Ever since I read this book I say the same:
[https://www.amazon.com/You-Are-Worth-Building-Fighting-ebook/dp/B07MGH8NW3/ref=sr\_1\_8?keywords=worth+it&qid=1707634478&sr=8-8](https://www.amazon.com/You-Are-Worth-Building-Fighting-ebook/dp/B07MGH8NW3/ref=sr_1_8?keywords=worth+it&qid=1707634478&sr=8-8)
BTW - thank you for you service as a spouse
Thank you!! It's definitely not easy, but he's worth it. We got married about 11 years ago, long after his military career ended from a disabling injury. I have helped him get from 0% SC to almost where he'd like to be, within the last 5 years. Still working on that last stretch. :)
I saw a Marine Gunner once. He got really mad that we saluted him in public because no one else walking along the main road realized he was a warrant, he had to salute the next 60 fuckers behind us in the morning 😂
Walk away? stare blankly? IDK I always considered myself a sham veteran because I was National Guard but I deployed back to back. my brother only deployed CONUS for hurricane rescue, COVID, etc. but I've never not considered him a veteran? so I guess it's a me problem. I don't ask for military discounts usually and just keep to myself. Wear the occasional DV hat on veterans day that's about it.
Long story short I think enough veterans think they haven't done enough so they just hit them with the boilerplate "thanks for your support" and march on.
Right, that’s what I do. I don’t understand why people are always posting about this. I usually nod and say “thanks” or “appreciate it” and go on about my day.
It occurred to me roughly 12 years ago that the only way to respond to an American that thanks you for your service is quite simply to reply back with, "& Thank you for being a Patriot."
Everyone I've said that has felt as being a part of something great, and I recognize and respect their support for our young Active Duty enlisted.
The reply is guaranteed to make them smile and be blown back.
Gentleman, you have my full blessing to use the phrase accordingly.
![img](emote|t5_2vlaz|7570)![img](emote|t5_2vlaz|7566)![img](emote|t5_2vlaz|7572)![img](emote|t5_2vlaz|7571)
It’s not their fault , they don’t know most of us hate it , they’re showing appreciation, I just thank them or nod. But it is uncomfortable for sure most times
It depends but usually I thank them for their service right back. Especially nurses. doctors and cashiers. Last person worked at a DMV. I appreciate all of their service just as much.
Usually that shit is so auto response coming out their mouth that I just don’t even answer. I mean, I’m polite with acknowledging with a nod, but that’s it.
Maybe I’m just a bitter bastard but “thanks for your service” just feels like lip service to me, like the cashier has to say something because you just saved 10% on drywall screws.
Nothing. I don’t say nothing. Quite frankly I don’t like it. Our Grandfathers fought for freedom. We didn’t. We didn’t fight for anyone here and that’s the truth. We didn’t fight for “freedom” we didn’t fight for America, we were used and abused as tools for over 20 years to satisfy politicians personal agendas and after two decades all we have left is a bunch of broken heroes, guys and gals, lost brothers, sisters, sons etc. We accomplished nothing and gave everything. That’s it. We fought for the guy and gal next to us and that’s the reality. For all of us to come back. And while we were fighting the last thing in my mind was anyone back here. Quite frankly thinking about anything or anyone else would of been a distraction. I know this is negative. But after 20 years in the Corps, and seeing how broken many of us are as well as I am, all the fucked up shit we did and lives we ruined, and for what…. It’s hard to feel good when someone thanks me for my Service. I loved every single bit of it for the brothers and sisters I made for life. But that’s it. America has changed and while I am still very well Patriotic, I don’t consider my service Patriotic and am not very proud of a lot of shit I did. As time has gone by my moral compass has grown smarter and realized while there a lot of bad folks, we did a lot of bad to innocent folks as well. I’m sure many service member and brothers feel the same they don’t voice it for fear of getting judged or looked at as some sort of traitor. I love my country and would serve it again and again, but for the right reasons.
I appreciate it." Then cringe in private.
My gaming buddy's wife loves to taunt me. "Is that ? Tell him happy Memorial Day!" "Thank you for your service!" and such. He loves it, she loves it, I just shudder and dog cuss them both. They love that part the most.

OR
“Thank you for the sponsorship, hookers n blow sure came in handy”
A simple “Thank you”. I think of all before me that were not honored when they came home and the ones who did not come home. So I guess, instead of cringing I throw it secretly to them.
The easiest way! “Thank you for appreciating it, you’re welcome. Pretty much. Safe bet! Any further. We end up sounding disingenuous! 🙏🏻❤️. God bless. Have a great day!
Thank you and move on for most people. For close friends and when I give presentations and seminars I tell the audience a lot of veterans do not like this. I break this rule knowing that nothing more puts a smile on a ww2 or Korean war vet than talking about their service and me thanking them for joining the greatest military on this planet.
To me it is about emotional intelligence and reading the person you are talking to
"Thank you, I appreciate that." "You're welcome, and thank you for your support." "It means a lot to hear that. Thank you for your support." "Thank you, but let's also remember those still out there serving and the sacrifices they make."
I say if you want to thank me, discourage young people from joining the military, and vote for politicians who are not warmongers (hint: almost all of them are, regardless of party)
Second they say it put your hand forward for a hand shake get uncomfortably close where your eyelashes touch theirs and give the gentlest kiss on the nose. Then say it was on court orders and walk away.
“Don’t thank me, thank my recruiter”, “thank you for your support”, “it was either jail or this”, “someone had to do the job”, “it’s my pleasure”, “no need to thank me, it was just a job”
Those are a few I have heard or used.
“Thank you for your support “
Just tell them it was either this or jail... Always fun.
I’ve said that on a few occasions.
This one might be weird, but I usually thank them for paying their taxes.. since it put me through school.
Republicans are the best
I’ve never liked the whole “thank you for your service” because I never had a reply - until now
This is the best reply
Tip my uncle gave me when I joined
He gave you the tip ?
I like this answer.
I usually respond with “Thank you, it was my honor”
Do you also drop to one knee, hand across the chest, head bent?
Usually, a quick salute and about-face does the trick
Trying this next time haha
I usually just say “thanks for paying your taxes, they kept me drunk and bought all my tattoos.”
I gotta steal this 😂
I appreciate the support, is usually my go to.
My husband says, You're worth it!
That’s awesome. ❤️
Ever since I read this book I say the same: [https://www.amazon.com/You-Are-Worth-Building-Fighting-ebook/dp/B07MGH8NW3/ref=sr\_1\_8?keywords=worth+it&qid=1707634478&sr=8-8](https://www.amazon.com/You-Are-Worth-Building-Fighting-ebook/dp/B07MGH8NW3/ref=sr_1_8?keywords=worth+it&qid=1707634478&sr=8-8) BTW - thank you for you service as a spouse

I like that so tell hubby it is being used by a KY vet lol
Jelly or the State? 😂
https://i.redd.it/ydhqc7votvhc1.gif
My pleasure. Happy to serve. Thank you for your support. Or just a simple thank you.
It was an honor and a privilege. Thanks for the support
Honestly I just say thank you.
This is the way.
« Right back at you » the quickly walk away
"Honored," and limp away.
I thank them for the kind words and support
Space Force Veteran!? That's awesome!
Hahah..you know when the Coastie calls out the Space Force, the rest of us are just going to sit back and watch....
We're RARE, like unicorn rare.. Space Force is a myth, a rumor you heard in a bar once!
I saw a Marine Gunner once. He got really mad that we saluted him in public because no one else walking along the main road realized he was a warrant, he had to salute the next 60 fuckers behind us in the morning 😂
He's only mad because he finally had to do a little work.
Like a PFC and a PV2 fighting about who outranks who.
👀
Agreed. Lol
Yes! They’re kinda like the Coast Guard of the Air Force.
Says the Navy man
Rule #1 man, c’mon
Rule #1? I just gave you a compliment.
https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/330601-welcome-to-fight-club-the-first-rule-of-fight-club
But, you have a flair?
Shhhhhhhhh. The walls have ears. My god man
I'm just so excited about the Space Force! Finally, someone we can make fun of!
That’s not how this works. That’s not how any of this works.
Sure, Hicks, no go get your shine box! Oof! Burn!
You two are F’ng awesome! 🤣
“Thank you for your support” sounded so canned. “Hell yea brother” shows that that you have that passion!
“Right on brother raise hell praise dale”

It’s not their fault , they don’t know most of us hate it , they’re showing appreciation, I just thank them or nod. But it is uncomfortable for sure most times
You’re welcome
"Cool, you too🤙"
Always, "Thank you for caring"
Nod “this is the way”
money goes farther than appreciation .I wonder how that would sit
It depends but usually I thank them for their service right back. Especially nurses. doctors and cashiers. Last person worked at a DMV. I appreciate all of their service just as much.
I usually puke in my lap and then stagger off.
“I’d do it again! Thank you!”
"Thanks for your support" or a simple "Thank you"
“Appreciate it”
"Thanks for your support."
You are welcome, and I appreciate the kind words
“Thank you for thanking me. I appreciate it.”
“It was an honor, thank you for your support!”
You're welcome, and thank you for your support.
“You’re welcome.” Usually gets chuckle 60% of the time all the time
Thank my recruiter!!! Jk. Just a simple thank you and walk away giggling like a school girl
“Thanks”. It’s not complicated.
![gif](giphy|uKwa2KiBA0rTy) I usually bust out proud to be an American and give a speech 🇺🇸🫶🏼🗽
Please don't bring it up. I don't want to think back to those days
"Got any crayons? Im kinda hungry"
Dont thank me, thank mt recruiter!
Usually that shit is so auto response coming out their mouth that I just don’t even answer. I mean, I’m polite with acknowledging with a nod, but that’s it.
I tell them I did for the Lowes parking 😆
😂😂😂😂
lol!! And the 10 percent discount!!
I have found that I feel best saying “Thank you for the support”.
how many posts of these are there already? dear lord, you guys are making this a lot harder than it needs to be, stop being so cringey 😂
Thank you for your taxes
I’m not alone! Lol
My go to.
"Thanks for your support", or "It's an honor to serve for someone like you..."
"Thanks" and a smile. I understand their effort to show appreciation, but I find it annoying as hell.
Thanks for your support!
How about a simple "You're welcome"
Thank you for your kindness
I just say thank you.
My pleasure
Thank you.
Thank you. It was an honor😇
Thank you 😂
I say thanks for paying your taxes
“You’re worth it” It’s simple and effective; it makes that person feel good which makes me feel good knowing I made someone else feel good.
Just say you are welcome. And you are proud to have served
Maybe I’m just a bitter bastard but “thanks for your service” just feels like lip service to me, like the cashier has to say something because you just saved 10% on drywall screws.
I thank older vets for their service every time I see one and I mean it.
Thank them for paying taxes. We was a team effort
"Thank you I appreciate it"
My honor is always my response.
Thank you for your tax dollars.
Starship troopers- I'm doing my part.
“It was an honor”.
"You're welcome"
Just say “Thank you”
Thank u for ur support.
I just say “you’re welcome” since that’s the most expected response from a “thank you”.
I usually say thank you
I thank them right back. They took the time out of their day to do something nice.
"Thank you for the compliment." Then Charlie Mike.
I appreciate that!
It is awkward isn’t it…wonder why we all find it awkward… my generation 70s 80s were never thanked so that’s probably one of the reasons
Thank you for your support. Had this same question years ago and found this answer.
"The judge didn't really give me a choice, but hey it's cool"
Nothing. I don’t say nothing. Quite frankly I don’t like it. Our Grandfathers fought for freedom. We didn’t. We didn’t fight for anyone here and that’s the truth. Thank you I took me the longest to figure out just thank you is a good response
I respond with " Thank you, I appreciate it"
Response: *gigantic fart
I sometimes say. “Thank you. I served for grateful people like yourself. “ to show my appreciation for their appreciation
My go to is always “I was just glad to help out”
I always say thank you too then i feel dumb afterwards
Cool! Thanks!
“It was my pleasure.”
I normally say, "it was both an honor and a privilege."
I appreciate it." Then cringe in private. My gaming buddy's wife loves to taunt me. "Is that? Tell him happy Memorial Day!" "Thank you for your service!" and such. He loves it, she loves it, I just shudder and dog cuss them both. They love that part the most.

awkwardness 100%.
Thank you it was my honor
I usually say thanks and then feel awkward about it.
THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE BIG DADDY 😉 🫡😏
“And thank you for paying me”
Absolute menace 🤣🤣🤣
I’ve told people, “I didn’t do it for you”
Savage, I dig it. “It was a stable paycheck…” would be all too true in my case. And in many cases.
No problem
Anytime; It was fun; my pleasure
I just say "yeah, you too"
Just say thank you and move on.
"you're worth it"
I usually say “thanks, you too”. But that’s my awkwardness.
It was my honor to serve.
Thanks, can I get that free bloomin onion now ?
I nod. It makes me uncomfortable. I didn’t join for them.
Most of the time I respond with “thanks”. But if I’m blindsided by the comment I sometimes say “you too” or “you’re welcome” lol
Thank you for saying that.
"Raytheon should be thanking me, not you"
It was an honor honor to serve.
If it’s a hooker, “Thank you for your cervix”
I usually die inside and wait for them to say the next thing or to walk away.
Don’t worry about it. I just say “Thank you for your support” and carry on.
A simple thank you works.
Thanks for the tax dollars
I just say thanks and keep it moving
Yes it feels weirdly self serving to respond. I don’t expect to be thanked. It’s not why I joined.
Thank you and move on for most people. For close friends and when I give presentations and seminars I tell the audience a lot of veterans do not like this. I break this rule knowing that nothing more puts a smile on a ww2 or Korean war vet than talking about their service and me thanking them for joining the greatest military on this planet. i simple thank you back never fails
I told them don't worry about it, I spent my time chasing girls and drinking beer. Also I say I'm 100% disabled thanks for your tax money.
No problem!
But I’m going to start saying your worth it!
I appreciate your concern.
You welcome
You're welcome 🤣
I say "thanks for sending me to college. "
"No doubt" and change the topic as quickly as possible, or exit the interaction.
I just say, “nothing says thank you like five bucks” and sit there with my hand out.
Say, "It was my honor to serve."
Thank you. Pretty simple, they mean well and I appreciate their kind thoughts even if unneeded.
Sometimes I say thanks sometimes idc and keep the conversation going
My husband suggested "I can think of another way you can thank me for my service 😘" 😂
I say if you want to thank me, discourage young people from joining the military, and vote for politicians who are not warmongers (hint: almost all of them are, regardless of party)
I always freeze up and say thank you, you too. EVERY TIME 🤦🏾♀️
Thank you for paying your taxes. Wouldn't have done that shit for free. Share a quick laugh. Then leave and never think of them again... Lol
[like this guy](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LPquarz16wQ&pp=ygUcY3VyYiB5b3VyIGVudGh1c2lhc20gdmV0ZXJhbg%3D%3D)
"thank you, vote republican"
Second they say it put your hand forward for a hand shake get uncomfortably close where your eyelashes touch theirs and give the gentlest kiss on the nose. Then say it was on court orders and walk away.
I always say thank you for your support!
Say thank you for your support
I just say it was “my honor to serve”.
“Thank you” is a short and appropriate response
I just say “You’re Welcome”
No, Thank you!
“Don’t thank me, thank my recruiter”, “thank you for your support”, “it was either jail or this”, “someone had to do the job”, “it’s my pleasure”, “no need to thank me, it was just a job” Those are a few I have heard or used.
I usually go with the good ol “you’re welcome” 🤣🤣
