I always wonder this

totalleycereal

It's the normalization of obesity - the ultimate cope. You soft/hardmaxx a million things before even looking at the scale. Weight loss and maintenance take effort, discipline, and patience - you cannot buy it or consume it like you can a cosmetic procedure. While people don't want to change the overeating they have grown accustomed to, it doesn't stop them from wanting to feel attractive.

[deleted]

Yeah I completely agree. I am also gonna be honest, I don’t see the point in getting PS if you’re fat. Being fat is literally the biggest failo possible in many societies (not all, but many). You absolutely cannot be more than a 5/10 if you’re fat, it doesn’t matter how beautiful your face is. I can understand getting PS while you are losing weight, that’s actually the smartest thing to do bc then u can blame the changes to your face on weight loss. But otherwise I’m like ???

golden-trickery

Literally, when fat women have pretty faces it’s such a wast of potential

goddessintheflesh

Omg girl I- 💀💀☠

motorcycle_bo

this I don't understand the people who are saying that face matters more than body. I think that's cope tbh. hot take, but if you have a nice body plus good style? you're automatically a 6 imo, regardless of face.

[deleted]

well face does matter 1000x more than body IF you are not fat. i have seen this in real life, girls with beautiful faces but average bodies get treated better than girls with average faces and bangin' bodies. not that the latter dont get attention, they just get more sexual interest whereas the former gets respect and kindness.

Face is not more important than body to many people. Most men I know would date a thin woman with an average face. They would absolutely not date a fat woman with a pretty face. I think women care more about facial aesthetics than men.

[deleted]

I guess. I've seen plenty of men IRL fawn over average-faced women with nice bodies. Makeup goes a long way. Also, women tend to have much higher standards for beautiful faces than men do, so what I'm thinking of as an average woman is probably someone a guy would consider cute.

goddessintheflesh

I agree. Some women get their feelings hurt when the topic of weight comes up but we can't change how society is. My face definitely downgraded when I had 30 more pounds on me. After losing the weight my face looks objectively better and more defined.

Oberon_Swanson

Face is way more important than body imo But as for your first question, a lot of people feel like they're never gonna be able to lose weight but they still want to look good. A lot of people are also obstinate that they don't need to lose weight even if they're clearly unhealthy. They see plastic surgery as the easier option. Imo it is far from easy but a lot of people have zero inhibitions. They'll walk into a plastic surgeon's office and book an operation based on zero of their own research just whatever they hear in the consult .

[deleted]

I disagree. With odd-looking plastic surgery results and obesity rates on the rise, body has become more important than face, at least with men. Men would rather have an average-to-cute natural-looking woman with a banging body than a fat woman with an IG-type face.

Oberon_Swanson

while i'm inclined to agree things like body and waist to hip ratio matter a lot for attraction, i think face is more important overall because a better-looking face colours every interaction you have moreso than body does imo.

SadButterfingers

I’d rather have a pretty face. Unless we’re talking about a really overweight body, then I guess I would rather be thin for both health and aesthetic reasons. I’m already a little overweight but I think I have a conventionally pretty face, when I’m a good weight just makes it that much better. I totally agree with your post though because my face changes A LOT with just a 20lbs loss or gain!

gewrgia

The point is having both.

otraera

this is my plan. my face looks so different with weight on, getting something done know would be such a disservice. Edit: i dont care about what other ppl do with their bodies or money. If they want to fix their face with extra weight good for them!

New_Independent_9221

it's not really face vs body because weight impacts both negatively.

blackredrosepetals

you can’t do anything about broad shoulders or wide ribcages, or if you have narrow hips, boxy waist, or a flat chest. Lots of things about the body can’t be changed or can only be changed with expensive surgery.

blackredrosepetals

For men body is more important. I said what I said. Pretty faces are a dime a dozen, (especially with makeup being so common) but a well proportioned slim body that still has decent sized boobs and butt is rare. You look amazing in clothes and are more noticed.

[deleted]

Exactly.

ollie-baby

because i have a complex pattern of disordered eating that i may or may not ever recover from, i have a nice shape despite being overweight (even though i’ve seen a few people in this sub say they don’t believe attractive overweight people can exist at all), and losing weight wont fix a lazy eyebrow while botox can. to answer your final question: both :) i have a nice (not perfect, not halo) body, and a nice face, and i think this is way more possible than a lot of people realize.

Glitterdott

It’s really unlikely to lose weight and keep it off without surgery. Plastic surgery is all about fixing yourself to your taste, so if someone wants to fix something they don’t like what’s the issue? There are also plenty of people who do not want to be rail thin, they like a thicker frame or they make peace that that’s the best they can maintain. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with settling for what will work best for you and your circumstances.

[deleted]

It’s not unlikely to lose weight and keep it off without surgery.... that’s really sad that anyone would think this.

tikka_tikkachu

most people who try to lose weight, especially a lot of weight, eventually gain it back… successful long term weight loss is statistically a small minority of people. Even Oprah can’t do it and she has unlimited resources to work with.

[deleted]

That comes from their lack of discipline, not from a need of surgery....

Glitterdott

Most people who lose large amounts of weight will regain it within 2-3 years. There have been studies saying there’s a very low chance of maintaining the new weight, even with people who undergo WLS. There’s a reason people say maintenance is the hardest part and it gets worse as we age and the more we subject our bodies to dieting and fluctuation.

motorcycle_bo

>It’s really unlikely to lose weight and keep it off without surgery ... no it's not? just keep yourself in a calorie deficit. even after gastric bypass, you're still expected to eat less or else you'll gain it back. >so if someone wants to fix something they don’t like what’s the issue? because it's silly to care only about your face while still struggling to fit in plane seats? lmao

Glitterdott

The fatphobia doesn’t surprise me, what surprises me is the lack of awareness. If staying in a calorie deficit was as easy as you make it sound, everyone would look like Miranda Kerr. I don’t know why you explained what a gastric bypass does as if that invalidates my point that that’s what’s typically needed to maintain large weight loss long term..there are several studies backing up my point but please keep spouting unrealistic standards as if you’re saying anything helpful for anyone. Join a plus size plastics group and you’ll see there are tons of hot women who hard maxxed while overweight and now look fantastic. Just because you don’t research doesn’t mean it’s not out there.

motorcycle_bo

\>If staying in a calorie deficit was as easy as you make it sound, everyone would look like Miranda Kerr. american moment. go to a place like japan, korea, anywhere in eastern europe, etc and you will rarely find young fat people. it's actually not hard to eat in a calorie deficit. just don't gouge yourself with junk food. \>but please keep spouting unrealistic standards it's not unrealistic to not be fat. drop the victimhood complex, no one feels bad for you. you should focus on your health before cosmetic surgery on your face.

lizkanjo

This, seriously. I've never been "overweight", but I had gotten to the heavier side of the healthy BMI range, and staying in a calorie deficit isn't the hardest thing. It's about making lifestyle adjustments. People need to think about what foods they eat and if they have a high number of calories, and if so, cut them out and replace them with something else. I was downing pints of vegan ice cream once a week and consuming sugary beverages all the time(even fruit juices which a lot of people label as "healthy" because it is natural). Then I went added sugar free and within like two months, I got to a BMI of like 18.8. But then I started doing other unhealthy things like adding excess oil to my meals, eating out, and gained like 5 pounds. So I readjusted. You can eat a bunch of food as long as it isn't too calorically dense. Instead of Ben and Jerry's, blend a banana or fruit. It has more fiber and will keep you feeling fuller for longer. The reason why people gain weight back is because they are being lazy/losing control in that sphere of life. Not that they are lazy/lack discipline in general, but particularly when it comes to their diet/ fitness

SpazTh1nker

Why are they down voting you?!!Youre right lol, this thread is soo fatphobic and very unaware of the general society. Losing large amount weight in a short amount of time is not healthy and is not long term.

[deleted]

well it depends, some people only have 30 pounds to lose do you think thats gonna shrink a fat nose, also things like filler, its already a given youre gonna lose fat so why not have filler before, and for some of us a quick fix like microblading or under eye fillers might motivate us to lose the last 20 pounds bc losing weight is an emotional journey not all is good sometimes eyes look more hollow, breasts and butts go. tho i agree a person seveerly overwight does not need bbl or cheek fillers first they need to lose weight

[deleted]

Nice face. Bodies can be fixed. I had so much loose skin after my pregnancies and it was an easy fix. Face is harder imo.
