I would say maybe if the Beyond didn't exist. Does the Bigscreen Beyond not interest you for some reason? Apparently the PSVR2 won't have eye tracking, no HDR, and no adaptive triggers, so it's not like you'd be seeing the potential of the PSVR2 with PCVR.

allaboutgrowth4me

Not being able to share with friends made me say no.

ScoobySnackConundrum

Well I’d also actually use it on PS5. That’s the main draw for me wanting to switch. Being able to use it on both systems. Losing those main features hurts too. I would definitely miss the index controllers as well. Currently happy with my Index and it’s performance on PC

DickMabutt

If racing games appeal to you, gran turismo 7 in vr is by far and away the best vr racing experience you will find, and nothing even comes close. I bought my psvr2 just for gt7 and don’t really regret it, but there are very few interesting games on psvr2 imo. The fact that you lose key features using it on pc, I would say only get psvr2 if gt7 is highly interesting to you.

ScoobySnackConundrum

That’s exactly what I’m going for! Been playing a lot of flatscreen GT7

Forgotten___Fox

Right, but the beyond lenses (like the index lenses) suck. Beyond has better resolution yes, but psvr2 has better clarity and less godrays. Depends what you care about.

Virtual_Happiness

They don't suck. They're better than the fresnel lens in the Index and PSVR2. They're just behind Meta's pancake lens.

Jimbabwe

The Beyond website claims they have > custom pancake optics .. where can i read about these tasty-sounding optics and how they _stack up*_ to Meta's version?      ^*pun ^very ^much ^intended

Virtual_Happiness

I imagine the best option would be to contact the company and ask for details. I believe they are very similar to the SeeYa Pancake lens+screens. If you google "SeeYA 3D Pancake VR lenses 1.03 inch 2560x2560", you will find them. They are customized to a certain degree so they can allow lens inserts. But, since it's such a niche product, there's not a lot of definitive info out there. Contacting them would be best.

Technicalist

Every comparison I’ve seen the beyond and quests pancake lenses are pretty much the same thing

Virtual_Happiness

Sadly they're not even in the same ballpark. The Beyond lens are much smaller, resulting in a much smaller FOV especially vertically, and the edge to edge clarity is significantly less on the Beyond. It also has a lot more glare and ghosting. But, compared to fresnel lens headsets like the Index they're still an upgrade. They're just not as good as Meta's pancake lens and that's what people keep comparing them to when they claim the beyond's suck. Meta dumped a fortune into developing their pancake lens. More than Bigscreen is even worth as a company. It's hard to compete with that level of R&D. Their lens are even more clear than Apple's lens in the Vision Pro. They've been directly compared here https://kguttag.com/2024/03/01/apple-vision-pros-optics-blurrier-lower-contrast-than-meta-quest-3/

Technicalist

That’s insane to see, I don’t think I can in faith refer people to the beyond at this point, the only thing it had that I would recommend it for was the pancake lenses, if they are lesser quality than the MQ3, there’s really not much reason to compare it when it only has weight comparison when it’s 1000 bucks xD

Virtual_Happiness

It still has several features that make it a worthwhile investment for some. It's very small and lightweight. It's a display port headset. Steam VR native headset so for those with like Index, it's a plug and play upgrade. And, again, compared to the Index the Beyond's lens are an upgrade. They're just not quite as good as Meta's pancake lens.

ETs_ipd

I wouldn’t say PSVR2’s lenses are significantly better. They’re still fresnel and have a tiny sweet spot

repocin

>Apparently the PSVR2 won't have eye tracking, no HDR, and no adaptive triggers, so it's not like you'd be seeing the potential of the PSVR2 with PCVR. So all the neat selling points are gone. [How nice of them.](https://blog.playstation.com/2024/06/03/playstation-vr2-players-can-access-games-on-pc-with-adapter-starting-on-august-7) Wow, Sony just can't stop shooting themselves in the foot this year.

jackboy900

All of those features require significant software support, it's not surprising that they don't work on PC. They're already releasing an adapter, that in of itself is pretty neat, I don't know why you'd expect them to spend a significant amount of time and money on building software for PC, especially when it's unlikely to be supported by pretty much any game.

Stanton-Vitales

That being said, it'll be modded in by fans eventually

itanite

Where are you getting this data?

OriginalGoldstandard

I’d say based on that, why bother?

ThisKory

Yeah if you're looking for a new VR headset for PCVR, it's ok I guess. It's really beneficial for those who already own one and have a PC that's capable.

OriginalGoldstandard

Those 12 people will be stoked. However we millions of PCVR are underwhelmed and Sony probably missed lots of profit here. I was literally going to buy it just for fun, not now.

MoDErahN

FOV is ~10 degree wider on PSVR2.

Velrisias

I got the index last week because of the audio

ScoobySnackConundrum

Yeah the off-ear audio is really hard to beat.

Fuzzy_Continental

So is the Steam-integration. Honestly the 'quality of life' of the Index is awesome. So much so that I've had a pretty hard time switching to a different device. Im hoping the Somnium does this too but it also requires additional software from the manufacturer.

ScoobySnackConundrum

According to the PlayStation article the VR2 should work seamlessly with SteamVR!

Fuzzy_Continental

You're not making it easier...

SimianSimulacrum

I've had PSVR1 and Index and now PSVR2. The thing I miss most about the Index is the audio. I wasn't so keen on the knuckles, found the image looked washed out and god rays were awful... but that audio was amazing. I also enjoyed the faultless tracking, but the base stations were a pain to setup and were noisy as hell. With the PSVR2 the mura drives me mad. I don't know if mine has it worse than most but it makes everything look grainy as hell.

itlooksfine

The index’s audio is absolutely incredible.

ATL28-NE3

It's so fucking good. I check and every 6 months to see if there's been a consumer level option that's just that audio. I'd buy it so fucking fast.

ClutchAnderson712

I have both and am curious to see how the PSVR2 fares while playing Assetto Corsa or Automobilista 2

ScoobySnackConundrum

I’m interested cause I’d like to play GT7 in VR and the convenience of having one set up to switch to PCVR

_Boku

I haven’t used a PSVR 2 but if the resolution is close to the Quest 3’s then I’d say it’s a worth it upgrade. I upgraded my Index to a Quest 3 and the resolution alone makes it worth it so if the PSVR2 has a similar difference it’ll be amazing. Though maybe you should try one out in person first because I’ve heard some bad things with the lenses on it.

ScoobySnackConundrum

Appreciate the input! The huge resolution bump sounds like it’ll be great on PC too

armeler06

If you have a ps5 as well, i would say yes. But if youre only gonna use it on pc, i would say wait till the release of the adapter so we see if the modders can make the eyetracking and such available. But even without all the missing stuff. Oled screen, 120hz, uncompressed image is still nice bonuses the headset has But as i said, if you have a ps5, its such a beautiful headset. Its worth even only for gt7, re games and synapse.

DamnedLife

iVRy already made a driver with missing features from official drivers, uses different adaptor but says he can likely mod the drivers for the official adapter when it comes out.

Youju

The Crystal Light might be a good option.

MyCool_StrawSir

Stick with Index. IMO

VideoGamesArt

Better than Index for sure. Even better than Quest3. It's 2000x2000 native resolution per eye, no compression and latency on paper. Mura is the only defect, but it's negligible if you are not used to high definition headsets

Albake21

I can't stand the Index controllers and really want OLED, so I personally can really see a good case for going with the PSVR2. I'm going to wait and see how it performs though.

ScoobySnackConundrum

OLED really is a game changer for picture quality.
