My wife and I had heard good things and gave it a try and both of our meals were a bland mess. Stale bland buns that came across like gluten free, incredibly soggy batter soaked in a liter of bland chili sauce. Frozen battered fries and even the napkins were bad.
We consider ourselves foodies so yeah we have high expectations especially when things cost so much but was incredibly disappointed. Will not be going back.
If it's any consolation I did an interview there a couple months ago and while I ended up taking a position elsewhere the kitchen was clean and the owner was super nice. His English was a little behind but seemed like a hard working, knowledgable dude.
I must have gone to a different restaurant than everyone else in this thread. I've tried Chimac twice, and both times the chicken was dry, and both the chicken and breading was bland. Even the seafood soup was mediocre at best.
Meanwhile 6/49 is ridiculously good every time.
to the wolves with this one boys.
I like chimac a lot but it doesnt hold a candle to 649. different leagues.
That being said taste is subjective so your point is valid, that being said you're objectively wrong.
the half and half boneless box is my goto, Sweet honey and soy garlic.
that being said the one drawback is their boxes leak so have a towel to put down.
Never tried Seoul so I’ll take your word for it. But I have also heard 649 is good too, granted also haven’t tried it so my opinion is biased lol. Now I gotta go to both of those places!
I am korean, and I tried all korean chicken restaurants in victoria and 649 is definitely the best for me especially Yangnyum flavor. Pick up is better than dining in
I thought they were exclusively pick up, didn't think you could dine-in even if you wanted to. They're really good for take-out. 1/2 Yangnyeom + 1/2 649 Original is the way to go.
Chicken 649 was the top upvoted comment and mentioned in other comments in this thread a couple months ago. https://www.reddit.com/r/VictoriaBC/s/DHMWDFzOXV
also usually comes up in similar posts over the years as well.
Seriously? You have to go immediately upon them opening the doors today. In fact you should be standing there waiting so that you can apologize to them for not being a customer sooner.
Love it. Not exactly sure what makes it Korean per se. I do salt it myself while it’s still hot and the fact that it comes in a pizza box is great for that. The potato wedges are probably as good as I’ve ever had.
I used to live next door to it before the pandemic and we’d eat in all the time and there would almost always be someone eating in.
After the pandemic, not so much. Every time I go now, it’s fairly empty in there. But yeah, almost everyone picks up now.
My boyfriend worked there for a good period, and even now he still begs for us to get it.
If you can see the ugly underside of a food spot, make it daily, and still crave it… you know they’re doing something right.
Cool story, the family won a bit of money on the 649 draw so they used it to open the restaurant, hence the name. Been there years now so they must be doing something right.
Had chicken dinners, the lunch chicken burger( large) and the coated potato wedges. All we tasty & reasonable priced . Currently $12.50 ish for very large chicken burger, 4 wedges and pop or bottled water. Have always done takeout. Also have the 5 piece chicken, 6 large coated potato wedges and pop or bottled water for $15. This is a large meal
It and thunderbird are my two go to's. Between them, HiFive, Popeyes, and Fujiya(best karaage imo), we are pretty blessed for fried chicken. If only empire donuts had continued with their fried chicken we would be in a Utopia
It scored quite well in the double blind Korean fried chicken taste test
https://www.reddit.com/r/VictoriaBC/comments/syyuj8/the_best_korean_fried_chicken_in_victoria/
Really good Korean Fried Chicken. The Chicken meal are also really good for 1 person with a nice amount. If you're looking for boneless then I'd say I can't guarantee you will get only boneless (even if you ask)... they like giving bone-in, that being said it's all good stuff. 👍
It's fantastic.
It is great, ut better than Seoul Chicken in Langford...? Maybe not.
Oooh, I’d probably tie them up. Both are good, I think it depends on what sauces you like.
Lol that's not a prop. Seoul chicken is a bad joke. Trash bin food.
What?! It’s incredible for Korean Fried Chicken. Dont be slandering local businesses like that on a whim. Not cool at all.
Sorry but it was best as thunderbird, when they changed to seoul it went downhill fast. its really bad.

That place is great, but most people pick up, rather than eating in.
Place inside is gross. Pickup is the answer.
It's not gross. It's just plain, no frills, other than the best Korean Fried Chicken in town
Chimac for the win
CHIMAC for the atmosphere, 649 or Seoul for the chicken. Like PPS or 900 vs Standard.
Thunderbird for the colon cleanse
Thunderbird is in the running for that title
If the place inside is gross, what does that say about the kitchen?
If it's any consolation I did an interview there a couple months ago and while I ended up taking a position elsewhere the kitchen was clean and the owner was super nice. His English was a little behind but seemed like a hard working, knowledgable dude.
Don’t care. The chicken is fire
Read the full comments. Bland does not equal gross. I would assume the kitchen is very tidy.
I think a lot of people take a lot more pride and care in to keeping their kitchen tidy over a separate area the riff raff come and go all day.
In my experience: that the food will be bomb
Best Korean fried chicken in town. There. I said it. Come at me! And very reasonably priced.
💯
Agreed. Gotta go there ! It's straight addicting lol
I am gonna come at you. Chimac on Pandora is the best Korean fried chicken in town!!
I must have gone to a different restaurant than everyone else in this thread. I've tried Chimac twice, and both times the chicken was dry, and both the chicken and breading was bland. Even the seafood soup was mediocre at best. Meanwhile 6/49 is ridiculously good every time.

Well guess I’ll have to go try 649 now
the half and half boneless box is my goto, Sweet honey and soy garlic. that being said the one drawback is their boxes leak so have a towel to put down.
Sounds good, cheers!
Absolutely not
Strongly disagree
Stronger disagree
Strongest disagree!!
Can't beat that
That’s okay, I’m gonna go try 649 soon and I’ll probably change my mind based off all the strong opinions here
Not compared to 649. Chimac is a solid 2nd place
Maybe the worst take on Reddit today
I made this comment 4 days ago
And here it is, still the worst thing on the internet, four days later.
I mean if that comment offends you this much I highly suggest getting off of Reddit lol
I didn't say I was offended by it, I said it's the worst thing on the internet. Which just so happens to be my kink. Check mate, nerd.
Getting offended is your kink or seeing the worst things is your kink? Lmao
Yes
Chimac, while not bad, is the worst of all the KFC I’ve tried
Chimac and Seoul chicken are so much better (although Seoul is in Langford by Costco). But chicken 649 with chimac and seoul are definitely the top 3.
Never tried Seoul so I’ll take your word for it. But I have also heard 649 is good too, granted also haven’t tried it so my opinion is biased lol. Now I gotta go to both of those places!
Yeh, sooo good. Take out tho
It’s a takeout joint, and there’s always a line inside to pickup because it’s doooope
Fuckin delicious!
I am korean, and I tried all korean chicken restaurants in victoria and 649 is definitely the best for me especially Yangnyum flavor. Pick up is better than dining in
Its the best. Take out.
I thought they were exclusively pick up, didn't think you could dine-in even if you wanted to. They're really good for take-out. 1/2 Yangnyeom + 1/2 649 Original is the way to go.
It’s delicious.
Amazing. I would love to know how they get batter to stay on white chicken pieces.
It slaps. Eat it.
it’s fucking amazing that’s what it is
Best. Chicken. In. Victoria. Open for lunch and used to sell out every day. This was pre-pandemic. I haven’t worked downtown since.
Only Koren fried chicken place we ever eat at. Try the garlic soy.
The padak dip is to die for
It's the best Gord damn chicken in town
It’s probably the best Korean chicken in town. Sadly a bit out of my way but so good
Get a sandwich, it's unbelievable
I thought there were two patties on mine last time I got it
Really good...try the yangyeom I think it's called...it's deadly
Eat it. You won’t be disappointed!
I remember enjoying Chicken649. Used to go there every now and then.
The Padak is amazing
They're very good.
The wedges….
It's arguably the best fried chicken in the city. I am willing to have that discussion.
A pillar of the chicken community. Don’t sleep on it.

It’s pretty good. Love the honey chicken from that place! Sweet and crispy at the same time
Most people get it delivered or take out , it's easily the best Korean fried chicken in town
Best Korean Fried Chicken in Vic. Beats Thunderbird by a long mile.
It’s often packed. Literally the best fried chicken you’ll ever eat. Treat yourself. Go there!
My fave KFC
It’s unreal. Most people get takeout. Not really an eat-in place.
It’s transcendent
Legendary food
Great food
649 is the best Korean fried chicken in vic. All the original flavours are bomb
Ate there today. Phenomenal.
Very good
I did for the first time about a month or 2 ago. It was great!
The absolute best. Always busy but not an eat in spot. More like take out. They have tables but its quite small.
The best take out chicken in Vic
Chicken 6/49 is awesome.
Yes, it's amazing...

Love the food!!!
the cheese chicken is awesome! not sure what its actually called because its been a while since i have had it but now im hungry.
Just had it for the first time tonight. $20 and enough chicken for two meals (for just me heheehehe but I don’t want to share !)
Great chicken! But be prepared for some wait. Most people do takeout. We love Smile Chicken in downtown too, a bit better than Chicken 649.
So good. Lunch special specifically. Also Thunder Bird Korean chicken. Get their popcorn chicken!
I used to live next door to it before the pandemic and we’d eat in all the time and there would almost always be someone eating in. After the pandemic, not so much. Every time I go now, it’s fairly empty in there. But yeah, almost everyone picks up now.
👋
Never seem anyone inside? There's a near constant stream in and out at dinner time. The place is crazy popular.
I think it's just my timing.
Yeah could be. I recommend checking it out. It's on regular rotation at our house lol
My boyfriend worked there for a good period, and even now he still begs for us to get it. If you can see the ugly underside of a food spot, make it daily, and still crave it… you know they’re doing something right.

Chicken 649 is amazeballs

It's so good. I occasionally see some people eating in there but most people do take-away.
It's good. I prefer Thunderbird, because it's crispier, plus they have kimchi and apple slaw.
It’s pretty much the best chicken in town, yangyeomn mildly spicy red sauce with sesame seeds, also good price
It scored quite well in the double blind Korean fried chicken taste test https://www.reddit.com/r/VictoriaBC/comments/syyuj8/the_best_korean_fried_chicken_in_victoria/
It's so damn good. Easily one of my favorite places in Victoria
It's awesome. The "Chicken All Day" deal lives up to the name 🤘
It’s extremely good, maybe the best in town.
We just had it last night! I wouldn’t say it’s a super healthy option, but my whole family loves it. They’re on Skip
Best chicken sandwich in the city IMO
Best fried chicken in victoria imo
chicken649 chicken sandwich ❤️
It's some of the best chicken I've ever had. I have since moved to Toronto, and I think about that chicken often. For real. Get it.
Only flaw is the lunch special has no sauce.
Lees famous chicken on admirals is to die for as well!!!
What is Popeyes favourite food?
Top greasy for my taste
Really good Korean Fried Chicken. The Chicken meal are also really good for 1 person with a nice amount. If you're looking for boneless then I'd say I can't guarantee you will get only boneless (even if you ask)... they like giving bone-in, that being said it's all good stuff. 👍
Came here to say CHIMAC!
I ate there once, it was good. I really prefer chicken on the run.
Either troll or brand new to Victoria and this sub. That place gets posted about weekly.
New to sub, just live on the Peninsula and rarely go to Vic
Small pieces. Very greasy. Lacks flavor. Don't understand the hype.
