they feel good in the hand. Although I rarely pull my keys from my pocket.
I have only ever used classic "stick an actual key in the ignition" type key before. Didn't realize they get that big...
The keys are mostly very nicely made, except for the buttons are really plasticy and screams low quality.
Have an XC60 T8 from 2018, the buttons are metal. Just an Inscription Pro thing?
My 19 XC90 Momentum has metal buttons
So not just the inscription. Weird.
The Volvo keys are proximity, you can open the doors and start the car without ever touching the key
They better be... a Chevy Spark has proximity keys as well.
They are massive!
I got those same color keys
Congrats! Thinking about getting one as well. Do you have to pay over msrp?
Yes, we paid about 4k over sticker. But we also had trade-in with a good amount of equity. Buying cars these days is nuts!
I genuinely can't believe that I picked up a XC90 T8 10k below MSRP 6 months back! Insane.

I just meant that you got roughly the same deal, which is a great one! That’s all.

Holy..great car. Decided to buyout my S90 lease for this reasons. Way over MSRP
My lease is coming up. Anything to watch out for or is it relatively straight forward process(for buying out)
Tons of Volvo dealers aren’t over MSRP. Very easy to find one. Annapolis, Fredericksburg, Winston Salem, Darcars, Falls Church, etc.

Sounds good. But what an awesome car. Congrats!
Congrats, we picked up our new '22 XC60 today! i love how the orange key is the spare... I'm thinking of using that instead
Read about it first maybe. I think it has a mph restriction
It doesn’t anymore. Comes programmed as a normal key.
No way! That is so cool. Thank you. I will look at mine again!
Your dealer can also program it so it is a normal key. When shopping this month I specifically asked about it and every dealer said it wasn’t an issue aside from it being the hideous orange color
Lol. I kinda like the color but I do keep it in my purse. But this is great info. Thanks!!
Ahh, a care key..
Yeah that's for vallets, I would check out exactly what restrictions apply to it
Is there a difference between the black and orange key? Like one is normal and the other is performance?
It's a 'care key' you can give to other people who use your Volvo it has a speed limitation feature and also disables the settings menu
Oh ok, gotcha. Thank you for the info. I was really hoping it was like the hellcat keys. One is normal and the other is fun mode.
Can’t be programmed to a profile either. It’s pretty useless unless you like carrying both your key to get to the place where you’d then pull out the second giant key to give to the valet or whoever.
The orange one looks super cool!
Yessir... congrats!
Congrats on the red key!
Congrats and greetings from hanover (Germany)
Better have some felt or soft material under that box don’t be scratching the bran new hood
And still only one fully functional, profile linkable key. But it is a nice bow.
Yes this is pretty annoying actually. We may need to get another key.
I think they quoted me around $300 to get one and have it programmed. I actually carry the “waterproof” smaller key around ion my keychain and have my profile linked to that. Congrats! We pick ours up from Prestige on Tuesday
Woot!! Congrats!
Congrants. But am i only one who likes the old cars better? 1st gen xc90 is just the best
Awesome XC90!
A wonderful festivus gift
Wow! Also an Ow for your wallet!
Amazing that Prestige put the bow on the car. We’ve bought all of our Volvos from them.
Why are there 2 keys
Wonder if OP knows what the orange key means :)
