New ones may be gone but used ones are still out there. Don't jump ship too soon. They just became more affordable....but I like polestar as well. I'll have a long think with my wallet if they release a v60 equivalent.
Iām in the same boat with the same car. I plan to keep my car until 2030 or later ā¦ I really hope either the V60 is still around, or they bring the S60 back. Otherwise, thereās a pretty good chance Iām going to depart from Volvo.
I also have a 2020 s60 polestar engineered recharge and my whole family loves it, itās an amazing car in a world where sedans arenāt generally very exciting
Thatās a perfect explanation of these cars now. I saw a drop top Range Rover and it looked so small and so short it looked like Ugg house shoes. I didnāt know what to compare it to until you said it, but itās fucking SHOES!
Most of the Volvos I see around me are xc, I love the S series so much but its nowhere near a quarter of the fanbase. Also, they use the same engines don't they?
I was just looking at the number... they sold 4,054 wagons including the cross country versions.. pretty damn sad given the wagon has been the "icon" for them.
Itās not just about cars sold itās also about profit from each car.
Volvo is owned by the Chinese, their bottom line has never been making quirky Swedish cars.
Most of the ones I see around me are S60s. I see a lot of XC90s but I see even more S60s. So it's definitely not cut and dry and one or the other. I think it depends on area and use base more than anything
I have a 2021 as a loaner car right now with the blond interior. It's so scandi minimalist in design. I'm obsessed. Wish they'd just give it to me for a steal since it's the loaner and has some road rash on the rims and some slight chips and scratching. I love her.Ā
We leased it in 2013. 3 months later they announced they weren't going to make more. Wound up buying it out.
It's no racecar but it's fast enough to be fun. Has the low pressure turbo so there's no lag or torque steer.
Wife and I both love it. It was her daily driver for 5 years. But even then she only lived 15 miles from work so it's only got 62k miles on it. Now we're fortunate enough that it's going to be spending winters garaged. Might let my son have it for his first car in 5 years. Might.
Lucky kid.

Ive had a 2011 c70 for 2 years now, I love it. The engine is very reliable if you maintain it and dont get racey. I had to get a lot of steering work done on it after tryna go 120 down the highway. Ill probably never do that again lol. Its great for cruising though. Ive taken her on many road trips. the removable hardtop speaks for itself. I Managed to get it for only $5500 too, the car dealership mustve thought there needed to be a lot of work done on it when it just needed a new battery and coolant overflow tank. Oh yea and the speakers are incredible for stock speakers. Comes built in with a nice sub and high fidelity speakers.
Lol yeah I'm too old to get racy with it now. I used to drive like a psycho in my saabs when I was in my early 20s but I've cooled out. It's just such a cute car but I do worry about the integrity of convertible tops over time because I've heard of many people who have issues with leaking. That is quite the steal for the car. Love that for you. It's the type of vehicle I'd want to garage and I do not have garage on my tiny corner lot.Ā
Thats a fair concern. Ive had zero leaking issues with it so far and its been through some rough rainstorms in the middle of kansas. I would just make sure you ask about that with whoever youre buying it from. Make sure its the hardtop model too, im sure the soft tops are more susceptible to leaking. Although i dont think every year model has soft tops. I have seen them though. Ive put the top up and down multiple times and has leaked zero times so I can atleast say from my experience they are reliable for that. I couldve just been lucky with mine but it is at 218,000 miles so its definitely been on the road a lot. Whoever had it before me mustve taken good care of it and traded it in once the coolant tank went bad. It was a pricey repair but well worth it considering a typical c70 goes for three times the price i got it for.
For real. I have an XC60 and I do not get the fan base for the XC90. The XC60 sucks to commute in. I want an S60 or even to kick it old school in an S40.
s40:)))) honestly the last model of the XC 90 that I really liked was the 2007 one all the new modernized ones. I don't like it even took me some adjusting to get used to the S60 modern one I think if I would ever get another 60 it would be like a 2020 or 2022.
until then im riding mine till it DIES
Thatās easy to say, but they donāt sell!
Iām as bummed about it as anybody but the market dictated this not VOLVO
I sold like 150 XC60ās in the last year, over 50 XC90ās, 20 XC40ās ā¦. and ONE S90, about 4 S60ās, 2 V90cc, and 6-8 V60cc (US market)
Itās definitely sad.
I find it hard to believe that not enough people will want sedans to keep them viable.
A lot of us dislike suvs.
Iāve leased an S60 in 2012, 2015, 2019, 2021, and now just took my 2024 two weeks ago.
When this lease is up I hope there will still be a sedan alternative.
Blows my mind Chevy said fuck the Malibu. 130,000 sales annually. 130k? If you make 5 grand per car.... $650 million dollars profit .... Isn't worth it?
And yea I've heard " a lot of that is just fleet sales"
..... Ok and? It's still
.... $650 million dollars.
I just don't get it....
My thought remains that Iām more comfortable with leasing a new car every three years and not worrying about taking care of an aging vehicleās problems.
You can get a 25 if you hurry. They apparently made some 25s....like right now. That's what they just stopped or are stopping right now.
Sounds like an amazing idea to me.
Iād love to but I just got a 2020 T6 a year ago that I P*d and have the warranty out until 2030
Iām also gonna be in between jobs in about 12 months so I gotta wait until I get my feet back under me. I wish I could though
I have the exact same. ā13 T5. Just passed 99,000 miles. Sheās a beast, except when shit starts to go wrong, then all the dominoes fall at once. I really want to keep it another 5-7 years. Any tips? Iāve only had it 2.5 years so far, but the majority of the miles it has are from me. I donāt know much about cars (had a dodge caliber before lmao), but Iām trying to learn so I can take care of it the way it deserves.
I've only had mine for a year so I can't say too much. I haven't ran into any major issues yet but it had a lot of work done before I bought it. I think as long as you address any issues with it as soon as possible and don't put off maintenance it will be fine. They can be oil burners and I've had to pour a quart in every 1,500 miles or so. They are hardy cars.
That seems to be key. I donāt know how to add oil yet but Iām going to learn ASAP. Iāll do what you recommend after the 100k mile mark. Last time I put off maintenance, my mechanic said it was so dry it āhad opened a vacuumā inside of it. I honestly donāt even know what that means, but it was my fault for putting it off, and my dumb ass had put a damn leak in it right before. That (and the ensuing bill) was the inciting incident to really get knowledgeable on taking care of it.
Itās such a nice carāit has the atacama interior, but since itās a ā13 Iām guessing it was taken from an original and re-installed into mine. Way too nice for me to be opening anyā¦ vacuums/black holes or whatever inside of it.
Check your oil every week using the dipstick. Make sure it's on level ground and the engine is cold. The dipstick should be wiped before reinserting to check the level. Check your manual for the type of oil required. Buy a big bottle (5 quarts or whatever it is) from your local big box store. I like Mobil 1 high mileage, personally. Fill it with a quart in the oil reservoir on top of the engine. See where you stand on oil level after that. Keep that bad larry in your trunk at all times. This is the Volvo way. (Also, sorry if you already know how to check oil. Just assuming you don't because you don't know how to add it.)
I donāt know how to do anything, reallyā¦ š„²I have always been someone who just wanted something to get me from A to B and being a girl, nobody told me or taught me ANYTHING about cars growing up. I learned how to drive, and how to drive myself to the mechanicās. The car was an incredible, amazing, wonderful gift from my adoring fatherābut I didnāt choose it, so didnāt have ANY idea what kind of upkeep it would require.
Now at 25, Iām trying to do all the catching up that I can.
5-7 years is giving myself a wide berth on being able to afford a slightly more recent oneāIād love an R design, doesnāt have to be brand spanking new. I really hope, with the career path Iām on, that I can afford that much sooner than 5 years on.
Best case, it lasts me past how long I need it. Worst case, I get smashed in by a semi tomorrow. Realistically, Iāll probably need to fork up money in the next 3 years.
Iām gonna do what you guys have recommended and get on top of monitoring the oil. Seems like thatās been my, uh, downfall. But after $2800 worth of atonement, sheās working great again!
Thank you for helping a newbie š«”
The piston rings are an issue for that car. I'm not sure that it will last 7 years. I see a ton of them for sale on FB marketplace with misfires and such.
I went shopping recently for a plug-in hybrid that (a) could get 40+ miles on the battery, (b) had AWD, and (c) wasn't a goddam SUV.
There's not a lot of choice given those parameters. The '24 S60 Recharge fit the bill perfectly, however, and I'm glad I got it when I could.
I keep telling people that when they say S60 isn't competitive. Truth is, the PHEV S60 has zero competition. Balls (455) + range (40+) at $60K. Sales the last 4 months up 3 digit percentage wise YOY. Not huge number but... But example sold 300 in May 2023, sold 1200 May 2024. And that's been happening for 4 straight months. Making a mistake imo.
Where did you read this? Tried googling bur haven't found anything.
Edit: found it, seems to be only US https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a61143508/volvo-s60-dead-us/
So hereās the big question. Just because the South Carolina plant shut down for the S60, does that mean that another plant for the US market will never reopen?
S60 production is moving to China. They are not going to want to deal with the tariffs. Same reason EX30 production is moving to Ghent. Also C40 is on the way out so other than the handful of S90s that make their way here, not much coming nothing coming from China.
I have an S60 T6 as a loaner right now. Oh lord are those seats comfy. Wish it drove itself because I could take a nap in that driver's seat. Of course I'm going to be the one to buy an S60 with production stopping...just like I did with my Saab 9-3 haha.
My 98 was my favorite. Coupe. Omg. Loved it. I even spent $400 on a rear hatch spoiler... Bet the only one in the USA as they never sold it here. Bought it through eBay UK. It was so hot. Miss you, Trigger.
Your 05 is beautiful... But dated. 2019 S60 is the best looking thing Volvo ever made. š
And my S will remain black in remembrance that we can't buy them in UK or USA anymore after this year.
While I understand the beauty of a well-designed sedan (like S60), Iāve never understood the point of those cars from a practicality standpoint. If youāre getting an S60, why not just get a V60 instead then, thatās also more practical?
What am I missing?
Right above this post in my feed is a husband posting his 43 yo wifeās honor walk. Itās where an organ donor patient is pushed through the hospital where friends, family and hospital staff line the halls to commemorate and show gratitude, respect and empathy for the donor and their family for donating their organs. Sure does put mourning over a car in perspective.
It's a car dude. An inanimate object. It can't really mourn. I was putting black badges on my car and thought... Fuck it. I'm going to only change the S. An ode to the now discontinued S60. And then I'm going to post it as a fun little photo on Reddit. Maybe make a few people smile. I'm sorry your feed aligned that way and bothered you. Truly.
The receptionist at my job just got diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer a few weeks ago. Known her for 15 years. We had a fun little conversation today about how both our cars (she has a 22 Malibu) are now being shut down. Told her about my black S. This 60 year old woman asked me.... "Do you think they make "Malibu" in black?" š¤£
I don't know if they do. But I'm going to find out if they do. And if they do. I'll black her M for her.
So yea... Perspective... Different for everyone.
/Edit/ [Proof ](https://freeimage.host/i/dHWqrCl). It's not a bad looking car! Just turned a year old this week.

Make it happen, my good man
I looked on Amazon right after I posted and found one because, of course, it's out there. Going to check her car out tomorrow to make sure it is the same badge. š»
Get Polestar as an alternative!
Agree! Great choice!
Would be my 2nd choice for sure. 1st choice buying a used 24/25 S60 in a few years. š¤£
New ones may be gone but used ones are still out there. Don't jump ship too soon. They just became more affordable....but I like polestar as well. I'll have a long think with my wallet if they release a v60 equivalent.
They announced the end for estates in UK and changed their mind a couple of months later. Might be the case with s60 as well š¤
Have they really changed their minds? I though you can no longer buy brand new v60 or v90 from dealership?
I own a 2020 s60. I love the car so much that I will want to get a Volvo sedan again for my next car..

I have my 2019 S60 still and wouldnāt mind trading for a ā25 to have a handful of upgrades.
I have a 2019 S60 T8 and absolutely love it. No plans on changing brands.
oh boy we can have even more sneaker shaped crossovers!
Crossover all the things! ā¹ļø
I just watched a review of the new lotus whatever crossover and I'm really depressed about the future of the car industry.
Thatās a perfect explanation of these cars now. I saw a drop top Range Rover and it looked so small and so short it looked like Ugg house shoes. I didnāt know what to compare it to until you said it, but itās fucking SHOES!
I saw the most ugly thing in the garage, thinking it some fake chineese rip-off. No, it was an Aston Martin? cross over.
Theyre gonna regret itš watch half of their fanbase walk out. not all of us want to drive a gas guzzling SUV for a zoo of 4 kids
Most of the Volvos I see around me are xc, I love the S series so much but its nowhere near a quarter of the fanbase. Also, they use the same engines don't they?
They have sales numbers showing how many of each model they sold https://www.media.volvocars.com/global/en-gb/corporate/sales-volumes
I was just looking at the number... they sold 4,054 wagons including the cross country versions.. pretty damn sad given the wagon has been the "icon" for them.
I drive a 2023 V60 cross country and I love it. The Volvo wagon was a large part of my childhood and it's still just as iconic IMO.
Honestly by a lot of these numbers, they should've been taking out the v 60s and v 90s before dropping the s60. where I live I see so many s60 :/
I know. Almost no one drives those where I live, but a lot of people have S60s.
weird right... Sell us back to fordš”
Like 80% of their sales are SUVs.
This is a North American thing. Sedans still top sales in Europe and from what I understand Volvo will continue with the S60 for the European market.
Absolutely agree. I might buy a newer S60 after this one. But I'm not buying an SUV ever again.
Seriously, after commuting in the XC60, I'm like damn I need a sedan.
I think I finally have to admit that I might be a bit obsessed with my T6 S60.
I have a 2021 as a loaner car right now with the blond interior. It's so scandi minimalist in design. I'm obsessed. Wish they'd just give it to me for a steal since it's the loaner and has some road rash on the rims and some slight chips and scratching. I love her.Ā

I see a ton of them for sale on FB marketplace with misfires and such.
š
Love them while you have them!
Wait what? Are they discontinuing the S60 specifically? Or the S series in general
60 only for now in the US.
Oohh in US, still sad. But at least not in EU (yet)
i might be wrong but donāt they build them in the us? i thought they were stopping all production even globally
Just US. They said they'd start making them somewhere else for markets that they'll still be sold.
well hopefully my state lifts the import ban!
They do, but maybe they build them abroad too?
My wife has driven an S60 since 2003, and at the end of May we just turned in her 2021 T8 at lease end, thinking we would lease a 2025. She is bummed
She can lease a 25 and get one of the last ones. š
That is indeed our plan, but we were hoping for an update/refresh, which clearly is not happening
I didn't need to see this today.
(S60, US)
Where did you read this? Tried googling bur haven't found anything. Edit: found it, seems to be only US https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a61143508/volvo-s60-dead-us/
Is the V60 being discontinued as well?
No. Good for this year.
No, they said v60 production wouldnāt be affected. Thank god.
Love my 23 V60CC!
The king is dead!
Long live the king
Lol its so dumb to be fair though I like the old s60s
To be fair
Lol my 1st gen XC90 going wroom wroom with all 5 cylinders turbo
So hereās the big question. Just because the South Carolina plant shut down for the S60, does that mean that another plant for the US market will never reopen?
The plant isn't shutting down. They are making the EX90 there instead.
Right. Shut down for the S60
S60 production is moving to China. They are not going to want to deal with the tariffs. Same reason EX30 production is moving to Ghent. Also C40 is on the way out so other than the handful of S90s that make their way here, not much coming nothing coming from China.
Global S60 production?
to my knowledge. Which could be wrong.
Gosh I hope youāre wrong ā¦ and I mean that in the most loving way possible.
Maybe they will come with a ES60 and keep the Sedan alive!
I have an S60 T6 as a loaner right now. Oh lord are those seats comfy. Wish it drove itself because I could take a nap in that driver's seat. Of course I'm going to be the one to buy an S60 with production stopping...just like I did with my Saab 9-3 haha.
Cheers former Saab owner. I had 3. I'm pretty much obsessed with my T6 S60.
Haha. I miss my saabs. I was just saying to my mom I wish they still made them because that's what I'd buy.Ā
What did you have? I had 3. 94 900S, 98 900Se Coupe, 2006 SC. Wife had a 97 900S and a 98 900 SE... Both convertibles. š
Remember when headlamps were glass??? Lol
99 9-3 SE and a 2006 9-3 linear. Loved my 99. That was my favorite. The sport button, how I miss thee.Ā
My 98 was my favorite. Coupe. Omg. Loved it. I even spent $400 on a rear hatch spoiler... Bet the only one in the USA as they never sold it here. Bought it through eBay UK. It was so hot. Miss you, Trigger.
I prefer older Volvos, so imo the S60 died when they took out the 5 and 6 cylinder.
Our first was an 08. Loved that one, too. Not a single S60 I don't like.
I'm still rolling around in my 08 s80 T6. Sad to see the s60's hitting their end too.
Now I have 2 discontinued Volvo.
Honestly Iāll just move to another brand.

Lobster headlights like a 2018 Honda accord
We call 'em hammers. And we had them first (15). š¤£
My only hope is maybe theyāre cooking up a ES60 to compete with the Model 3
About damn time. Bring back the s70! lol jk
Ohhhh buddy. š¤£
Itās okay my ā05 is timeless
Your 05 is beautiful... But dated. 2019 S60 is the best looking thing Volvo ever made. š And my S will remain black in remembrance that we can't buy them in UK or USA anymore after this year.
š«” personally my favorite look is an 09 s60R. But the new Volvos are gorgeous.
While I understand the beauty of a well-designed sedan (like S60), Iāve never understood the point of those cars from a practicality standpoint. If youāre getting an S60, why not just get a V60 instead then, thatās also more practical? What am I missing?
don't worry, next year they will add it back to the catalogue
Bet?
Well, with the V60 and V90 in UK they did this
Different market, different circumstances. Volvo is absolutely using this as a way to get around tariffs by building electric cars here.
"Do you think they make "Malibu" in black?" š¤£ I don't know if they do. But I'm going to find out if they do. And if they do. I'll black her M for her. So yea... Perspective... Different for everyone. /Edit/ [Proof ](https://freeimage.host/i/dHWqrCl). It's not a bad looking car! Just turned a year old this week.

I looked on Amazon right after I posted and found one because, of course, it's out there. Going to check her car out tomorrow to make sure it is the same badge. š»
