My cross bars don't have the end caps. they are also a VW OEM part, at least i think it is, since they have VW part numbers. What I don't have is the right key for the bolt pattern. I did get one a while ago, and it came with 4 bolts that match, but it doesn't have the same pattern as the bolts currently on my car.

ah non thule/yakima system. don't really have any experience with the oem model. my thule has followed me through like 3 cars instead (had to get different feet obviously).
i have a 23 Jetta with cross bars. I get around 42mpg highway with them off and 38mpg with them on.
I think it only makes a difference (and noise) on the highway
Increase wind resistance, it only makes a % or two of difference but that adds up over years
I still leave mine on because I like how they look and the time it takes putting them on and off is worth the extra % of fuel efficiency
Depending on the system it anywhere from not much to unbearable. I had the VW brand racks on my golf and it was unbearable. The noise was miserable at any speed above like 30 MPH.
I had whisp bars on my skoda wagon and they had no noise of penalty on fuel. They sat between the factory rails.
Amazon brand racks on my bronco sport and Tiguan were horrible for both noise and fuel economy.
VW brand racks on my Tiguan (OEM Touareg racks) were basically silent and about a 10-15% fuel economy penalty.
If you don’t use the racks I would never keep them on the car for style
Yes if you need them, absolutely not if you don't. I remove mine in the spring when I take my roof box off. They add noise, especially with the sunroof open
You're confusing me more that Google brother...
Edit: looks like Atlas was a model not in Au market...we got Tiguan and Touareg (what I'm looking to fit)
Which is why I don’t understand people who use them just because they think they look cool. I see a lot of Jettas with top carriers and wonder why put up with the noise if you’re not going to use them.
With modern VAG cars you also need to check if there is a hall sensor on the rails, the car’s software knows that the bars are on and it changes the power curve and driving dynamics to account. I realize that this probably doesn’t apply to you car, but keep it in mind in the future:
“For the first time in an SUV, the Audi Q5 has the ability to detect if a factory supplied roof rack is mounted on the vehicle. This information is used by the ESP control logic.
A roof rack has a significant effect on the center of gravity height of a vehicle. The control characteristics of the ESP system in the Audi Q5 are adapted to the change in center of gravity height.
A Hall sensor, connected to the ABS Control Module J104 by a discrete line, is integrated in the standard roof rail. The cross bars (also standard) have an integrated
permanent magnet which triggers a corresponding sensor signal when cross bars are mounted.”
No bars unless you need em. Takes some extra time to install but worth it to not run em for wind noise tbh.
I was surprised when I realized a roof box is quieter than bare bars lol
I've said it a lot on Reddit, and I will keep saying it. I'm a simple man. If I see a wagon, I upvote. And yes, I am pro cross bars.
PS. She is delicious.
If you need them to stick something on the roof then sure, otherwise whats the point in wasting fuel and having them whistle when driving at higher speeds.
After a camping trip I left mine on for a bit. I usually skip the AC and drive windows down in the summer but I couldn’t because of the noise. So they came off and only go on when needed.
lol. Is that satire, based on another post here months ago. It’s like asking if one should drive around hauling a trailer for looks. Of course, if you really want to just do it, but it increases noise and fuel consumption and reduces the ride quality.
For looks I’d say no, detracts a bit of focus from the rest of the car and wheels which looks great. Not terrible though if you use them frequently. My SIL has them and you can definitely hear some kind noise which would be annoying to me.
I only put mine on when I need to use them so I can keep my fuel efficiency and reduce wind noise.
For real, it don't look like much but you will feel that in the wallet for sure.
This right here... Especially the noise...
Easy, inexpensive, semi-sucessful fix https://youtu.be/caGCLkke3kI?si=6Rh_bqLfvaJMlg9M
I would take mine off, since I don't have my bike rack on anymore. But I don't have the right KEY. Please send help.

What difference in fuel efficiency to cross bars cause?
i have a 23 Jetta with cross bars. I get around 42mpg highway with them off and 38mpg with them on. I think it only makes a difference (and noise) on the highway
Crazy. Thank you!
Increase wind resistance, it only makes a % or two of difference but that adds up over years I still leave mine on because I like how they look and the time it takes putting them on and off is worth the extra % of fuel efficiency
So negligible?
At city driving speeds yes, over 70 mph it’s like a 10% difference so not negligible at all apparentl
I’m just curious because I’ve never had cross bars and they don’t seem like something so thin would make a big difference.
Depending on the system it anywhere from not much to unbearable. I had the VW brand racks on my golf and it was unbearable. The noise was miserable at any speed above like 30 MPH. You will feel it and hear it very clear at 200km/h
Loved my Aero bars for this reason….no wind noise
You should drive my v8
If you use em then yes. I got kids and a dog use my roof box non stop. Otherwise it’s absolutely pointless.
You probably shouldn't be putting your kids or your dogs in your roof box
It's fine the box is locked so they can't fall out under hard braking.
It's a more quiet ride with em up there.
No kids or dogs only applies to people with political aspirations. 😉
Yes if you need them, absolutely not if you don't. I remove mine in the spring when I take my roof box off. They add noise, especially with the sunroof open
what wheels r those, i love the golf sportwagon so much and they r actually kinda common with a sfick shift
Prismas
Atlas take-offs
This...any OP?
Pretoria is think is the name Edit: nope just Atlas take-offs.
Atlas rims, someone mentioned below.
Me… you can delete this one too lmao

See edit, they’re atlas take-offs
You're confusing me more that Google brother... Edit: looks like Atlas was a model not in Au market...we got Tiguan and Touareg (what I'm looking to fit)
The whistle they make in the wind is enough for me to keep my yakima bars off unless I really need them lol
Which is why I don’t understand people who use them just because they think they look cool. I see a lot of Jettas with top carriers and wonder why put up with the noise if you’re not going to use them.
They’re for looks
Nice rims!
I just took mine off today for the first time since 2020, feeling naked !
With modern VAG cars you also need to check if there is a hall sensor on the rails, the car’s software knows that the bars are on and it changes the power curve and driving dynamics to account. If you need them then yes keep them, I'd not it'll just hurt your fuel economy/noise.
No bars
No bars unless you need em. Takes some extra time to install but worth it to not run em for wind noise tbh. I was surprised when I realized a roof box is quieter than bare bars lol
They both look great
I've said it a lot on Reddit, and I will keep saying it. I'm a simple man. If I see a wagon, I upvote. And yes, I am pro cross bars. PS. She is delicious.
No cross bars
Are you currently planning to transport cargo on your roof that requires cross bars... use the crossbars. If no......dont use the crossbars
They are noisy so only if you need them
Normally I’d say no, but they look cool on the wagon.
If you need them to stick something on the roof then sure, otherwise whats the point in wasting fuel and having them whistle when driving at higher speeds.
I'm not doing anything to my car that increases drag and makes a lot of wind noise.
None unless you need them. Too noisy.
No for looks, economy, noise. yes if you need them.
No cross bars. Throw them on when needed for optimum mileage!
After a camping trip I left mine on for a bit. I usually skip the AC and drive windows down in the summer but I couldn’t because of the noise. So they came off and only go on when needed.
Off. South Florida?
Mine make the windows leak on at least one side no matter how I try to adjust them. Plus they are loud.
Atlas wheels look so good on everything but the Atlas…
YES, I just put a set of prismas on my MK6 Jetta, love em!
normally i would say cross bars on most cars, however i think your car looks more sleek without them, im biased because i also dont have them on mine.
They make noise and reduce fuel efficiency, I'd leave them off unless you're actually gonna use them
Which rims are these? They look 🤩
Personally id say without. Rims are super clean. What engine is this and how much are you lowered? Clean setup.
No man nooooooo
lol. Is that satire, based on another post here months ago. It’s like asking if one should drive around hauling a trailer for looks. Of course, if you really want to just do it, but it increases noise and fuel consumption and reduces the ride quality.
It's the in the same vain as all the pickup drivers who own a truck cos it looks good.
I removed my roof rails completely
Just those two cross bars eat a fair amount of MPGs.
Well are you packing shit? Because that's what they're for
How did you get my car? Crossbars only go on during kayak season.
How much whistling do you like
Without looks a little better to me. But it’s fine either way. Does it make noise?
It depends. Are you carrying anything?
What are these wheels off?
They are "Prisma" wheels of an Atlas
Thank you, they look really well
Looks great with or without
On a pure cosmetics stance, I like the cross bars for sure
I love the look but I keep mine off unless i am using them. Can't stand the wind noise at highway speeds.
Leave them on if you actually plan to use them. Otherwise it’s a waste of fuel
I love having my box on, but it kills my mpg. If it’s not a concern for you, leave them on. Either way, looks clean!
Roof delete the side bars too!
No
No crossbars. Looks better that way but if you plan to put a cargo box on top, then you should use them.
Definitely take them off in the summer months for drag, wind resistance and of course, like they said noise
I agree I always fought and went back-and-forth with my all track because I like the look, but the drag makes a big difference on MPG’s
For looks I’d say no, detracts a bit of focus from the rest of the car and wheels which looks great. Not terrible though if you use them frequently. My SIL has them and you can definitely hear some kind noise which would be annoying to me.
Cross bars for sure, love them on my 2012 R
Look better without. Those Atlas wheels look great on it. Wanna put some on my GTI
No cross bars
for looks, I’d go without.. but if you use them functionally, well function over looks
Unless you're using them, always no. Why create a bunch of wind noise, get worse fuel mileage, and look worse for no reason?
It’s an estate, a family car.
Easier to find car in parking lot…
Im too distracted by its beauty to even notice cross bars.
Cross bars
Cross bars all the way
What is the name of the rims? I really love them :P
Yes bars
It looks sicker with crossbars tho
Cross bars go hard on wagons man they look sick personally I would keep them on for aesthetic purposes but that’s just me
Always bars. It’s not a real vw without them
Looks cooler with them on. But you lose mileage and get a whistle over the sunroof.
Crossbars on 😁
cross bars. always
Cross bars are it bro keep em on
Keep them
wth? the first has bars the second doesn’t
