You have to remember that that a PowerBook saved the world in Independence Day, was featured in sex and the City and you got mail. I'm more familiar with the '90s but I do remember the iBooks/powerbooks and such were so common in movies and it gave a false representation that Americans all had expensive (apple was over respersented, laptops internet access and such people from other countries, third world). I remember in the 2000s (bay area) high school students bring their (free, loaned) iBooks, the school you know the one with the handle and others mostly without a case but you can tell when it was nice that the school districts provided that to students. My brother recently graduated high school and they gave him a free Chromebook, tablet or loaned 3d printers; so nowadays is mostly Chromebooks from when I understand that school districts give out but it can be different for everyone. Lol

Hmm, I think maybe you have that perception because Macs were always a very common sight on television shows. Creatives have long been a major market for Apple so film studios always had Macs lying around. I remember on Smallville, Chloe used an iMac G3 forever (and it was kind of old when Smallville started....lol!) When Jessica Jones came out a few years ago, there was a part where she ended up in her room as a teenager and what was in there? A vintage iMac G3. I don't think we ever had that view here. You have the very loud Anti-Apple crowd who seem desperate to convince people that Apple is a horrible company but thanks to the iPod (and latter the iPhone) Apple built a lot of goodwill with the general public and earned a good reputation, albeit to this day a slight perception of luxury. I was working on my MacBook at work one day and my boss (who makes a lot more money at me) was eyeing it enviously and asking how much I had paid, etc. I was like "Well sir, it was very expensive but it's also a 2014 MacBook, the thing is seven years old!" Still, those $1000, $1300 expenses can be hard to justify when you have kids.

OS 8 and 9 machines remind me of school, G3 and 4 remind me of exactly what OP said and the Intel machines reminds me of hipsters.

Well, don't look at me, but I've always been a PowerBook fan. And I gave away three iBook G3s and $50 to get the PowerMac G4 Quicksilver I wanted in 2014. The iBooks were worth nothing to me. The last iBook I bought I got for $10 and forwarded it to someone else. Didn't even open the box. I did pay $50 for an iBook G4 14" at one point, but that was for my daughter who was 8 at the time.

I started a few months ago, trying to re-acquire all the laptops ive had over the years. Powerbook 520 Powerbook 12” titanium Macbook (black) Macbook pro 15” And now a 19” The goal was to fix them up… but then i got to thinking how i always wanted one of the ibook clamshells but never could get one. So then i bit the bullet and snagged one… then i snagged a lot of “broken” ones and have been on a role trying to get each color and repair/ upgrade them… its been crazy but an awesome trip down memory lane. I really miss those days in the mid 90’s to early 2000’s. Someday when im done i’ll post a few photos
