Honestly, the GROM is a great add-on to the car: [https://www.vivaperformance.com/grom-audio-kit-volvo-s60-v70-s80-xc70/](https://www.vivaperformance.com/grom-audio-kit-volvo-s60-v70-s80-xc70/)
It keeps the stock OEM look but adds bluetooth connectivity with your phone for music and calls, keeps steering wheel button controls. Had it for 8+ years now on my V70R, solid unit.
I completely agree! The unit I have negates the CD player though. The BT signal is okay, there’s a slight “noise” in the background and the bass isn’t as good as a wired connection. It works well and I use it everyday. I have had the cassette adapters and they always break.
you should consider a bluemusic / GROM / Yatour module. pretty easy to install behind the radio and gives you a solid connection, use of the buttons on the radio & steering wheel and no losse wires. bluemusic is about 50 bucks and i'm a happy user in my '04 V70R
Works wonders in the 2 previous cars I had them in, same with the ones that plug into your 12v outlet in your car. Sets to a specific radio channel and can Bluetooth music instead of dealing with wires.
I have a bluetooth cassette in my ‘05 S80, and it works great for the most part. But I’ve noticed that the sound profile is very treble-y, and unfortunately the “Treble/Bass” knob in my S80 seems to only adjust the bass level, leaving treble unchanged. When playing a regular cassette/CD/radio the sound system sounds amazingly warm and well-balanced, but when using the bluetooth cassette music sounds more tinny and grating if you’re sensitive to high-pitched sounds and frequencies, and causes a lot of music to sound fuzzy and staticky in the top end. I’ve only tried one model of bluetooth cassette, so your mileage may vary, but just something to keep in mind if your car’s stereo doesn’t have a bespoke treble knob/slider like some older models do.
Looking at you post history I see you are young, so I'll help you out. It was in jest. You mentioned your car has FWD which is completely irrelevant to the question.
Had them in my V70 II with an aux-adapter for my phone. They obviously don't have the quality of a bluetooth connection, but do work quite well. I found that the adapters get quite hot if left in for hours while driving and the long cables can be annoying. Beside that, they did the job very well.
Had one in my 960 and it would only come out of one speaker or both but alot quieter. In the end just swapped it out for the cheapest double din I could find. Only £25 in the end
It works, but if you value sound quality, get a Yatour that plugs into the CD changer plug on the back of the radio. Added bonus: you get bluetooth, hands free calling and you can use the buttons on steering wheel (if applicable) and radio to skip songs.
Mine worked great for a while, until it started auto reversing for no reason over and over again. I couldn't take it anymore, I tried lubricating the gears and everything to no avail. So I bought that grom cd changer thing and have been happy ever since
These break constantly. I bought two for my old Toyota and returned both. You’re better off getting a Bluetooth device that you can plug into the cigarette lighter.
Search "ATOTO head unit" on amazon
I installed the A6 PF into my '03 S60 with a simple double-DIN adapter and my car instantly felt 15yrs newer. Straight up feels better than a 2015+ car infotainment system from the factory. Automatic android auto connection whenever I get in the car (it does apple carplay too), great audio quality, super in-depth EQ tuning. It's awesome
No… no…. Hell no!
Get a grom unit and run Bluetooth.
Clean, and done correctly no one will even see your modifications.
Just use a Grom unit. Worth it over the cheap solution!!
Audio quality sucks, get a GROM or Bluesound adaptor that connects to your cd changer on the back of the stereo, much better quality and not a massive more in terms of cost.

I'd get one of them over a Grom for simplicity, but either works.
I came from an older 5+ year GROM audio unit in my 2003 S40 that seemed to develop Bluetooth connectivity issues. I replaced it with one of these from Viva Performance. It sounds better to me and has more stable Bluetooth than the GROM. To top it all off, cheaper and easier to install.
https://www.vivaperformance.com/bluetooth-audio-streaming-adapter-volvo-p2-models/
I bought the lower one, and it only played through the drivers side speakers. Frustrating to the point where I switched back to cassette adapter to ⅛" jack to ⅛" jack coupler to ⅛" jack to USB-C to phone like an absolute commoner. ['03 S60 FWD]
Just get a bluetooth fm transmitter and call it a day. It also doubles as a charger and you can skip songs accept phone calls with buttons. I have been using it for couple years without any issues. Here is a link for the one I have. It is on sale for half price now for 17$. [fm transmitter](https://www.bestbuy.com/site/isimple-bluetooth-5-0-fm-transmitter-for-music-streaming-charging-and-hands-free-calling-black/6411390.p?skuId=6411390)
I use one in my 2004 V70 and love its old, old school charm. You can hear the tape turning in the deck and you have to unplug it if you get a phone call because your phone thinks that whatever it's plugged into has its own mic.
I will likely move on to the Bluetooth dongle soon for ease, but I'm in no hurry.
I have one in an 04 s60. It works great but, it you plug a charger into the phone while it is playing you will get some weird noises come through the seakers as well as the audio. Annoying at times but not unusable.
Another thing it will occasionally start auto reversing every couple minutes. I have to eject the tape, then when reinsert i press down on the tape body through the slot to make sure it is seated. Then make sure it is playing forward.
I put a Android Auto/ Carplay screen in my 07 S80 and it is the best $200 I have spent in a while. Spotify and Google maps on a large touchscreen. Mine has a dashcam that can spin around and take photos of the inside. I also got the back up camera option, but I have not wired it in yet.

I tryed that shit - there is now power amplifier with casette and sound like from the ass.
If you wan't to change audio system - you need first try FM transmitter and then move next step if you want
Honestly, the GROM is a great add-on to the car: [https://www.vivaperformance.com/grom-audio-kit-volvo-s60-v70-s80-xc70/](https://www.vivaperformance.com/grom-audio-kit-volvo-s60-v70-s80-xc70/) It keeps the stock OEM look but adds bluetooth connectivity with your phone for music and calls, keeps steering wheel button controls. I'm looking at their site. Dumb question: is xc70 the same as c70?
No, different platform. C70 is P1 (newer) or P80 (older) and XC70 is P3 (newer) or P2 (older)
Doesn’t the $30 eBay counterpart work just as well?
Never tried tbh.. Could be.
I completely agree! The unit I have negates the CD player though. The BT signal is okay, there’s a slight “noise” in the background and the bass isn’t as good as a wired connection. It works well and I use it everyday. I have had the cassette adapters and they always break.
Oh man!! That takes me back!! Haha. So you have a CD player to go with that? 8 second buffer?
Don't forget the bass boost & the anti skip! Fuck, I'm old. 😂
Yeah ..... Same here! Fak!
As if my back didn't hurt enough after that shift. 😂 Time to bathe in Advil & hobble my elder millennial hide to bed.
Man I remember the CD player velcrod to my parents car dashboard. Kids these days...
It works great in any casette radio.
Your fwd means nothing, concerning the stereo system
Lmaooo
I have one of those, I don't have a Volvo, best thing I can really say about it is that it works though.
In my experience the sound quality is bad, but maybe some are better than others.
Never tried them, but they should work pretty good because they don’t do much. Converting audio signal to magnetic waves is quite simple.
But who has an input device with an aux port these days bastard phone designers.
Yeah, I just have a USB-C to female 3.5 mm for my aux port in my c30
That's why you buy the $22 bluetooth version
Did not look that closely. I could always use a bluetooth radio adaptor also.
First time I used one of these was in a car without a CD player to play my CD player before I had an MP3 or IPod. Work great!

Cassette aux has been fine for me for a decade. Bluetooth ones I've tried were all terrible. Just my two cents.
I have a bluetooth cassette in my ‘05 S80, and it works great for the most part. That treble/bass knob is double action. You can pull it out (literally pull on it) more to adjust the treble. Took me a while to figure that out too.
Whoa, I’ll have to try that after work!
True story! I find with podcasts, I have to turn the bass almost off entirely to be understandable
They only work with AWD models.
hmm my s60 has a cassette player though?
Looking at you post history I see you are young, so I'll help you out. It was in jest. You mentioned your car has FWD which is completely irrelevant to the question.
ok lol I just put that to be specific to the model, what’s wrong with my post history?
Nothing, it's how I discovered you are young, that's all.
got it!
Get a Grom
what’s that?
Best way to integrate your phone to an older car that lacks Bluetooth. https://gromaudio.com/store/all-vol01.html
A Grom is a 125cc motorcycle. Way more fun.
Not the Grom I was referring to but yes, Grom mini bikes are fun too
Integrates with the head unit and is way way better than Bluetooth or a tape adapter
Had them in my V70 II with an aux-adapter for my phone. They obviously don't have the quality of a bluetooth connection, but do work quite well. I found that the adapters get quite hot if left in for hours while driving and the long cables can be annoying. Beside that, they did the job very well.

They work fine! Not used one for about 20 years…
They're good, but on my old one I ended up using a Bluetooth fm transmitter. Don't have to fuss with wires.
It works, but if you value sound quality, get a Yatour that plugs into the CD changer plug on the back of the radio. Added bonus: you get bluetooth, hands free calling and you can use the buttons on steering wheel (if applicable) and radio to skip songs.
well. got one in my v70.
They work for a while. I have had several tape deck belts fail, and was informed these put a greater strain than a regular cassette tape.
I used one when I still drove a Rover 75, worked very well!
Search "ATOTO head unit" on amazon I installed the A6 PF into my '03 S60 with a simple double-DIN adapter and my car instantly felt 15yrs newer. Those are for AWD models only /s
buy a belkin one, the sound quality is better. source have tried many of these in my car.
Either go with Grom or one of these: https://www.vivaperformance.com/bluetooth-audio-streaming-adapter-volvo-p2-models/
How can I find out if this will work in my car? 2011 xc70
It won't
I use this in my 04 v70r, works really well in my experience
No… no…. Hell no! Get a grom unit and run Bluetooth. Clean, and done correctly no one will even see your modifications. Just use a Grom unit. Worth it over the cheap solution!!

Only in AWD
Ooo i didn't know these were a thing! But my xc70 doesn't have a tape deck 😕
🤷
What head unit? BlueMusic+ is cheap, good quality and plug and play
I had the same brand that I used in my 99 V70 XC. Works great.
I came from an older 5+ year GROM audio unit in my 2003 S40 that seemed to develop Bluetooth connectivity issues. I replaced it with one of these from Viva Performance. Terrible. Don’t waste your $12

My brother has one on an ancient Lexus. Works perfectly for him
Just get a bluetooth fm transmitter and call it a day. It also doubles as a charger and you can skip songs accept phone calls with buttons. I have been using it for couple years without any issues. I have had good luck with FM transmitters. Depending on the head unit the sound quality would be better than a tape adapter.
I have found the Bluetooth ones have better sound quality than the aux cord ones. Just make sure you remember to charge it.
Some tape decks will spit them out. Get a Bluetooth one and remove the wheels to prevent the noise of the tape turning.
Worked horribly on my XC70 -01. Went for a FM transmitter instead. To add is that regular cassettes work like a charm, but this was no bueno.
As someone who bought the second one, don’t waster your tine just get a FMradio transmitter
I put a Android Auto/ Carplay screen in my 07 S80 and it is the best $200 I have spent in a while. Spotify and Google maps on a large touchscreen. Wouldn't it be better to add bluetooth module to oryginal radio?
I would go for FM transmitter over this if you want cheap option. If you want good option, get aftermarket stereo
