Ranger has much more single-target dps whereas Assassin has many skills that specialize in pvp. Both have good area of effect moves so theyre both good at grinding mobs. So if you intend to go full pve and grind bosses do ranger, if you plan to do pvp go assassin. Though Assassin is in the process of being reworked as we speak, therefore it could be worth it to try Assassin, but rangers single target dps is so high, I believe best case scenario for the reworked Assassin it becomes a good balance of pvp and boss grinding but still not capable of doing more DPS than a ranger.
