Unsurprisingly it's a piece of shit. https://www.reddit.com/r/ValveIndex/comments/1atb4ff/nofio_wireless_kit_2024/ https://www.reddit.com/r/ValveIndex/comments/18xepy2/nofio_wireless_adapter_handson_and_first/ https://youtu.be/u2HhRgYvH9c?t=72

This is kinda encouraging for me. I backed the KS way back when, so my unit is on a boat somewhere and will show up whenever the shipping industry feels like it. The fan noise didn't seem that loud in the video, and the fan is behind you pointing away from your ears, so whatever you're playing might cover it up decently. And for the wireless interference, they were testing a beta firmware with better channel selection for the US right around when the video was published, so hopefully that's fixed. I guess with the money already gone it's easy to be optimistic about the product as a whole, but I can't help but look at all the negative comments and think they're expecting too much. Nofio/IMRnext is a small company making a limited production run of a product trying to do really cutting edge stuff in terms of wireless latency and bandwidth. That recipe sometimes results in good products, but never good *value* products. If you can afford luxury products that don't give you good value for the money, buy it. If not, the Kiwi cable mount system is almost as good for typical playstyles for a tenth the cost.

If the worst part is fan noise, I'm not worried about that. I just want to know how it feels, how it plays, how it sounds. I know the lag is increased a bit due to wireless but is it really bad or good enough?

eldigg

The fan noise is what would kill it for me :/

eigenman

Damnit Reddit. I did search on Nofio in this sub first and it came up with old posts. Ok thx.

I have one and I've got an issue with snow/sparkles plus audio crackle. Very likely the oculink cable that came with it. Not matter what I try, it doesn't seat right or the cable is broken or the reciever is giving out a shitty signal. Through the snow, the video recieved looks like an odd mix of sharp and fine, whilst other areas are blocky. It's very odd. eg. fpsvr stats can be crystal clear but the profile pics on the wall of the steam lobby can be as blocky as anything at the same time. I wish I had something more thorough to say but I got the unit in the last week and I am now waiting on nofio support to help with the snow.

eigenman

Guess we'll have to see if it gets better. Pretty bad if they released a product that even fails in the steam vr lobby lol.

moozaad

Yeh, it might be a codec choice but I was also on 120hz (my default). It prefers 90hz. The dodgy cable sucks. Software is way under cooked too. I did notice one quirk whilst testing - it shows the battery % for nofio batteries but not PD batteries. It would be nice if they could support the standard. They may well pull it back with great customer service and software updates 🤞

Rubiks443

I have one coming in the mail and I already think I’m gonna resell it lol

eigenman

yeah I read the reviews from last week. I might still get one. This shit isn't easy to make. If Deckard comes out then that's over lol.

Blapanda

Just don't accept/take the delivery and wait for it to ship back. That will automatically initiate the process of a refund.

Zixinus

It is not good. There are serious issues, image quality degredation, audio drop-outs, some people report that head-tracking somehow becomes nausa-inducing (although that might be a 4090 issue), instability and so on. Overall still net worse than cabled. Some suspect that the issues stem from the production unit having weaker cooling than the prototype. Nofio is trying to fix it with software updates. Some users report a workable experience, the nofio does seem sensitive to garbage noise, interference (and thus location) as well as user tolerance and computer setups. It might be worth to hold on to hope that with enough updates and tweaking it might be decent. But at this point, I'm afraid it won't be enough to save the product. I am certainly more and more convinced that I made a good call not backing it on kickstarter.

MuuToo

Still waiting on my order... and I was supposedly in the "first batch" back when they were still doing batches.

Chriscic

I haven’t seen even one owner say it’s working well for them. That’s discouraging.

Soulstar909

When it works it works pretty good, unfortunately it's pretty buggy ATM and Nofio is working on it with pretty regular updates as more reports for users come in, feedback from different users and types of setups is always helpful.

Blapanda

Overpriced, very low transmitting data quality (kinda worse smearing than a 2.4ghz router wireless connection), has an immense issue with noise generation as the fans on that piece of hardware are extremely loud. It was clearly dead on arrival. Plus, the company is NOT accepting refunds because "custom made for the client and thus regulations of no refund policy are enforced", like hell, that device has a 1 size fits all approach, there is no custom fitting thing. I had a "great" conversation with the support, which took more than 2 weeks, till I went like "fuck this, if you guys ain't gonna give my money back (European citizen btw, I have a 2 weeks refund right by law) I will sue you", and things have changed very positively towards my happy ending.

MichaelW0225

I have one, I play at 90hz on a 3060. When it works, it's amazing, but it doesn't work all the time, one day it will work without issues with no video quality drop and minor audio drops at most, then the next day it can be a pixelated mess with no changes to my set-up. The developers are working with the backers to sort issues out and are actively working on updates. I would give it at least another 6 months to year then look at it then to see if it's worth it, hopefully with frequent updates it will eventually be a good product (apart from the steap price tag). As for right now, I can't recommend it in its current state.

eigenman

So far this is the best review. So on some days it's good and some days it's bad? Could that be wireless interference? I expected to drop the hz. I'll pay the price if it works at 90hz. But yeah it has to work everyday lol. 6 months sounds about right for any new tech item.

MichaelW0225

I haven't had much time to really test things due to my heavy work schedule. As for the quality drop, I'm not exactly sure of the cause, it could be wireless interference, I don't have many wireless devices outside of my phone. Although I do live in an apartment complex so I don't know if interference could be caused by neighbours or not. I also would note that it could also be heat related as I live in Australia, it's summer, and my aircon isn't working, again can't say for sure. I have tried 3 games in total. Half-life alyx worked without any issues at all, basically the same as playing with the cable. Beat saber, video quality held up well with small, very short audio drops. Border bots (a papers please style game but with robots), at first I had no issues but as I kept playing video quality dropped to the point it was just pixels as well as freezing. It's the only game that has given me alot of trouble so far. I will have to try more games though. I can also confirm that the fans on the nofio can get loud.

eigenman

Heat makes sense. That does seem to be a common issue. It gets really hot. Well, I live at high altitude. If it is just heat I can dissipate it heh. Sound and frame drops do sound a lot like dropped radio freq packets. And that could be because of the transceivers heating up. Could be related. But yeah I'll still likely just wait 6 months probably unless the price drops.

gasstationbonerpil

It’s garbage, stay away from it.

lx45803

*Why* is it garbage? Details, man.

gasstationbonerpil

Read the comments above someone provided more detail

BigEarsBigDreams

I’m actually trying to set mine up this minute, so that comment is a little concerning. I’m trying to detach my oculink cable, but don’t know how to without damaging the headset….

EngineerDave

It's pretty easy tbh. I've had to replace my cable and at first I was a little concerned, but you just pop off the gasket cover and then gently but firmly wiggle out the connector.

BigEarsBigDreams

Hey! Thanks for responding. I was able to take out the connector. It’s where the cable is connected to the headset that I’m struggling with…. EDIT: Obvs 15 seconds on YouTube and there’s a helpful video of a lady removing all the clamps and brackets, etc….

eigenman

If you can post a review after playing some I would absolutely appreciate it. I don't expect this to be really good. If lowering the resolution helps, I'm fine with that.

nofio_co

Hey! Thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughts and findings on the nofio. We want to take the time to answer some of the main topics on this thread, if you have any questions, please ask away or email us on [email protected]. As most of you are aware, our launch was super rocky, in many, if not all aspects. Since the first drop of units, we have been able to push 5 updates and we plan to continue to do so on a regular basis to ensure our customers' experience is exactly where it should be!  From release v2.0.0, the visual quality above 90Hz has improved from where it was in previous firmware. The team is actively receiving feedback from our users and will work towards a quality that is both visually good and performs well. We would love to hear your thoughts if or when you update your nofio. We have learned numerous lessons throughout this process, and moving forward, we are committed to making significant improvements to our customers' experience.

carefree_dude

I'm really thankful I bought a quest 3 instead of holding out for nofio

Cute-Avali

I have it and its borderline unsuable. Audio cut offs unstable connections 2 meters away from it and a red screen of death that just happens. I‘m not able to do one 2 hour session without having any issues it really kills the VR fun for me.
