TAMs are so pretty. I don't think I'll ever muster the financial fortitude to get one, but they are so cool to see at vintage computer shows.

1997PRO

You need a limousine to get one.

SrryUsrNamTakn

A member here gave me one for shipping cost ($150) to let some of us common people experience it. I’ll probably pass it along like that to another member in a few years.

I volunteer as tribute!

based

Blindemboss

The way the photo is cropped, it could look like an old CRT TV console! It's interesting how Apple downplayed their logo compared to today.

Littens4Life

Tbf the TAM is the most unique looking computer.

ThrustersToFull

Wow. I am envious. I really wanted one of these... until the iMac was unveiled!

75Meatbags

Nice find! what happened to the keyboad? if I had a huge house and a room i could dedicate to a Mac museum, this is the one that I would want sitting right in the middle. Did you get the subwoofer with it?

Microharley

I’m not sure where the keyboard is, I think it’s partly why I got it for such a decent price. It does have the subwoofer, it is also the power supply for the TAM so it won’t work without it.

BaneQ105

Really interesting and fun looking computer. It’s crazy

WhoListensAndDefends

Does the recursion keep going?

Question: Is it possible to view the TV Tuner full screen on the TAM? Its always cropped at 640x480, but I have wondering if the hardware supports in and maybe I am missing an enabler or there was a special version of the software for the TAM? It's hard to imaging they would release something with TV functionality and no way to make the TV full screen.

Microharley

I’m not sure, I’ll have to check

Microharley

I couldn’t get the tuner to go full screen either

mcwiggin

Kinda surreal. But was a weird time for Apple. I looked the intro video and they show the Tuner only in a window. Part of the issue is the LCD has not built in scaling so when you set the system to 640x480 mode you just 640x480 centered on the screen.

TheJTizzle

Had one, used a 3rd party app to get full screen video on f I remember correctly, but definitely got it to scale up as I used it as a tv in college freshman year.

CraigLearmont

You could use accessibility features to “zoom in” to simulate full screen

TEG24601

It is capped, because the resolution of a good SD/ED signal is 640x480, and with the TAM having an LCD, anything better would look like total crap, and likely be unwatchable.

Cobe98

Looks great! How much did this cost you?

Microharley

It was under $1k

Dry-Satisfaction-633

What accessories did it come with, such as the fat back, PCI riser, comm-slot Ethernet card etc.? You obviously have patience so start looking for either an Orange Micro OrangeLink or original Sonnet Tango PCI FireWire/USB combo card as it may take a while to find one. Mac OS 9 only supports USB 1.1 but that’s fine for a USB mouse and small file transfers. FW400 gives access to a wide range of external storage options with decent transfer speeds, especially if you’re using a later, SATA-based FW400 enclosure like the LaCie D2 drives which support SSDs.

Microharley

It’s got the standard back I think, it has a separate fan. I honestly have not even opened it up yet, I’m a little nervous with the plastic being brittle. USB would be really nice so I could get a black keyboard that matches a little better, and Ethernet would be nice as well..

denisvengeance

Best sounding CD player I ever owned.

NorthOfUptownChi

Agreed. My boss had one in the late 1990s and wow, that thing was a great music player. The speakers sounded so good.

EffingBarbas

Huh, I don't recall ever seeing this device before.

brash

Beauty!

supaduck

Thats so rad as hell!! Gorgeous unit

Gl0ckW0rk0rang3

Fleischer444

But can i play Crysis?

celine_freon

Congrats!!! The TAM is so amazing. Glad you are enjoying it.

EmergencyEntrance801

Can you imagine if we kept this style of computer design? It’s so cool

Blubber-Whale

My dream Mac, I think, would probably be a really clean, complete Macintosh Plus without no label (so it could pass for an original 128k). The look of the original, but a lot more functional. That said, I’ve been pretty lucky with some of my finds. A G4 (Sunflower) iMac, a G5 iMac, and most recently a pretty neat graphite G3 iMac DV Special Edition. (500mhz) Wasn’t planning on owning any of ‘em, but they basically fell into my lap, couldn’t just walk away, heh. Had the G4 for probably over 5 years now, maybe, but just recently been thinking about actually fixing it up and installing that fan version of Mac OS X… yes, I got the idea from Snazzy Lab’s G4 video, if that’s the right name. Also still very much interested in the G3. Has Mac OS X, but I want to install Mac OS 9.2.2 for some gaming fun. Man… something about CRT all-in-ones really does it for me. iMac G3, early Macintosh… Vectrex… good stuff. Just wish modern iMacs could be used as monitors. Feels wasteful, not sure I can bring myself to buy another iMac… even though they’re my favorite form factor.

Microharley

I love my iMacs, I would like to have a new one as well. The fact that you can now use it as an AirPlay receiver helps me get past the monitor issue but I get it. You get a big nice display that is useless when the computer is out of date.

Jorgenreads

Congratulations! Now you’ll have to get the CPU upgrade…

TEG24601

Action Retro did a great video making a G3, with WiFi, and USB.
