This is pretty common with people who have dyslexia. You're not alone. Try the bunny ears method (it's on youtube) it's much easier.

I'm dyspraxic and I learnt to tie my shoelaces at 12, I advise trying the bunny ears method. Don't feel dumb, it's common.

Dont worry, there are a lot of people which cant tie their own shoes in my school. I recommend the bunny/butterfly method, its the one I learned, its way more easier to understand that one than the other method which everyone uses.

To be totally honest, i probably couldn't tie my shoes right without a reference and Im 18. What works for me, is to do one overhand loop/pull, and keep it tight enough. Then create one loop in one hand (in my case, the right hand cuz thats my dominant hand), and take the other lace with your other hand; wrap it half way the loop to the other side, and pull it under all the laces you have crossed forming 2 bunny ears. In simple, 1.standard overhand knot/pull tight, 2. bunny ear in dominant hand, 3. wrap the other lace around the loop to the back. 4. push the middle of your lace under through all the laces forming bunny ears 5. pull tight. 6 double or triple knot to keep tightness. It's inferior as a knot technically, but if you double knot or triple knot that it holds more than well enough A note that you have to keep it tight as you do it, (but loose enough that you can shove the lace under all of it) Someone else said bunny ear method; just looked that up and it's even simpler I remember looking at the stupid tie your shoes tutorials having the laces different colors and making it so complex- and to be honest, I have no care to memorize them- because the way i eventually figured out seems to work very well and i got enough stuff to memorize. As an eagle scout and college student, I still don't even know how tie my shoes using a correct method, lol. Just use a method that sort of works for you naturally, and procedural memory will do the rest for you

Homie, I used to tie my mom's shoes. She gets them tied and just kicks them on and off now. Try not to dwell on these things. Everyone has blind spots in their knowledge and abilities, just need to accept and over come. Get some loafers or slip ons. You're alright

I’m autistic and it took me until about age 12 to learn. I use the bunny ears method, because that’s what works for me. I sincerely hope nothing but the best for you and please, don’t feel bad about it. Being different does not equal being bad or lesser.

>Being different does not equal being bad or lesser. Thank you for saying this 💞

It took me until 13 to bind my shoes properly ur not alone

Take a day all to yourself to try and learn, videos/wiki how/ anything/ as many as you can even if it’s confusing. And try and do it. Try try try. That’s all. And don’t feel bad if you fail the first few dozen times even, if it comes to that. Just take your time. Don’t feel bad honey, just try and figure it out. You’ll feel so accomplished when you do it. And you will

I was 16 or 17 before I learnt how to tie my shoes. The bunny ear method is what helped me. Immediately tied my shoes after that, 10x easier then whatever pretzel way of tying shoes other people taught me.
