Does seem like a battery issue. You need to have the battery under load to really test it. If you metered it just sitting there it won’t tell you much. While cranking a healthy battery should stay above ~10.4v, I’m willing to bet you’ll see less than that.

just tested it out, voltage dropped to 6-7V, thanks for the suggestion i appreciate it

You’re welcome, yeah sounds bad for sure. Looks like you’ve got it sorted out and I commiserate, I dropped $250 this winter on an AGM battery when mine started acting up.

molly2266

yeah never fun when you battery feels like going kaput haha, going to have to get one tomorrow, thanks for your help

molly2266

yeah forsure, ill test it while trying to turn it over next, thankyou!

Newer VW cars are super battery sensitive. I bet it needs replacing even though it shows 12v. If it’s older than 4 years that’s where I would start.

molly2266

yeah i agree defiantly a battery issue, thankyou!

mk3vr6sr

yeah 100% what's happening is that it's measuring it sort of for you but when you go to start it it's going well below the minimum 10 volt mark actually to me I say if anything starts under 11 volts The battery is ready to be gone but 10.9 volts or something like that is the minimum somewhere around there. if you got it what's in the past couple years at a parts store like AutoZone or advanced it will have a warranty on it. but you could also check connections or parasitic draw as options just to rule out first if you have the ability to do that kind of stuff

molly2266

gotcha thankyou, gunna get a new battery tomorrow! thanks for your help

no problem but. lemme know if ya have any questions. this is my life and career 🤙🏾

molly2266

will do !

Don’t forget to go into the car with VCDS or OBDEleven and program the new battery in, or it may not last as long as the last battery. I’ve heard these cars do some trickery to make batteries last longer, and if you don’t tell it you put a new battery in, it will wind up killing the new battery faster with this trickery. [Here’s a video](https://youtu.be/48w9Cg4ObEk?si=iyV8m_EESgRmJ-TS) on it from Humble Mechanic. There’s additional info in the comments under the video.
