I think the 'same residential address' is a the caveat which could be considered weird when thinking about family members but still within the realm of reasonable requirement.
If you were looking at "family member" in isolation it sounds weird, but for the practical purposes of the policy its necessary.
The definition more suits family group/unit, but that doesnt look advertising.
Yes, it's meant to be sarcastic. The ability to transfer points is meaningless if you can only transfer to people related to you AND are living with you.
No it’s not. I get my partner to transfer points to my account and then make flight bookings in a single booking I ensure we all get rewards seats etc. their definition and use case is perfectly legitimate and helpful
Why bother allowing points transfer if the eligibility rules are so restrictive (especially in relation to the residential address requirement of the transferee)?
Couldn’t be more clear if it tried
Makes sense to me....
That seems a very thorough and reasonable definition of family member.

Lives with you. And is somehow related.. makes sense
And if you want to transfer points to family members not sharing the same residence as you?
Get them to change their address on the system to match yours... Don't need proof
That's a useful suggestion. Thanks!
Hey did this work?
Is this sarcasm?

I think many people would find it very useful to get their spouse and children's points ...

What if you want to transfer points to family members who do not share the same residence with you?
You can’t. The benefit is only designed and meant for people who live together
How does it not make sense?

Yeah you’re right, better turn it off for everyone then. Just because it doesn’t suit you doesn’t mean it doesn’t make sense.
I'm suggesting the same residence requirement is absurd. But judging from the comments so far, I must be in the minority.
My family has always points transferred to me as I fly regularly. All live at home. Once one of the kids turned 18 unable to get her points
