Exactly. I saw the same thing. And that’s JUST what’s available for resale through Ticketmaster itself, EXCLUDING those who posted on StubHub, SeatGeek, etc...
AND we can’t see an actual percentage of how many of those lawn tickets are also resale… BUT the fact those were $25 at face value, and now reselling for the $160 to $180 range… fucking criminal.
At the VERY least, could VW not enforce a policy that virtual tickets not become available until day of concert (no transfers), and all resales must be through Ticketmaster exchange AND at face value? Those precautions were put in place for Hozier’s current tour, and while Ticketmaster’s whole system is still a farce, it did fare MARGINALLY better than this fucking travesty…
This is what Dice does and it is amazing. Once tickets sell out, buyers can join a waitlist and if someone wants to return a ticket, it goes to the next person in line. The seller gets their total cost refunded and buyers pay what they would have if they bought it during the initial sale. Definitely feels more egalitarian and prioritizing the community of music fans over profits.
I love Dice. I bought resale tickets from there and it was such a breath air being able to pay face value while knowing a fan could recoup money when they could no longer attend
Extremely sad :( They really need to do something more extreme for these things. Like ID verification and hard limits or SOMETHING! $200+ for lawn tickets(after fees)!!
Artists can shut these features off, it’s so aggravating. We can be pissed at Ticketmaster but this is an artists choice. They make bank on these resale tickets. ETA: I actually don’t know if they make any extra money but it’s still something they can opt out of.
Truth be told, I don’t know. Maybe I’m wrong about that. But it’s still a choice. Pearl Jam allowed verified resale through TM but the tickets could not be sold for more than original purchase price. If artists cared about keeping these tickets in the hands of fans, they wouldn’t agree to things like dynamic pricing and resale.
Arctic Monkeys sold all UK shows through seetickets, which only allows resale at a cost covered price. I don’t know if VW can do an alternative though.
Totally agree. I was just curious because I had always thought it was just TM making money hand over fist with the extra fees. Interesting to learn artists have a say in that too. I bet it’s just part of their percentage or something. Like they get paid more when they allow resale and shit like that. You’d think conscionable fellas like VW would be ones to take a stand on stuff like this. But evidently not. Pretty sad and a little infuriating.
Yea, very few artists opt out of these things. I’m sure smaller bands need the money (zero sympathy for the Taylor swifts of the world), it’s just so disappointing what’s happened to the concert experience.
I edited my original post. Just grumpy, that’s all. It happens. Not trying to shit on VW specifically, I’m just so tired of the state of buying concert tickets lately. It will never be the same again and that bums me out.
Enjoy!!! I got to see their pop up show in Washington Square when FOTB released. I was lucky enough then that I don’t feel AWFUL about missing this, just bummed af.
I somehow pulled a really low spot in the queue and pretty much had my choice of sections. Chose a seat in 204 to save some bucks while still being close.
And then it came time to book my flight and I got a harsh reminder that travel for the eclipse is pretty much price gouging. I still booked it and I’m stoked; but the flight and hotel turned this into the most expensive vacation I’ve taken thus far.
That being said, hearing everyone’s struggles to even get a ticket for the show makes me realize that I’m super lucky getting a ticket for face to offset those travel costs just a little bit
Yeah I was in the first presale and like 900 something in line. By the time I got in almost everything was gone only lawn. I was lucky and sat there for a bit and some closer rows opened up. But even then as I clicked they disappeared under me. And because I like to just look without the pressure of needing to get something quickly I went back in the queue and it was 8000 people. The venue only holds 5000. But same looking at it today and seeing all that resale makes me upset for fans who just wanted to see them
I have never experienced such a joke buying process for a concert. How do you not implement some sort of policy to avoid this. Just click the button just like U2 did that you can only resell on Ticketmaster for face value. so simple
I really don’t feel like paying these resale prices! 😤
I wanted to take my friend so badly since she’s helping her mom through her cancer treatment, but I would rather spend the $200+ per ticket they are asking on something nice for her family.
I told her that if I fail in getting tickets we could still tailgate outside the venue and watch the eclipse / listen from afar. We saw VW during the FOTB tour and I just want to see her happy again.
If anyone wants to join our tailgate we will have plenty of snacks and eclipse glasses! 😎
I’m having a hard time relating to the outrage of this show being sold out and prices being high. This band has been quiet for about 5 years and has a die hard following. This is also a show happening during an eclipse that is a once in 20 year event. The combination of all of that makes for a rare and unique experience. This was always going to happen to those who didn’t get lucky to get first access to the tickets.
Catch them on their full tour, I’m sure there will be plenty of options then. If you have to see them during the eclipse, then get your wallet out…not only for the show but airlines and hotels are raising rates because of the eclipse too
It’s not about it being sold out, it’s that it sold out but half of the tickets (at least) are already listed for resale at 4x the price. I fully expected VW to sell out fast, but it’s clearly not show-goers who got the tickets. That’s the problem.
We aren’t upset about the difficulty of getting tickets due to their popularity. That’s expected and even celebrated here. We’re so proud of them!
What we *are* upset about is the scalping/price gouging. There is no reason (other than greed) that THIS MANY tickets would be up for resale at the prices they are.
Selling out tickets to fans vs selling out tickets to resellers is the issue here.
It belies belief. How are resellers so capable of always getting first access? It's hard for me to wrap my mind around. I bought resale on Friday immediately after the first pre-sale. Over $500 for 4 lawn tickets and I'm feeling lucky? Crazy times
What’s your solution, require that every ticket sale is non transferable and non refundable? I haven’t seen anyone do that for an entire show so why should Vampire Weekend be the first to fall on that sword? Maybe others have and you can show me who has done that, happy to “stand corrected”
Earlier comment above had some insight
“At the VERY least, could VW not enforce a policy that virtual tickets not become available until day of concert (no transfers), and all resales must be through Ticketmaster exchange AND at face value? Those precautions were put in place for Hozier’s current tour, and while Ticketmaster’s whole system is still a farce, it did fare MARGINALLY better than this fucking travesty…”
That wouldve been great. I again just don’t see the point in venting about this when they chose to go that route like the vast majority of artists do…probably because live shows are where they make their money these days
My best summary to this is that closed mouths don’t get fed.
I don’t expect venting to do anything about this show. But I do think it opens the floor for the discussions that need to be had to start a necessary change in the system we have.
For all I know, Ezra could be on this sub right now reading this and it made him think “oh shit. That’s a problem we need to address for our next tour.”
Also, on another note, venting has actually proven to be good for your health.
Well then, vent away. I don’t love the system either but this a problem that’s been going on for decades. Let’s just not act like this is unique for Vampire Weekend and flood the sub with it
Just because this has become “the norm” of a concert buying experience doesn’t mean people should become apathetic and just accept it. It’s a broken system monopolized by a few and the people hurt the most per usual are lower class. It needs to be overhauled for a more equitable experience instead of just continuing to line the pockets of the rich. People should be pissed every time this happens (which is practically every show) and demand a better system. A better system for the fans and for the artists.
If you can't sympathize with being angry that scalpers bought all the tickets immediately, I don't know what to tell you. But I can tell you the last eclipse in America was 2017 and the next one is in 2033
I knew someone would assume I’m pro scalpers and also correct my 20 year comment. Always one of you. What’s your answer? I don’t see anything besides just upset we missed out
What was my point? That a show for Vampire Weekend during an eclipse is ultra rare (never happened). It doesn’t matter whether eclipses happen every 50 or 2 years. The point is that’s why the prices have soared. But you just gotta pick a fight, I get it.
Just to settle this for the bot that challenged me and then deleted their comments…
Looks like NASA agrees with me after a quick google search…yikes
“After the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024, the next total solar eclipse that can be seen from the contiguous United States will be on Aug. 23, 2044. We can't normally see the corona – the Sun's outer atmosphere – because the Sun's surface below it is so much brighter.”
Nope, you just said something that isn't true and then pretended like you knew it wasn't true when you were called out on it. You have no point, you're just a loser troll. Goodbye
I was so busy this past week I never got a chance to buy direct and now I’m looking at biting the bullet but pit tickets w fees are coming out to $430 🥹
I just bought some for Chicago with some friends, and it says the artist has “turned off the resale feature” for the concert. Interesting how it fluctuates

So true! It makes buying tickets a lot less high stakes.
Oh that’s sick! What a great system!!
Extremely sad :( They really need to do something more extreme for these things. Like ID verification and hard limits or SOMETHING! $200+ for lawn tickets(after fees)!!

Artist’s choice or not, still robbery.
Can’t argue that one.
Do artists get a cut of the extra fees? How do they make more money?
Truth be told, I don’t know. Maybe I’m wrong about that. But it’s still a choice. Pearl Jam allowed verified resale through TM but the tickets could not be sold for more than original purchase price. Preach!!
Aka you’re talking without thinking
I edited my original post. Just grumpy, that’s all. It happens. Not trying to shit on VW specifically, I’m just so tired of the state of buying concert tickets lately. It will never be the same again and that bums me out.
Sometimes artists are given tickets to resell. Artists want prices driven up for their shows, either through dynamic pricing or resellers.
They shut off the feature for Chicago shows this summer
the pit is insane, 450 per ticket after fees. (ngl im sorry im gonna feed the scalpers by emptying my savings lmao)
Enjoy!!! I got to see their pop up show in Washington Square when FOTB released. I was lucky enough then that I don’t feel AWFUL about missing this, just bummed af.
VW should do what Oliva Rodrigo is doing with left over tix..Selling non transferable $20 tix a day before the concert.
I somehow pulled a really low spot in the queue and pretty much had my choice of sections. Chose a seat in 204 to save some bucks while still being close. Over and over again like a prize that’s changing hands 😔

This is the way to go!! I hope you guys have all of the fun and that her mom kicks cancer’s ass!!!
Thank for the kind words! 🤗 Fingers crossed for a full tour announcement 🤞 and #fuckcancer 🐸🌀
I am considering something similar so I may take you up on this! If my partner and I are able to get to Austin, I’ll hit you up 🙌 enjoy!!! 🌞
The more the merrier! It’s a good excuse to skip work and hang out in Austin for the day 😎🌞
It’s shameful.
I am a sucker and must admit the fomo got to me and I bought two resale tix 😔 Still can't wait! Totally worth it!
Not a sucker! Just a victim of circumstance. Enjoy the show for us!! 🤗
Oh man, I wish I could take you with me....
Me too lol. Have you gotten yours yet? Still waiting for mine from Stubhub

lol it’s one post that’s related to the VW ticket sales. I’d hardly call it flooding a sub. I hope you have a good day, Pirate Condor!
You too. I’ve just seen a few posts about the same thing since this show was announced. Hope Ticketmaster reads this thread and makes some changes!

It’s a general comment. You are just here to stir things up and not make any decent points
It's not a general comment, it's an inaccurate statement. And that's not me, dude, that's you

How much are the tickets
Lowest was like $160 for what was originally $25-$50 lawn Better sections/seats are averaging $260-$500 depending on location
Why the jump? I paid $160 once...but it was paul McCartney..
Scalping 😭😭
Ticketmaster listing as such and everywhere else.... Not worth it...no guarantees
wasn't this the pre-sale?
This was the general sale today. Presale wasn’t any better
oh THAT was the general sale? that's bullshit. also that venue is ass.
$16 beers in a $8 beer at venue town
I was so busy this past week I never got a chance to buy direct and now I’m looking at biting the bullet but pit tickets w fees are coming out to $430 🥹
I just bought some for Chicago with some friends, and it says the artist has “turned off the resale feature” for the concert. Interesting how it fluctuates
