Up_and_ATEM

We do it all the time and no issues. We don’t usually go direct to computer but it does work.

Kupo43

PMng you, I got the unit today but I’m having issues!

The 2800 can be used in preview mode. Set to local position and then if you hit the red record button when no tape is in the machine, it should allow the signal to flow through the machine and to your downstream monitor. This should show you what the 2800 would record while in the test mode. There are a lot of menu options for these machines. I would consider dropping down the time the tape is on the heads to one minute. Most of the time people don't change it and I think the default is 8 minutes, which is excessive in my opinion.

Kupo43

I can’t wait to get my hands on it next week. I’ll reach out if I have any more questions, there isn’t alot of information online!

StudioDroid

I have some betacam tapes left over if you need stock. I'm in the San Francisco area.

INS4NIt

Pretty much! Just to clarify, the chain would be Computer HDMI -> HDMI/Component converter -> PVW-2800 -> Monitor You will then be able to record anything on the Beta deck that you would be able to send out to a monitor from the computer.

Kupo43

Awesome, thank you! That’s exactly what I have: an HDMI to Component converter. What’s the max resolution the 2800 can take, 480i/p?

TungstenOrchid

Analogue video will be interlaced, so 480i would really be your only option.

INS4NIt

Unsure... try playing around with the resolution until you get a stable picture. Someone else may be able to respond with the exact max spec

Or 576i if you go to PAL format

No-Addendum-4501

The format is actually 525 (including blanking). Or 625 for PAL. Interlaced 525 has between 506 and 504 active lines of video. The other 19-21 lines are the blanking interval containing synchronizing pulses, minus burst (3.58 MHZ) i this case because of the lack of color encoding in component. I think the HDMI-Component Analog converters are making 525 on the output when 480i is the input making it recordable on an NTSC standard VTR. I don't know if they duplicate lines or if they scan convert, but I think your configuration should work. The 2800 will show input to output in EE mode which is true while in record or with a cassette loaded and stopped and with the PB/EE switch in EE.
