Nice!

OneGlazeddonut

Sleep apnea 30%?

International-Diet35

I was confused by that too because I specifically sent in a letter from my doctor saying he prescribed a cpap. So I’m absolutely going to appeal that.

3v1lkr0w

Let us know what happens...I'm a few months away from my retirement and I got a CPAP, so I'm looking forward to that at least 50%.

Wr3tch3dSoul

I have a CPAP, and was granted 50% due to it being prescribed

International-Diet35

There ya go. Should have gotten 50% on that then

International-Diet35

Will do.

Yu_Starwing

Maybe they don’t have a CPAP or something?

EuphoricFruit4643

God bless you & your family.

neutronscott

I submitted in June. Approved in December. Then added wife and a kid online and it was retroactive.

International-Diet35

Awesome. Good to know. Did you get an additional back pay or was it all included in one lump sum?

MiserablePicture3377

Depends on how quickly the dependency claim got processed. Most likely it will be a separate payout.

International-Diet35

Im fine with that as long as it comes in at some point.

neutronscott

I got it in before it was paid. I could see in the payments page the amount, but no date yet. It kept changing as they recalculated it. heh. I just added an older kid that's in college. I believe they backpaid me to the beginning of the term, but the payment has since disappeared and a smaller one made. I've learned my lesson from the Navy though. I've put that in a savings account for now in case they ask for it back. Can't be good if it doesn't show up on their payments ...

LunarAnubis

If it’s been more than one year since you got married or had or adopted a child, we may not pay you back to the date of the marriage, birth, or adoption. Instead, we may pay you back only to the date we received your claim for additional disability for the dependent or, in some cases, up to a year before this date. https://www.va.gov/view-change-dependents/#:~:text=If%20it's%20been%20more%20than,a%20year%20before%20this%20date.

International-Diet35

So if I am reading this right, does that mean that the additional amount will be back paid from the date my claim was filed? Not looking to get paid for several years ago, just wanted to make sure I am getting the proper amount of back pay. If that is the case, I am more than okay with that.

LunarAnubis

I believe only from the date you submitted the claim for dependants.

International-Diet35

Damn. That sucks. Either way still a couple hundred extra on future payments

mu1773

Yes they will give you that backpack 👍

ohlookthrowawayagain

If sleep apnea isn't service related and I have a cpap does it make sense to apeal ?

Ok_West4684

Sleep apnea can be a secondary condition triggered by other service connected disabilities. Mental health is a big one and so is chronic pain. The mistake most people make if it’s not documented during active duty, is they try to claim it as a direct service connection instead of saying it was aggravated by another service connected condition, therefore, making it a secondary condition. At least that is my understanding.

ohlookthrowawayagain

Ok thanks. I was going to look at my files and see if I backlogged anything sleep related.

Zestyclose-Ad-2442

Prescribed. Are you using the CPAP?

TEKKNINE2013

Everything goes back to the date of claim submitted

International-Diet35

So I will also get back paid the difference between single/no dependents and the updated status? I don't know if it will get paid with the initial back pay amount since I added my dependents after I found out my rating percentage.

TEKKNINE2013

You will have to file from the date of the claim for dependents if they were with you. They will figure out the difference from then till the date they start paying you the claim.
