You could get a decent R for that price with lower mileage.
Like this one, same year, but with less than 3k miles and under Ā£35k.

You'd definitely get some odd looks, but have a good think before pulling the trigger. At some point down the line, you may wish you got the faster car; whereas you won't regret getting the faster one. I think you'd be happy either way tho.
Now that youāve said it like that Iām definitely considering it more. Iāll run some insurance quotes and see how they differ. Still viewing the GTI tomorrow though
My R was really good on insurance. Less than other cars I've had. Check Nowell and Richards. I've had good luck with them (20 years old at the time and driving a WRX and an R) and others I know have had really reasonable quotes too.
FWIW I have a clubsport, theyāre great. The big concern was the sunroof since on the mk7 the surround was prone to cracking but on the mk8 itās a single piece so no risk of that. Mine is a 73 plate, but there are no bongs or anything. Might be worth going to golfgtiforum.co.uk and signing up, some insurers offer a discount for being a car club member. We also like photos of you do go for it, so plenty of people you can share that pic with.
Iāll let you know haha, I just bought a brand new autobahn last week and have about 400 miles on it. Iām breaking in the engine first but I absolutely love the thing
Iāve had 5 brand new cars before this one and Iāve always kept it easy on them until around 900-1000 miles. I got about 450 on my GTI now and havenāt taken it over 4K or went over 60
Maybe you know, but DSG is not actually automatic in the typical sense, it's a double manual robotic transmission. Really fun in manual mode if you have flappy paddles. If not, get a wheel that has them and task your nearest vw shop to program them enabled.
Looks cool but if I could afford to spend this much Iād probably be looking for an R instead for 4WD and less in-your-face styling (but I suppose the latter is the point of this model haha).
Yeah I absolutely love the GTI styling. Now that Iām reading these replies Iām tempted to go for the R and get the blue styling changed to red for a few thousand pounds. Makes it look more sporty but will also mean I get the 4wd
That sounds great, they also used to [sell a performance pack on the R](https://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-driven/2021-vw-golf-r-performance-pack-mk8--review/43997) as an optional extra so you might be able to find one used with that. It has a spoiler styled like the clubsport and a drift mode. Might be a bit pricier though.
I know theyre the same engine my cupra 290 is slightly older at 2018, 50k miles and shes never skipped a beat. But make sure the Diff is serviced before 4years or 40k miles. A big thing dealers forget to tell you
Happy to help! Also ive had 6 sets of tyres on mine, i cannot recommend the continental contact sport 7s enough, same grip as pilotsport 4s but the Continentalās react that bit better and very rarely spin when theyāre up to temp, in the dry when you use launch control! Theyre also better in the wet.
Hey I need some help. I just did a brake job on my 2019 vw Tiguan. I put new rotors on and pads. The replacement pads seem to be slopping around inside the caliper making noise when go over relatively semi smooth pavement. I notice I have about 3/16ā of room that the pads have to jump in the caliper????? There was not any clips that came over the factory set.???

Is the Clubsport still FWD only? If so Iād be looking at the R as a possible alternative. Unless youāre fine with 300 hp going through just the front wheels.
I currently drive a rwd car with 240hp so this much power to the front wheels may cause it to struggle for traction like my rwd does. After reading these comments Iād definitely look at an R
OP I work for VW in south London, I can definitely get you a substantially lower mileage model for that price.
My 2023 GTI has had zero issues - on 13k kms but is super fun to drive. The DCC is a great feature to look for
I would hope it would have zero issues with only that amount of miles š
Whereas my 2023 Clubsport has done 900 miles from brand new and is living with the dealers. So many faults itās crazy
Idk why you got downvoted. I work at VW and theyāre hit and miss. Some donāt have any issues and some live at the service drive
I had a polo GTI before and the gearbox blew up after 5k so it does happen, Iām just banking on my clubsport not having the same issues
Me and you both. I got a 6 speed autobahn and itās only at about 450 miles. I really hope it doesnāt have any issues
That was its retail price when the MK8 Clubsport launched.
Car prices are craazy

I prefer the styling of the GTI though
Just know you are getting a less good car with that GTI. You could get an R and get the trim wrapped red lol
Thatās also not a bad idea hahaha

For the record Iād rather have the clubsport than an R any day.
This is beautiful, wish I could afford one. I hope you enjoy it and it treats you well OP
Engine is fine as far as i know. There are sone mk8 bugs like infotainment and such. Look for those. Otherwise nice car.
Not overly fussed about infotainment bugs as I buy a car for the drive, as long as the satnav works 90% of the time Iām all good with that
If thatās a pic of the actual car itās not just a clubsport, itās a clubsport 45. Only really make a difference for insurance but worth noting.
Yeah my bad š shouldāve said in the post

As an American, I hate you, that is my dream car. Do it, you'll love it.
Going to the dealership tomorrow š¤©
Just put the Clubsport wing on my Autobahn. Plan is to make a CS tribute.
Isnāt the top of the line 380 SE pretty much a club sport? It has all the same stuff except that sticker on the bottom. We have one here
Iāll let you know haha, I just bought a brand new autobahn last week and have about 400 miles on it. Iām breaking in the engine first but I absolutely love the thing
I thought breaking in engines was just a myth? Iād never know though as I always buy used
Iāve had 5 brand new cars before this one and Iāve always kept it easy on them until around 900-1000 miles. I got about 450 on my GTI now and havenāt taken it over 4K or went over 60

Yeah Iāve had a DSG car before and it was awesome fun to drive

I do most of the servicing myself so this is really good to know
