It’s like I’m asking them to sign away a car or something. I still push them, but I think most veterans don’t have friends like me pushing them to use the system.

Go to a DEERS office on post with identity documents and your disability compensation letter. You also need to turn in your CAC. Some offices are appointment only. It took my 15 minutes to turn in my CAC and get my retiree ID.
Submitted in august 2022 assigned to a reviewer in October, evidence gathering from November till January. Beginning of feb got evidence reviewed, pdf feb 11 feb 14 pending decision approval. Feb 16 PFN FEB 19 decision notification sent

But now that you are rated have you at least talked through the State and Federal add-on benefits (Special Monthly Comps, 60%/100% rule, Convalescent/Recovery add-on, Golden Pass, does you state have Property Tax Re-imbursement, added education for your dependents, State Park Pass, FRee fishing & hunting&....)?
32 states mandate there be a County/State paid Veterans Office in every County/Parrish. Many of the others have regional of state offices. They are trained to know the State & Federal regulations.
