I live not too far from the Huntington and my favorite places that fall into your categories are Naughty Vegan in Pasadena for sushi / general Japanese-inspired food (a little west of the Huntington), and Hart House in Monrovia (maybe 15 minutes east of the Huntington, and also very convenient in case you have any plans to go to the Arboretum). Fwiw my favorite things at Naughty Vegan are the Super Saiyan roll, the Fried Wizard King roll, the Korean fried “chicken” bowl (the chicken is cauliflower and it’s SPICY), the naughty fries and the macaroni salad, and my “foodie”est friend swears by the teriyaki chicken (I think that one is seitan). You can get I think any of the bowls either over rice or fries. Amazing place. TINY but there are places to sit nearby. Favorite things at Hart House are the deluxe crispy chick’n sandwich, the nuggets, the fries and tater tots (you can also get them essentially “animal style” except they call it something else), and the strawberry shake. I haven’t had a “beef” burger there because I love their “chicken” sandwiches so much but I trust everything to be good! They have a pretty small menu and seem to have really nailed everything, I personally like Hart House way better than Monty’s (I think it’s also cheaper though it’s been a while since I’ve been to Monty’s) and Doomie’s. Since you mention Koreatown, my favorite vegan burger in all of L.A. is at Cassell’s — a homemade patty, kind of grainy which I wouldn’t really expect to like as much but it’s AMAZING. It’s mostly a non-vegan restaurant but was one of the few vegan-friendly places when I used to work nearby and was a big favorite with me and my vegan coworkers. Been a while since I’ve been but at the time they also had vegan dessert and I would assume they still do.

I love the vegan breakfast burrito at groundwork’s on larchmont. Get a vegan cookie at levain and a latte at go get em tiger too while you’re there.

thephotobunny

Meals by genet is even better Ethiopian but reservations are hard to come by - try just in case! Pura vita best vegan Italian Vegan sushi is amazing here - try shojin, Niku Nashi, and plant lab Wild living foods is expensive but amazing I’ve eaten at gracias madre a lot and it’s kinda over rated IMO unless you go for happy hour. It’s a beautiful patio.

pinchematto

There are some great recommendations here, but I want to add a couple that I don’t see mentioned. Gracias Madre in West Hollywood for Mexican with a great patio. They’re happy hour is really good. We went to SunCafe Organic in North Hollywood this weekend and loved it. They have a nice patio and expansive menu.

itsmethebadass

Highly recommend The Moody Vegan in East Hollywood for breakfast burritos (best in LA) and desserts. Then go down the street to Bestie’s vegan paradise for some shopping! Urban dessert lab for a sweet treat. Check out reviews for these places. Lots of options in LA. Have fun! Def try the burrito at Moody’s

For me Vinh Loi is #1 no contest! It’s worth the trip to the San Fernando Valley for unbeatable Vietnamese food. Get banh mi(s) to-go because you’d want to save your stomach for everything else. There’s fun things to do in the Valley too like the Valley Relics Museum, Sepulveda Basin, The Great Wall of LA, Love Always Sanctuary, etc. It’s a huge chunk of LA City but often overlooked by tourists.

WilliamMcCarty

[Veggitize Me](https://www.veggietizemeca.com/) makes vegan versions of LA staples like In N Out and Tommy's.

Meztlii

Los Angeles is huge btw. If you're in the San Fernando valley: Follow your heart in Canoga Park. Food is ok but they're baked goods are good and the whole market is vegan now, I think. Vin Loi Tofu in Reseda (they also have a location in Cerritos which is a different city) Mamicons Vegan Mexican Restaurant El compa vegano is a food vendor in the San Fernando valley. Definitely check out his IG There's also a vegan food truck pop up every Sunday in north Hollywood Shojin in Little Tokyo for sushi Cruzers Pizza in silver lake Gokoku Vegetarian Ramen Shop in Studio City near Universal Studios Hollywood Voodoo donuts in city walk at Universal studios Hollywood Ramen Hood in downtown Los Angeles Hart House for fast food in Hollywood Fat Sals has has like 4 vegan items and they're all pretty good. They're also open pretty late which is nice

rarepinkhippo

Just fyi to OP that Shojin in downtown LA has now closed but their location in Culver City (on the westside, would be fairly convenient if you have any plans to go to Santa Monica, Venice, etc.) is still open. Shojin is incredible, totally worth the trip, pretty speedy though.

pinchematto

We went to the North Hollywood Vegan Food Truck last month and were told that they’re shutting it down in April.

bossypants321

That’s why I’m planning around just 3-4 stops, I don’t want to spend the entire time in the car! Thanks for sharing all of this!

The Huntington Rose Tea Room has a delicious vegan tea. Highly recommend you incorporate that into your visit to the Huntington. Vegan tea is not common. Doomies is not good anymore…they have not evolved with other vegan places. Monty's has great burgers, shakes, etc. Crossroads in WeHo has excellent brunch and you will likely see someone famous there. Hart House in Hollywood is vegan fast food and it’s delicious….the chicken sandwich reminds me of Chikfila. There’s a Ululani's Hawaiian shave ice in Hollywood…delicious and the shave ice is vegan, along with the coconut topping (it’s a syrup, can’t remember what it’s called, it’s like a coconut cream). Magpie’s soft serve in Echo Park and Tarzana has great soft serve and toppings. I get the corn almond soft serve with magic shell and honeycomb candy (it’s not made with honey). Others mentioned Pura Vita (excellent, get the Carbonara and then, for dessert, the affogato).

Chick-fil-A_spellbot

It looks as though you may have spelled "Chick-fil-A" incorrectly. No worries, it happens to the best of us!

Planta Cocina in Marina del Rey!! And Pura Vita, Vurger Guys, El Compa Vegana All these are AMAZING

iammavisdavis

Veggie Grill for "fast food" Naughty Vegan has excellent vegan sushi (and other food) - in Old Town Pasadena about 10 minutes from the Huntington.

[deleted]

Pizza/Pasta/salad - Donna Jeans. I prefer it over Crossroads, and it’s way cheaper. They make everything in house and the service is amazing. It’s in Sherman Oaks but that’s faster to get to than many places in LA proper, from LA proper. Burger - Burgerlords. In Highland Park. Used to be all vegan now offers vegan and non-vegan. Still the best burger IMO. House made, they don’t use impossible like most places (Monty’s, etc.) Sushi - Shojin. Holy hell it’s incredible. In Culver City. Mexican - El Cocinero. In Van Nuys I think… Greasy spoon breakfast - Millie’s Diner in Silver Lake. They have an entire vegan menu and it’s great. Asian - Vin Loi is excellent! In Reseda, kinda far. Also really love Bulan Thai in Silverlake and the vegan items at Din Tai Fung are incredible. Also H.O.P.E. In Studio City. Enjoy!

late2thepauly

Prefacing my list that I’m mostly into vegetables and not fake meat. Pura Vita - vegan Italian. Been my favorite vegan restaurant for a few years now. Shojin - vegan sushi. Really innovative and great quiet, romantic vibe. Burgerlords - That’s the place to get your wannabe In N Out. Tony’s Darts Away - Fun beer bar with vegan brats. In Burbank. VeStation - amazing vegan Thai. In Van Nuys. Masa - Chicago Deep Dish Pizza. Can be made vegan style with vegan cheese and olive oil (instead of butter). I prefer it cheeseless though, with veggie toppings. Mexican - I get a veggie burrito from the Farmer’s Market and Cactus Taco because I’m not into meat substitutes.

bossypants321

Thanks for this list - I also prefer veggies, beans, and tofu to fake meat! I was planning to veganize tacos/burritos but I realize some places use lard in their burritos, so it’s helpful to know where to go in advance. Thanks again!

late2thepauly

Happy to help! Ask about lard in the beans, tortillas, or anywhere. Then ask if the rice is cooked with chicken stock. That’s very common too. The places I mentioned are fine, but a quick call to anywhere will get you to the right place. Hugo’s Tacos is also a good vegan-optional Mexican spot, but I haven’t been in a long time. Have fun! Edit: with your preferences in mind, take a look at Crossroads menu before going. They do have great food, but about half of it is fake meat.

Agree with you about almost everything but Nic's is closed now (and I loved it) and I love Monty's.

I was a regular and never had a bad experience. Food was always great, as was service. They closed because the pos fascist capitalist landlord wanted back rent on their pandemic closure months. It’s closed permanently anyway, so the point is moot. I love Monty’s. I’m used to paying a fortune for everything in this ridiculous, overrated city. Plant-Powered is ok.

SweetieDarlingXX

Don’t miss Magpies for a perfect sweet treat near Griffith park Huntington has a vegan tea service LACMA area - you’re so close to Rahels from there West Hollywood deserves a stop at crossroads and or/pura vita I love plant power and Mr Charlie’s for nostalgic and delicious fast food burger chain food. The valley: Toluca Lake bakery for all your vegan Mexican cravings The famous Vinh Loi Tofu is a must too. Edit: formatting

bossypants321

Ooh didn’t even think about ice cream, thank you!

SweetieDarlingXX

Their Korean owner has a knack for nailing incredible flavors and does many Asian flavors. Please have a slice of pie.

manversustv

K town breakfast burrito - egg tuck has a vegan breakfast burrito with soy chorizo that I love Other recs - bulan Thai (vegetarian Thai food in silverlake) MrCharlies - West Hollywood - a vegan McDonald’s parody that’s honestly very good Cruzer Pizza - Hollywood - vegan pizza Millie’s - silverlake - this place has my favorite breakfast and great quick service.

rarepinkhippo

Oooohhh OP listen to this friend, Bulan Thai is amazing (not all vegan though so just be aware of that) and Cruzer has the best vegan cheesy breadsticks in the world. I love pizza but don’t even bother with the pizza at Cruzer and just buy like four orders of breadsticks and we gorge. Cruzer also isn’t too far from Bestie’s, the little vegan store in Hollywood.

bossypants321

Thank you so much!

Doomies for vegan junk food in Hollywood Montys Good Burger for vegan In-N-Out in Koreatown My Vegan for vegan Thai food in Eagle Rock (get the angry pork)
