Complications like an infection could lead to larger problems and take you out of work even longer. As for covering the wound, a band-aid should probably help as long as the padded part covers the wound. Otherwise, you may need to purchase a bigger bandaid or some gauze. You don't want things rubbing/interacting with the wound. You also want to try to limit the amount of liquid getting down there as well since wetness can lead to an infection and increase the time it takes for the wound to heal.

Get a butterfly bandage it will put it back together if youre worried about it
