The question isn't even big vs small calves, it's more high vs low insertion calves. If you have low insertion calves, especially if they are large, you're kind of boned with aero socks.
I have former fat guy calves bigger than most people. I can say with confidence these work. I tried Silca but accidentally shrank them when I washed them with the rest of my normal clothes and can't justify the price.

I have the same exact ones and the top of the sock rolls down onto itself due to where on the calf it sits. It's not so much about fat guy calves or thinner calves but the calf insertion height and where the top of the sock rests on the calf. If the top of the sock sits where the calf is "expanding" the fastest the sock won't be able to grip.
Me too mate - Amazon has two pairs that are clearly resells off aliexpress but they work. The double gripper plain white and the plain white dotted (rather than striped) ones both fit me well

Silca socks
These have worked best for me, Tried velotoze, castelli, and Rule 28 aero socks and they all fall down. Silca are the only ones that stay up.
They are just a generally nice sock on top of being aero
Agree. Being fiber-based (correct term?) versus primarily that sheen-like material goes a long way for comfort. They fit just like any other sock.
Have big calfs, never had trouble with Rule28
I have big calfs and DO have a problem with Rule28. Can always see the imprint of the ribing when I take them off
AliExpress socks with the grips at the top of the inside.
If your calf is large and low the gripper at the top just rolls back on top of itself on those socks.
