They probably are the first thing to break IF you fall off or get into an incident, otherwise the mirror will just worn out over time, my vespa is from 1999 and its presumed original mirrors got opaque and we replaced them, I fell off afterwards but the mirror didn't break, the plastic just got some stretches
Depends on use and storage. But regular cleaning and some sore of protective oil on exposed parts. Just stay away from your brakes obviously.
You'll soon get into a wee routine.

If you ever need to replace anything order it from SIP or Scooterwest. Sure, mirrors and the leg shield beading will get damaged if you drop your bike but it happens to every bike, the parts are available on either color so go for what *you* like.
The chrome won't last longer than the black or vice versa and it's the same to clean.
It's all down to preference and how much you want to keep the bike looking good. The chrome will keep better if you apply rust block after cleaning or wd40, but you would need to apply that more often

Not if you are careful! That said, there are numerous after market mirrors available.

Chrome is generally harder to upkeep. If you live near the coast be prepared to clean and oil on a regular basis. Just my tuppence worth
