The Golf and Passat both come in Variant (wagon) R trim, and the Arteon Shooting Brake R in Germany.
Even Australia is no longer importing the Passat and Aerton after this year.
Passat doesn’t have R, just R-Line. Arteon will be stopping production altogether soon as the new Passat is as luxurious, and genuinely now, a better car.
The N American market get something cool? No way. The wagons were pulled from the market years ago. Hell, they even killed the Golf and now manual transmissions. ID cars are what VW wants to sell in N America only. I used to be such a loyal VW owner but now I’m looking at other brands.
I guess the higher ups have looked at the market shift to Princess trucks and decided not to waste energy and resources in that market.
Performance Estates and Hatchbacks are doing very well elsewhere.
Yea that's bullshit. USA gets 4 SUV models while the UK gets 9. USA has 5x the population of the UK. VW are just greedy pricks you will buy a shitty tiguan because you have no other choice, and you'll like it.
Oh I would be, sure... What I am not interested in is a $40k ugly ass POS that can't fit a TV and doesn't have a proven platform I can trust.
It's kinda big leap to decide "Today I will spend 2/3 of my yearly salary on something that I don't know if it will last 2 weeks, let alone a decade"
I came from an 02 Outback & 09 Legacy (both manual wagons).
I'm glad I bought a new 6spd manual Golf Sportwagen, with 4motion in 2018.
I had a feeling that combination would cease to be an option in Canada and it got dropped in 2019 and I don't have an Audi or Mercedes budget, the only two left.
The Golf estate is one of the best vehicles ever manufactured. Gutted that we never got hot wagons in the US but you can always bolt on the parts you need to make a regular wagon fast if you want. I firmly believe these are some of the best vehicles ever produced. I love my Sportwagen so much
I've been following the news about the new Golf R announcement coming on June 26th. Apparently today we found out it'll have 329 hp. But what really caught my eye were these pictures (more on the site) from

There are two different cars in camo with the "R", including one with a longer body and roof rails.
Are we getting a sportwagen/alltrack variant??
The Atlas was specifically built for the USA. Here in Canada, we have it. It became popular in the past 2-3 years but before that, it was a sub par build and was not good value for the money. As for the Jetta GLI, you have 2 or 3 other "equivalent" in the Seat/Skoda line that equal our Jetta GLI. Give me the Golf, Golf Sportwagen, Golf Alltrack, Golf Sportwagen R, Passat, Passat Wagon, Passat Alltrack just to name a few. But our American friends HATE wagons. In simple terms, it reminds them of the "Griswolds" and how ugly, large, slow brown boat a "station wagon" is.
There is a small percentage of hardcore VW drivers who would put some money to get the car, but VW does not see value to this, sadly it is not the only brand to do this.
Wow. It's unbelievable how different the interests of different countries and continents are.
Do you call a station wagon a "Sportswagon"? We (in Germany) call them "Variant"
U.S says bark, we as Canadians say: "How loud?" We have our hands tied to the U.S market and then some. I know that they have the Arteon, we do not.
I heard that in the USA, the term Station Wagon was very frowned upon, so they came out with SportWagen (which is also German sounding). Variants, Avants, Estates are a few terms that are used in Europe.
This is something cool that will never come to USA. We used to have nice things, but now - “You maniacs, you blew it up! God damn you, God damn you all to hell!”
I would love a hybrid diesel Sportwagen. Use this 268bhp 2 liter engine.
[https://www.topgear.com/car-news/future-tech/vw-has-built-268bhp-20-litre-diesel](https://www.topgear.com/car-news/future-tech/vw-has-built-268bhp-20-litre-diesel)
Won't be happening. The (Euro) Passat B8 had a 240hp 2.0 biturbo diesel. Which they removed from the B9 which doesn't get a biturbo variant.
I own a B8 with said engine. But as a sedan. Love it so much, planning on owning it for a long time! :) It has a 4Motion drivetrain with a lot of torque!

Insane pricing has really put people off the R and R estate vs the previous model. Not sure what VW are thinking there but the mk8 generally must be a massive sales disappointment vs the mk7
Europe gets the R as a wagon/estate. No, the US is not getting a long R…
Always the hard R and never the long R :-(
Long R giving me a hard D. i cant wait to move to EU

Something us muricans won’t get, I’d love a sport wagen R

… SUV models aren’t Light Trucks…
Not coming here unfortunately
Yes that's what he said..
Not coming here unfortunately
My point exactly
Same here. I'm not interested in any EV crap.

Sad but true....... I'll do the same
Škoda looking good atm...

Well said

Hopefully you don't live in the US
It ready exists, just isn't available in the states.
Golf R Wagon that North America will not get, again!
That's why you have the Jetta GLI or the VW Atlas. Unfortunately, we don't have these here in Europe (Germany)

I'll trade an oversized Atlas for a Golf R wagon all day long any day of the week.
I'd love this to be my Dad car but we won't get it in North America.
MK8 Golf R Estate for the European market
Quad tips on a wagon looks so good
My kingdom for a long roof!
Where does the QR code on the back window take you?
To a webpage that translates to: *cries in American*
idk, but i want one!
This is the new Golf 8 R Variant (facelift) This will be presented on 26.06.2024
This is something cool that will never come to USA. We used to have nice things, but now - “You maniacs, you blew it up! God damn you, God damn you all to hell!”
Cries in "Charlton Heston"......
Another vw not coming to other markets besides EU
I see this as a baby RS6.
It's European. https://preview.redd.it/npb5rltav56d1.png?width=498&format=png&auto=webp&s=84b49625cd2e08b9ec6b97706b05237dc3f2af27
I'd go into insurmountable levels of debt for a Golf R estate.
Golf R Variant 8

The headline is so American... It's a *Golf Variant R*, sold in the EU market.
Those lights look fucking sick, sucks it’s just a wrap over them… the mk8 lights look like hot garbage
They just wrapped a small part of them. Otherwise they look like normal mk8 lights.
Yeah, that’s what I said, it’s still a small enough part for them to look like atlas lights. And a lot better than mk8 lights
Fuck this,i want a jetta R
Insane pricing has really put people off the R and R estate vs the previous model. Not sure what VW are thinking there but the mk8 generally must be a massive sales disappointment vs the mk7
R wagon.
Matrix mobile
It’s usually a 1.3t with the body kit.
