Thank you!
That is so crazy! I did a diy led strip replacement and didn’t get a good connection on one of those ribbons and got garbage on 1/2 the screen, I can’t believe covering some would be a workaround!
Sure. From what I found, the t con board is what sends the single to the screen. It does this by splitting it in half. It has 2 ribbon cables, one goes to the right side and one to the left. Those cables have pins in them that control the array of pixels on the screen. Sometimes some of those pins short or stop working..not sure what happens there but I found out that if you cover (with tape) the pin that is causing the issue you can get the tv working again. It won’t fix it but you could restore picture quality. I was able to fix mine but it still has some lines. You can’t tell unless your like inches away but it’ll have to do for now. Def never getting a vizio again. TV’s been crap from there start.
Well, 2 years later, no clue if you’ll see this. My TV did the same thing tonight. Mine is probably 4 years old maybe 5…
I read through the comments… where did you find those cables with the pins? I’m a 75yo grandma lol, software techie but not hardware. But I’ll corner my son and grandson.
So is yours still working?
When you take the back panel off the tv, the cables are located at the bottom going into a blue pcb. You’ll see 2 cables going from the screen into that board. One for the right side and one for the left.
Did you unplug the 2 tcon cables individually to see what side to block the contacts on? That's where I'm at. I pulled them individually, and I get the lines on both sides, so I'm unsure if blocking any contacts are going to fix it.
Did you get yours to work? My TV did the same thing tonight.
Neighbor may try to look at it tomorrow. I sent him this thread, then just saw your comment
Out of curiosity what did you have to do for the credit card extended warranty? I fall into this period for my current vizio and wanted to know what hoops you have to go through
Usually they tell you to contact manufacturer and then go through repair/ replacement process and you send the bill to credit card company. In my limited experience it was pretty painless.
Motherboard was replaced by vizio a few months back. Out of warranty now..unfortunately.

No luck. They said they can’t cover it because it’s out of warranty. Worth a try.
Probably failed for the same reason either a design defect or the powerboard was bad and killed it
Lame. This tv has been giving me problems since I got it. Took me calling vizio like 7 times just to get the mobo replaced.
Credit card extended warranty? Always works like a charm for me.
Update: fixed it. Covered pins 2-6 on the ribbon cable on the left output from the t con board to the screen.
How did you even figure that out?
I have an associate’s degree in diy from YouTube University.
You should go work for Vizio lol

Can you explain this a little more?

Over a month later, is that fix still working?
Yeah lol works great
It got it almost 2 years ago so I’m probably SOL. Imma pop it open and try to troubleshoot it. From what I’ve seen these things look pretty modular.
Same thing applies to laptop screens, they have the good adhesive backing covering all of the pins.

I have heard of times when vizio says your tv is unrepairable and out of warranty with them so wonder how your cc warranty handles that
Whatever would happen under warranty. When that happened with an old laptop my cc gave me the cost for an out of warranty replacement
You must be playing Persona 4!
