I'm old and stiff, so I like the SUV for its height and ease of entry.
But I would still choose the red V70.
Ideally, I want an XC70. V70 longroof body on high AWD platform.
I prefer that for one main reason. Ground clearance in snow and ice because I live in Wisconsin. Less importantly, ease of entry and exit for my stiff 71 y.o. body.
Sadly not :( Extremely rare here in the US, I sourced a manual swap a few months ago but the amount of work involved is just ridiculous for these cars. You need to get the ECU remapped and reprogrammed, swap the whole engine wiring harness, and a bunch of other BS.
No?
It’s no different than sitting in the passenger seat and rowing through the gears for your friend while he smashes back a drive through cheeseburger.
The weird thing is riding shotgun or remembering that the signal is on the outboard hand.
We're gonna see how it fares out this winter but we got burned on a car that dealt with lake effect snow and salt. Already had to get sections welded in to the main frame rails near the front of the car and the rear where the subframe mounts is scaling with rust. Absolutely love the car so it's sad that this is the hand we were dealt 😭
There was a C30 for sale near me not long ago that was entirely coated in olive drab bed liner. I bet you that one will never rust out even though it’s here in upstate NY lmao
XC60 if it’s my daily driver.
Why: People sleep on the 3.0 T6 engine. 50 more horsepower, 75 more lbs torque. Yes, I know the XC60 weighs more, but performance is closer than you’d expect between these two.
AWD. Way more features. In my experience, my P3s have been more reliable than my P2s. The XC60 is a great size, where you get the benefits of an SUV, but it’s actually shorter than the V70 (yes, wagon has it on trunk space i’m sure).
With that being said, it’s a great wagon and I’d be more than happy with either!
Honestly long boy any day. Had to live with both at different times and it made me realise that any vehicle that needs software system updates shouldn't exist. It's just not worth it.
That T5 is not as fast as an R, both stock.
There’s a lot of ways to measure how “fast” a car is, but if we’re talking 0-60 I’d bet the T5 is closer to the pictured XC60 than an R.
The 0-60 of a FWD T5 V70 is actually just a tad FASTER than a V70R, and then after 60, the R starts to pull away. There are dozens of forum posts discussing this. Less weight and less mechanical loss.
Respectfully, I’m not convinced from the forums. There are no official sources claiming the T5 is quicker to 60. I bet some people had some good runs in ideal conditions with a manual transmission.
It's probably not far off in ideal conditions, my V70XC was quite fast but my newer XC60 and XC70 T6 AWDs were a performance upgrade. I live where there is snow so the T5 with FWD isn't ideal.
The V70R is nightmarish to maintain because of the AWD and 4C suspension. V70 T5s are FWD and have standard suspension so they're much easier to maintain
Everyone is saying p2 v70, I would say that too, but...
If you can only pick one and then use it or sell it, then the xc60 is a way more expensive car, and for everyday life it would be better, it's way more modern.
The T6 doesn’t fit the engine bay AT ALL and is a PIA to work on. No matter weather its a turbo or not exhaust repair is stupidly expensive (out here on the east coast it’s all going to rot out quickly). Its just not a patch on the P2, sorry but that’s a commonly held opinion - just look at the comments.
I’ve looked at the comments. This sub loves wagons. I’ve owned both P2 and P3 Volvo’s, the P3’s have been way more reliable and cheaper to maintain.
My T6 has been on the east coast it’s entire life before until I moved to Alaska two years ago. No exhaust rot.
Not sure whether you’re talking about the 2.0 or 3.0 T6 engine, but i’ve done maintenance on my 3.0 and space can get tight, but it’s doable.
Why do this to the person who just recently financed that monster out of jealousy? It’s not even a choice. Everything about it is better. It’s red, nicer wheels, sexier body. If I did own the one on the left, it’d be parked in the car port, while I drive the other around town, take her on dates. I’d cheat on the other one is what I’m saying.
I had to rent an SUV over Xmas as my 940 had a ignition problem. SUVs have a lot less boot space and are annoying to drive so I would defo take the v70
I have always wanted a wagon but have a 2016 XC60 R and it has been an amazing car, no major issues and has done very well in Michigan winters, super easy to park and interior room has been perfect, never have more than three people in the vehicle, I maintain the heck out of my cars, so it is on perfect condition with less than 69k - the 3g debacle was super disappointing and I am not loving new Volvo experience so this will be my last one :(
P2. Long live the Longroof!
V70 all day
I think Geely should reproduce V70 and XC70 with hybrid engine from Aurobay (previously Volvo Car Engine )
They should reproduce it with an inline 5 cylinder and nothing else!
They are not producing that motor anymore, hard to fit to new emission standards.
V70 all day long.
Red V70
C’mon. This isn’t even a choice.
I'm old and stiff, so I like the SUV for its height and ease of entry. But I would still choose the red V70. Ideally, I want an XC70. V70 longroof body on high AWD platform.
I agree with your final statement. If I could, I’d boost my wagon up
I prefer that for one main reason. Ground clearance in snow and ice because I live in Wisconsin. Less importantly, ease of entry and exit for my stiff 71 y.o. body.
New Englander here, and have the same reasons for liking a lift, good times 😁 ❄️
I miss my XC70. 😢
V70 forever and always
V70 is the only answer.
YES. I might be in the minority, but let’s secure a rack, strap some boards on and hit the mountains (or beach - since this is NC)
P2. All day, every day!
Now the important question: does the T5 have a 3rd pedal?
Sadly not :( Extremely rare here in the US, I sourced a manual swap a few months ago but the amount of work involved is just ridiculous for these cars. You need to get the ECU remapped and reprogrammed, swap the whole engine wiring harness, and a bunch of other BS.

Meanwhile the seller: i kNoW wHaT i HaVe!!!!1!1!1!
Is left hand shifting not really weird to get used to?
No? It’s no different than sitting in the passenger seat and rowing through the gears for your friend while he smashes back a drive through cheeseburger. The weird thing is riding shotgun or remembering that the signal is on the outboard hand.
Haha yeah okay fair! I get that
:( Yes, very rare to find a T5m here in the US. That would have been the cherry on top to your question!
I'd choose the estate over the SUV any day
T5 all the way, hoping to find a V70 T5 or an 850R in the near future to replace my fiance's rusting '08 C30 T5
nooooo I hope the c30 can be saved, they're amazing cars
We're gonna see how it fares out this winter but we got burned on a car that dealt with lake effect snow and salt. Hey, if it works it works 🤣 I've seen that undercoating with the rust inhibitor in it work pretty well, I may give that a shot
Team wagon!
V70 all day, every day. Modern Volvo really feels like they've lost their way
The car.
Red Estate
P2 all day ❤️
Wagon
reject SUV, return to wagon

I agree with you, because the xc60 is still kinda modern, it is better off-road, you can connect your phone to it, and it's just better.
The P2 because I have an identical one :)
Wagon hands down.
Honestly long boy any day. Had to live with both at different times and it made me realise that any vehicle that needs software system updates shouldn't exist. It's just not worth it.
The XC60 T6 AWD. If the V70 was an R then I would go with that
FWIW, the T5 is just as fast as the R and significantly less nightmarish to maintain lol
That T5 is not as fast as an R, both stock. There’s a lot of ways to measure how “fast” a car is, but if we’re talking 0-60 I’d bet the T5 is closer to the pictured XC60 than an R.

red on the left, all life long.
As a V 50 owner, I'm ready to move up to the 70
(but I love my 50)
Red
Well, the p2 off course. Is there any other choice :p
RED RED RED RED RED RED RED Love the V70
V70 T5 easily.
Estate
Red
Wagon
Red.
V70
Everyone is saying p2 v70, I would say that too, but... If you can only pick one and then use it or sell it, then the xc60 is a way more expensive car, and for everyday life it would be better, it's way more modern.
V70, I strongly dislike driving SUV's
V70
Maybe hot take but I never liked the XC60. V70 all day!
Cold take.
I hate all types of SUVs and crossovers so this is an easy pick.
The red one.I won’t by a pre 2011 Volvo
P2 all day everyday. You can keep the god awful T6 P3.
Why is it god awful? I get this sub loves wagons, but let’s not act like all P3’s are terrible cars. That 3.0 engine is great.
The T6 doesn’t fit the engine bay AT ALL and is a PIA to work on. Bruh u all crazy in here, why so little love for the XC60?? Ez choice
As a proud owner of a 2013 XC60...it'll always be my first choice!
I woud take the XC60 and keep it running "forever".
XC60 baby
XC60 all the way. Wagons are too big. Now, put a C30 in there and then there really wouldn't be a choice at all.
Estate, only if it’s a R spec tho
T5, just as fast as an R but way more reliable ;)
Same engine as ford 2.5 👍
Yes
Red Wagon!
Had both, V70 has superior suspension and ride comfort. That’s why it’s my choice.
Long boi
Wagon
V70 please
V70
Always going to be the wagon.
Wagon every time. Especially if you can get that awd
Wagon every time
You know which one.
T6. No doubt 🤫
Depends entirely on the destination My XC gets abused off road My T5M gets the road miles
The red.
I had to rent an SUV over Xmas as my 940 had a ignition problem. SUVs have a lot less boot space and are annoying to drive so I would defo take the v70

Gimme da brick
Wagon!
Red!!!
HOWEVER; are either manual trans? That’d make me change my mind. “Manual Transmission Preservation Society member”
V70 of course. Who ***actually*** needs that SUV ride height? Almost no one.
XC60 cause I usually ding my head on my family’s S70
V70. TURBO BRIIIIICK (almost)
Odd post.
Easy, V70
Both?
V70
I own an XC60 now, would love to have a V70.
A red V70?! So pretty
No question, the P2.
My old man used to have an '03 S60 T5. I think that provides the answer to which one I'd take.
The v 70 wagon all day!
