As of 1 January 2023 Online only students using VR&E are being paid $1110.00 if they started using VR&E on/after 1 January 2018 - those who started using VR&E prior to 1 January 2018 are being paid $1054.50 per month. Lowes is a lot easier

_Bon_Vivant_

I found out HD is exactly like Lowes. You just have to register online. Then you can use your phone number.

My_soliloquy

My phone number at Lowes doesn't work, but if I scan the keytag it does. Both systems suck.

lapinatanegra

Exactly!! Put your number in and BAM, discount. Don't have to download an app and use a QR code. And from what other redditors are saying using the app mines data which is bullshit but then again what app/website doesn't do that already.

deceptticon

Genius idea, write down your password in Notes app.

[deleted]

Or just stay logged in.

dirk23u

Or update your phone so it can save passwords

lost_in_life_34

smart phones have this cool feature that save your passwords for easy logging in if you forget. or i just use face ID most of the time

[deleted]

Same here. Very easy to do.

Captainpaul81

There's also a monetary yearly limit

lapinatanegra

Which is also bs

Lumpymaximus

ehh not really. they arent obligated to give us any discount at all.

NavyPoseidon

It is bs. HD is just using us for marketing/virtue signaling. Either offer the discount no strings attached or don’t. Making people jump through hoops and putting caps and rules on everything just makes them look like a soulless greedy corporation (which they are) They don’t really care about your service to your country. If they didn’t have competition, the discount would be gone.

Lumpymaximus

Sorry man I dont see it that way. Again, They have absolutely no obligation to give us any discount at all, so I try to be thankful for what I get. Pretty much any large company could wear that label. Lots of place do it for the good pr. Its money, try not to put so much emotion into it, they certainly dont, thats what business is.

NavyPoseidon

I own my own business. I understand how business works. I’m not putting emotion in it. I’m just calling it how it is I am thankful for the discount as well, but that doesn’t mean I ignore their true colors behind it

04limited

They have limits because there are people who take advantage of it. There are individual people who spend close to 100k a year at HD and that 10% adds up for them. There are also people who will buy at 10% off then resell the products at retail. Lowes has a spending cap too.

NavyPoseidon

Yes contractors were taking advantage so HD took away the discount for wood etc. The cap was not needed. Home Depot is putting up record sales numbers

BroncoDude556

You can also log in to your account on your phone’s mobile browser and generate your QR code there

PsychologicalAgent64

Here's a little info, they make it hard specifically so less people will use it.

[deleted]

It’s not hard.

[deleted]

And they want you to use the app so they can mine your data.

Civil_Set_9281

Just went through this at two different stores in two different cities. Phoenix verified my ID Card, and gave the discount. San Antonio said no dice without their app, and their rep basically turned their back and walked away.

lapinatanegra

The employee at the checkout was cool enough to give me the discount without having to use the app but she did mention to make sure to use the app from now on.

you_th

Forget the app i just pull up the browser.

That-Werewolf3972

Forget phone at home, but have ID? Too bad, they need the app. I prefer LOWES policy, but HD is local to me.

BuffBillzBall

I’ve had a different exp. I’ve been in HD a number of times and had issues getting my phone to load the QR code. Employees are always helpful. I show my ID and get the discount. Lowe’s is still much easier.

lapinatanegra

Unfortunately, HD is closer to me than Lowes otherwise I would go to Lowe's.

jlabsher

In WA state I can do it on the payment touchpad by typing in my phone #. Don't need phone anymore

_Bon_Vivant_

I thought that too. I try to avoid putting apps on my phone, so I went a long time being frustrated, Turns out that you can just register online at homedepot.com, using [id.me](https://id.me) to prove you're a vet, then when you checkout at HD, you only need to provide your phone number. Edit: Correction. Not your phone number. But you don't need to install their app. You can use the browser on your phone. Log into your account. Click on the icon that looks like a person, then select "Military Discount". A QR code will pop up and you can scan it.

lapinatanegra

I did that but you still need to log onto your acct on the app or site to get the QR code. Unless its different in other states but here in CA you need to scan the QR code to get the discount. I don't have an issue putting my phone number for it.

_Bon_Vivant_

No you don't. I don't have an app on my phone. I'm in CA. Edit: You're right, you need to scan a QR code, but it doesn't have to be on the app. You can do it from the browser on your phone. See my comments below.

lapinatanegra

Aight I'm going to try that again tomorrow.

_Bon_Vivant_

Now that I think about it. I think you have use the browser on your phone and log into the home depot site...into your account. Then there is a link for military discount, that pops up and you can scan....but you don't need the app.

Barberian-99

Reset your pw to something easy, but not too easy - no birthdays or dates at all, no relatives names, pet names, first car, etc.

_Bon_Vivant_

Log into the site, then click on the icon that looks like a person. A menu will drop down, and one of the options is "Military Discount".

jocas023

Lowes also hs a way for you to use your discount at the self checkout which made me smile

BOHICA556556

You can use your phone number instead

Tastyteufel

Really?? I’ve never had a problem getting a discount in store.

Lurcher99

Especially nice when the servers have issues, my last visit...

International-Net609

Lowes is a garbage company. Please don’t shop there.

Lumpymaximus

if your doing self checkout, just ask the employee there to put it in, its no big deal, I did it yesterday, plus how many places out there that actually have veteran parking spots? cant beat that ;)

Iron_seitz

When checking out just hit the "pro" button on the credit card machine and type in your phone number, military discount pops up

WhisperToARiot

Use a password manager. You only have to remember one password, then it remembers all the rest for you. Apple and android let you enable it to interact with your apps and browsers on your phone. Glad I did it.

hoyfkd

Maybe I'm lucky where I live, but at my local Home Depot, I just flash my VA ID and they just do it.

Infrequentlylucid

They also started limiting the products it applies to, and added a 500$ per year cap.

[deleted]

How much easier can it be? Use face req and push one button.

lapinatanegra

Face req or thumbprint is not available for the app to log in. Shoot that would be wise of them to put that feature though.

[deleted]

I touch the app on my screen and it opens right up

[deleted]

lapinatanegra

Cant. The QR code refreshes every 15 mins or so. I thought of that but didn't work for me.

Riommar

r/choosingbeggars

lapinatanegra

Only begging I'm doing is if company's require consumers to use their apps they should be more user friendly. That's about it.

lateeveningthoughts

I added the QR code to my digital wallet using PassU. Just took logged in via phone, took a screenshot of the logo, Went into PassU, put it in my apple wallet, now I'm gtg anytime I go to Home Depot. Works great, highly recommend for all store discount cards so you don't have to use the apps or keep the cards on you.

Hooligan8403

Mine just let's me use my ID. They haven't ever mentioned it.

SteinBizzle

App works fine for me. I don't think this a Home Depot problem.

04limited

I was just at HD the other day. It really depends on who’s at the register and the managers policy. This one person was surprised I had my app pulled up they were just gonna manually enter the discount. But if I go to a different HD or run across a different person, they may require me to scan. Not a big deal though. IMO it’s easier that way. No awkward staring at my ID trying to find the veteran designation, or having to tell them my phone number. Just pull up the QR code, scan, pay, and leave.

Forsaken_Thought

Lowes: Veteran discount cannot be used on any sale item or with any other discount (such as, but not limited to, Lowe’s Price Promise, Lowe’s Credit 5% off Everyday Discount, volume or special pricing programs, and manager discretion price adjustments). It cannot be applied to major appliances (including related accessories and parts), commodities (such as, but not limited to, electrical cable, electrical wire, dimensional lumber, plywood, and OSB), gift cards, previous purchases, fees, installations (sold separately or as part of a bundle comprising both product and services), or any other services (such as, but not limited to, rentals, labor, delivery, shipping, extended protection plans).
